I just blew the dust off of "About Face" and re-read it for the first time in 29 years. I first read it as an Army Cadet and some of the lessons I read there I carried with me for my 26.5 year military career. My second read through was with the eyes of personal experience. So much turned out to be true.

He dispels the myth of the laid-back Southern Californian. Col. Hackworth was a pure warrior with advanced intellect. He was one of the finest soldiers the U.S. has ever produced.

Col. Hackworth was my absolute favorite on Fox News Channel in the early 2000's. I remember the shock of his loss like it was yesterday. He was the best of what this country has ever had to offer. RIP "Hack". 😢

I got to read Col hackworth's book when it was 1'st published and he lead a life of his many choices and challenge's but for me his real service for his country came when he started to think and realize that their was something very wrong with the command structure that he willingly followed his entire life , and when he started to challenge the very same command structure for me that's when his real bravery showed , for it's easy to follow orders without thought or conscience he didn't stop loving his country he just started questioning command he and Col Anthony herburt are professional soldiers who decided to answer to a higher calling their consicnce and the families of the dead , RIP sir you are known and missed , cpl s d santana former us marine

Hack talked about "ticket punchers" at the Pentagon in his book About Face. That was about the military of over 50 years ago. I think the number of ticket punchers today in 2024 is at an all time high.

If that is a ranger tab, I could be wrong, but don't ever recall him mentioning going to ranger school in any of his writings.

  • @sonnydsantana770

ms zonna , the prized ranger tab is just 1' of many John Wayne survival sch's that the us army has , in sheer experience Col hackworth's has led more patrools and ambushes and raids then most of the combat instructor's who teach the crafts and I'm fairly sure that most of the real graduate's of the Benning sch for bad boys heard of know and respect Col hackworth most would agree that he's done well without having attended the ranger sch

    1. Hackworth did not "fight" in World War II.
    2. The proper name for the organization is the U.S. Merchant Marine. Members of it are merchant mariners, merchant seamen or merchant marine officers. They are not "merchant marines," and there is no such organization as "the merchant marines."
    3. The only Marines we have in this country are members of the U.S. Marine Corps. Everyone else is something else - I suppose - but they are not "marines," merchant or otherwise.
    4. This video is ill-informed, illiterate and misleading. People should disregard it and, instead, read the book "About Face" by David Hackworth.
