Yes I had noticed that too after revisiting the recordings. Must have to do with the early ICs, they're located in the first gain stage. But keep in mind that this is quietly spoken word with dynamic mics. In actual use I haven't run into problems with the noise levels.
The newer sounds bad to my ears, like some broke circuits, i hear distortion in some lower frequencies. The older one sounds much better, clearer and the mids more focused. Both sounds a little vintage. I expected much from these beasts. I will try to listen again in a better speakers. My phone speakers is not the best way to 🎧 listen. Thanks for this amazing review and test ❤
Pleasure! And after the recording of the video I've also noticed that the newer V672s have a little more noise going on. So yes, me too I prefer the first revision..
Amazing work! Both sound great. Would be convenient to have a pair of each
Fantastic video! I'm curious, why does the v672/1 have significantly more noise?

for me the later version without the green trafo, sounds better only on dirty guitar
