I watched this when it came out and I totally saw the similarities of Sylvanas transforming like she did in Mak'gora and in the BFA cinematic. I had those Illidan vibes when Alleria fought those demons. Holy crap!!! And, the lighting on Sylvanas as Alleria left her and that music...total foreshadowing of what was going to happen to Sylvanas. This was a great cinematic! Oh yeah! The burning trees...reminded me of Sylvanas burning down the tree. Blizz does an amazing job with their cinematics - the art, music and stories are always top notch! It's interesting too because the earlier cinematic we got where Xal'atath in Shadow and Fury comments on Alleria and her struggles. It is so awesome how they tie all of these in!
The difference Illidan didn't mess with the void, he used Fel which is chaos, not evil like the void is. Alleria basically is a ticking time bomb at this point, or an addict who is in the loop of "I can quit whenever I want" She can't the void is actually evil. It has never once done anything in the entire history of WoW that didn't serve it's own ends in it's attempt to consume Azeroth and all living things.
I can't think of a better way to attract new players. Easy victory for Blizzard. These are stories that people love so much they can't shut up about them 20+ years later. They need to make a show. A high quality show. Adhering strictly to source material. If they do that, it solves the problem of onboarding new players to the story. They can watch the show. So many new players would flock to WoW.
I love the uniqueness of the animation style. It's got echoes of Batman: The Animated Series. It's got echoes of Gargoyles. It's got echos of ancient Hanah-Barbera cartoons. It is definitely inspired by Japanese cartoons, but it is the unique fusion of that with the American action cartoons I grew up on that really sells it for me. I love it. I'd pay lotta dolla to own a series like this on physical media.
I feel they really did it justice for the depiction of what's narrated in the audio drama (A thousand years war), it's grittier than expected but also has good story beats - like Arator looking up at his mother's statue (a vision she saw, from another POV) which is a cool detail I feel
I think they're setting it up entirely different from Sylvanas. Alleria is falling to what others perceive to be the dark side, but her motivations are entirely different and there's plenty of reason to think that it isn't really "the dark side" at all - or at least no darker than "the light" will turn out to be, anyway. Too far in either direction leads to madness.
Looks like I just gained a new personal favorite character... and I just had a thought... Xal calls the Light brothers who have lost their way. What if the Light and the Void are like the creatures from the Dark Crystal? Something split them and they "hate" each other but need each other to be complete?
So while listening in on your Barrens chat, you mentioned that you think Xal’atath is a future version of Alleria, and I think you may have hit the nail on the head. Went back through “ a thousand years of war” and there is a line that makes me feel the 5th hidden zone and this 5th old god are the catalyst for this change. A lot of people thought it was in reference to N’zoth, but Alleria had no screen time in BFA, she was absent. Here are some lines that make me believe we are about to live it. “She saw herself kneeling before the one who slumbers beneath Azeroth's waves. She saw herself killing it and taking its place, leading a throng of horrors to consume every nation. As she swam in the shadow, all these visions seemed true... at first. Slowly, she began to see the difference between the Shadow's memories, the Shadow's plans, and the Shadow's desires.” The kraken faced old god beneath Kaz’algar, is somewhere in the rootlands . I think the rootlands has a large body of water that is apart of the ocean. So unless something crazy happens and Terralyon does kill Alleria in this time line, we will witness the rise of xal’atath. I think that perhaps our only option in saving ourselves is sending her back in time to the black empire, and that’s where she makes her bargain with N’zoth. This could also mean this is how Locust walker knew xal’atath, he taught her, he prepared her, he is her teacher. Which if this is true, means Locust walker is fulfilling his role within the void and he is not the good guy we thought him to be. Rather a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Helping dictate certain individuals fates.
Acco, some of us saying this for many years... We NEED a WoW anime!!! I love anime mostly for one major reason: Only through anime you can present anything you like, without having to pay tons of money on CGI, like with real actors and the risk of fail which will damn any more attempts... See WoW movie....
I am LEGIT DYING for a WoW anime series!!!! it would be the perfect answer for them to make a show, cuz i understand a FULL cgi series or movie would be challenging. but i bet this style isnt as difficult or costly to make. i want a WoW show. lets do it blizz please im begging you
Yo this is a great animation medium to present a game. I am not sure if it's anime it looks more like 90's anime if anything and it's perfect. That scene when she goes void mode absolute banger. That's a badass woman. Dude you would love Attack on Titan.
Now this was something what at least fits Warcraft. A good start. I don't like that they always feature female protagonists nowadays, but I liked the style and power of this trailer. It even had a little bit of the Warcraft2 feeling when they fought the trolls.
While many use a token female for female emportement brownie points alleria windrunner is a complexe and well désigner character shes well beyond à token female.
I’m a little concerned that with these cool high energy animation stories the actual in game story will feel lackluster in comparison. I don’t really want to collect pristine toenails for weeks waiting on new cinematic as the only story energy.
when the first i saw this teased on wowhead i hoped it would be a netflix show set in Warcraft universe so kind of disappointed that it's not that, but otherwise this was very nicely done
Blizzard is just blessing us with so much lately i feel like I'm stealing from them lol. This and that last cinematic with the nerubians are chefs kiss imo.
This was great! Specially after hearing the audio book A Thousand Years of War, it was cool seeing parts of it visualized 🔥. If you like Edgerunners and Arcane, you might also like Castlevania.
So I have not listened to "A Thousand Years of War" so I don‘t know if it will be explained there, but when she embraced the void, wasn‘t she with the Army of Light? On Argus? Who granted her the power?
I was wrong apparently she was on a Legion prison world and found demons killed by the Void, and was attacked and infected by some void being while she was there.
Generally, especially if you ignore shadowlands cinematics, Wow animations have been nicely polished regardless of the delivery style. I just wish they didn't spread themselves so thin. Realistic like Thrall n Anduin, or high quality stylized like the old Wrath or Mists, or this anime style? Don't care just give us a movie or series in animation form not only a short story. And don't try to supercut 4 styles together that "last time on..." was beneficial for new people to listen to but a distraction virtually.
Those runestones were the magical barrier. If they are moved out of position with some strong magic, the magical barrier collapses & the enemy has its way into Quel'Thalas. The same thing happened during the troll wars if I remember the lore correctly. So, I don't think it has a deeper meening but I can be wrong ofc.
Very cool indeed! I like when she's talking about Sylvanas's fate, how the music changes to that death theme, and the pulses showing the Banshe Queen. The Ahsoka series has something similar applied to Anakin/Darth Vader, very good.
What I want to know is, was this made in house, or out sourced? because my first thought is this looks like a Titmouse production. I love it and want more.
World of Warcraft Anime WOULD BE LIT.............LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. Start from Warcraft 1 orcs and humans make series. seasons. leading up to Wrath. It will SELL
I don't see the shame in her embracing the void in that moment. What was she supposed to do? Just let her and her husband die while serving the Light? Can anyone explain?
An animated series would be great, but despite most saying its just semantics, Arcane was not an "Anime", Edgerunners was. The style used here, has been popularized by recent series like Voltron, Legend of Korra, Vox Machina etc. While its good, and might draw inspiration from anime, its not anime. Mature style animation =/= Anime.
It is an excellent cinematic. Don't be fooled though, this 15FPS animation cannot hold up in a full TV series. It's just one of their animatics played at a faster speed -- Which is the nature of cartoons, really -- but it's not enough to match modern animation yet. They would need to draw about double the animation frames to smooth it out (Most cartoons are 24-30fps)
They made another male character appear weak and soft with tears in his eyes and that if it wasn't because of aleria he could've died in that fight. This feminism direction blizzard is taking is so annoying and boring this is 100% not the warcraft I loved
Unpopular opinion: This is just lazy. Don't get me wrong, it's miles better than the even lazier animatics but why can't we get "Old Soldier" style cinematic series? Edit: Btw, there was 0 new material in these. We knew literally everything.
"I am Alleria Windrunner, a strong independent woman who don't need no man, don't need no kid, and don't need no family, instead I'm going to use this evil corrupting power like it's a child's plaything, and there is nothing anyone can say or do to make me think I'm wrong, now sit and watch while I ruin my unique aesthetic in exchange for some 2016 emo goth attire and a karen haircut." - Alleria 2024
World of Warcraft: The Void has done nothing but tried to kill, manipulate, and consume everyone on Azeroth every time it has popped up on every planet it's ever been on. Every person to ever use it has fallen to it's corruption. Alleria: "Yeah but I'm clearly not those people, surely that won't happen to me." I swear this might be the dumbest plot ever...they are trying to make Alleria this strong female badass, but she is making the WORST logical choices imaginable.
too much female characters as main leads in War Within, this video doesn't show anything new or something that we didn't know storywise, only intruduces Allerya to the public if they dont know her.
Alleria: When there is nothing left to burn you have to set yourself on fire.
I watched this when it came out and I totally saw the similarities of Sylvanas transforming like she did in Mak'gora and in the BFA cinematic. Glad to do my part lol

Series desperatly needed.
Man, I need to see more stuff like this in this exact style!!! Just goosebumps all over. Good job Blizzard!!!!

Fingers crossed to not get Sylvanas 2.0 - falls to the dark side - missunderstood - redemption arc.
The art is top notch as always
I think they're setting it up entirely different from Sylvanas. never would have expected aleria to be this cool
She was the coolest OG hero character in 1996’s Beyond the Dark Portal! So it was to be expected. 28 years in the making for her proper comeback
watched 3 times already and about to watch it with my man Accolonn
Ofc i loved it. The origin story of her armor, and motivation ❤
Finally Warcraft's storytelling is more like warcraft, hope the expansion does the same.
I still wonder what are the Daemons up to since Sargeras is in prison
Yes!! Bring on the Anime!!
