For a long time I wished that I could have been alive during the Apollo program, I'm actually very fortunate to be able to witness the Orion era, thanks to the wonders of technology I can keep updated on a semi-daily basis. I'm SO excited to see the Orion/s in action.
@RhyeguyGilmer actually, both Orion and Dragon are only capsules, so they aren't going anywhere on their own. + Dragon is already built and Orion is not.
We heard Apollo 17 all the way from Tampa Florida. It launched late at night and it was like watching the sun rise. Sometimes you could hear the shuttles launch if conditions were just right.
@TheisticThinker Absolutely! They say the ground shook during a Saturn V launch in a way the space shuttle never could. I can't imagine how the Earth will quake during an SLS launch! I have every intention of seeing a launch, something I never did but should have during the space shuttle era. I'm excited to look up at the night sky and know that Orion is out there.
@KD0IDB So agree, when I see photos from the moon from the Apollo missions I get amazed, it must have been such a cool time to live in. But now I'm proud of this era! We will see SLS slingshot around the moon (Mayvbe land!), go to an asteroid far away from Earth and then missions to Mars!! It only makes it better that SLS has the same design as Saturn V, but will be the most powerful rocket ever built!
This is a big step forward, will be significantly safer than the aging shuttle fleet. We will get back out there again. I was lucky enough to watch Apollo 11 on TV the night they walked on the moon. I hope to live to see an American astronaut set foot on Mars.
Gosh, that is so cool! Thank you for sharing that with me, I will never lose excitement or interest in first-hand accounts like your's! Feel free to elaborate further :-)
Look at some of the recent changes NASA has made. In their most recent video the Orion capsule flies forward towards Earth, then detaches from the rocket and solar panels and falls down to Earth. Whereas here at 1:43 you can see that the rocket and the panels fall together and the rocket detaches from the rest and moves away from the other parts, which is a bit risky, so they changed it. Also in the most recent video the solar panels are like those on the ISS, here they are circular.
Never mind the asteroid. Mars is our neighbor and remains the realistic goal in say 10-20 years. We keep putting it off- we'll never do it. So let's DO IT!

Orion - "Daddy".
Apollo CSM - "Hello, Son"

I got chills! Awesome, I can't wait for Orion to get off the ground.
@Nikec33 dragon is for going to and from the space station only....so no its not even close.
@youjerkass SpaceX is already planning on including this ability in the Dragon capsule, I'd be surprised if NASA doesn't work it into MPCV eventually.

sad that cool vids like this get so few views.
i finally knew how hard is it to design a interplanetary spacecraft
its 2020, and Orion still have many tests and research to carry out
@RhyeguyGilmer Elon Musk has said repeatedly that Dragon has been designed with flexibility to be reconfigured for both Moon and Mars missions.
Great projeсt!
NASA creates future!

WHAT is this piece of music?? It is very exciting!
Amazing!
cool!
awesome
While Orion is more practical than sexy, this video was sexy! Well produced! More! (Can we get this on, say, morning shows?)

Dragon is better!
yeah because it hasn't been testet for crew missions after it exploded?
