  • Olias, thank you for this. This was absolutely spectacular in every way possible. If you close your eyes you can almost hear Peter.. it's kinda eerie honestly lol. Steve shows us here that no matter his age, he is absolutely one of the best guitarist ever. A pioneer in so many aspects of the instrument and I am so grateful to have been introduced to this magical world.

Saw Steve and this band about two years ago at a small theater. Shrooms were involved. The show was incredible and the singer and band were top notch. The sound was amazing. Steve still has it, for sure. This song brought down the house. His solos and tapping, etc. were amazing on solo material and Genesis. When I went to get a beer at intermission the 20 something girl tending bar said, "they're killing it." So glad Steve is keeping their Gabriel era music alive.

I have been extremely lucky and blessed to have seen this masterpiece performed live by Genesis in 1974, 1980, and excerpts in 2022. Also by The Musical Box at least 5 times, and by Steve's band another 6 or 9 times. It always moves me to tears at the climax. After so many years I have come to realize that the piece itself is a work of genius. The musicians who happen to be playing it are the vectors of this genius, so long as they are competent on their instruments and their hearts are in the right places.
Exactly like hearing Beethoven's 9th last movement - the Chorale. That's what makes this a classic for the ages.

I couldn't believe it when, back in 2022 Steve Hackett came to Torquay, near my home town of Paignton, Devon. UK! The first half of the show was some of his solo stuff, but the second half was the whole of Foxtrot. To top it all the encores were Dance on a Volcano/Los Endos & Firth of Fifth. What a Gig! - Love your reactions, by-the-way.

It's crazy to think this was over 10 years ago. Gary's backing vocals were a huge bonus to this group. About that closing solo, Steve's always had a huge love of the blues, which never found much of an outlet in the prog/Genesis stuff. So it was super cool when he let rip with a blues-y solo at the end of this song to discover how amazingly well it worked.

That was a great tour saw the show in Vicar Street Dublin, and in Hammersmith London. The band were on fire, highlight was John Wetton singing Afterglow. Steve Hackett was the true romantic soul of Genesis, and always paid great homage to his time with the band kept their music alive. If you can see do this with the full orchestra at Festival Hall London from 2019 it's utterly amazing with incredible sonic power, it's on youtube. Great to see you enjoy this one Lee, 'can't you feel our souls ignite, shedding ever changing colours'. I can.

Amazing performance. Incredible guitarist and human: Steve Hackett.
I totally get why you picked those three songs as your faves... For me: "THE MUSICAL BOX" is number one. Their version on "The Midnight Special" show with Gabriel and Hackett is absolutely brilliant... and when you see them perform it live, you might change your rankings.... My other favorite two songs: "DANCING OUT WITH THE MOONLIT KNIGHT" ... and then a tie between "FLY ON A WINDSHIELD / BROADWAY MELODY OF 1974" "FIRTH OF FIFTH," and "SUPPER'S READY"... ALL of those songs feature Hackett's blistering guitar.

Hackett to Bits - the GTR version is him & Steve Howe doing a medley of Steve’s solo work up to 1985 and it quite fantastic and better than the original Steve Hackett version of that song. The addition of Howe is a plus to any new version of a song.

You’re right about the majesty of this song. I think the forces of good and evil in the world that this song suggests are a function of human intent and interpretation. Whatever such things are, they have been captured and shared in this song.
