Honestly, I'm sat at home and these videos you post simply relax me and I feel like I'm on holiday too. Beautifully shot, soothing music, no verbal narrative just text to read. It's so calming and non intrusive. It really does make me want to book.
You just took an old warrior on a fabulous tour of the best of what used to be the capital city of my enemy. I always admired the grace and beauty of the Vietnamese people - even amidst a terrible war. I have fine friends to this day because of it - one being my hair stylist, and we speak some Vietnamese together. I am so pleased to see the Metropole survived the battles in all her splendor - a cathedral among fine hotels. Your talent is truly appreciated. Cảm ơn rât nhiều!
This is one of the best, if not THE best, videos you have ever done. The visuals, the editing, and the music are all stunning. I have to admit I was moved to tears for how you portrayed this historic hotel and amazing country. Your videos are so much more than tours of rooms and restaurants. Thank you for posting and I look forward to many more.
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. This my friend is a classic. Moving, Touching, Emotional, and it makes me forget everything but the world of Vietnam. Now I see why Anthony Bourdain ( Parts Unknown ) fell in love with this country at first sight while he stayed at the Metropole. You just got a new subscriber. Thank You
What a stunning video. Just as I was starting to tire of the hotel you livened it up showing the awesome street scene. Then the bay. Vietnam just moved way up on my places to travel. Ty!
what a beautiful hotel, historical buildings should always be preserved, once gone they are lost to our memories and eventually, forever. thanks for sharing your videos!!
every time we go to Hanoi, my family stayed there. it is not cheap. the breakfast went downhill compared to the first time we stayed. we also stayed in Parkhyatt in Saigon. the breakfast at the Park Hyatt is a lot better than Metropole. we missed our stay in both hotels. We wish we can visit there again soon!
We love staying at the Sofitel Hotel Chain and this one looks absolutely amazing. We stayed at the Sofitel in Ho Chi Minh City and hopefully when we visit Hanoi in the future we will get the chance to visit this Sofitel too. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and have a good week ahead! Best Regards from Maxi and Maro in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Just returned from staying at the Sofitel in Macau. We stayed in one of the Mansions and wow, we had 2 floors of opulence, private pool and just wonderfulness! The Sofitel is a nice brand under the Accor label.
It's amazing and thank God the hotel had not been destroyed by the war. I will definitely stay there a couple of days if I have a chance to go to Hanoi. Thanks for showing the beautiful and elegant hotel which also has a lot of historical events.
Le Beaulieu restaurant is a beautiful place for breakfast. It’s like having breakfast at a gallery with all the famous French paintings. And the scent of a cake shop throughout the Metropole!
Beaucoup de beauté dans cet hotel et de sérénité aussi surement. La nourriture, on fait confiance, on sait à l'avance que c'est délicieux. Et meci pour ces images finales de la baie de Halong.
Not only is the hotel beautiful but the cruise around Halong Bay was magnificent. Worth the long ride from Hanoi, I'm sure. Your series on Vietnam has been most enlightening and moving to me. You are a gem, Doc! P.S. What? You and your red suitcase came to SFO again without calling me? Shame on you-lol! Will be interested to see that flight vlog since my round trip flight 2 yrs ago from SFO to Paris and back on United wasn't very pleasant. Of course I was in economy :-(
Man I love your videos. Increadible! Just one thing I would adjust a little: The noise of the surroundings is too heavy on the base and too loud. Changing it would make it the perfect videos! ❤️
Your videos are the very Best travel & hotel videos in the entire RUclips site! Thank You so much for making incredible, beautiful, and very informative videos for us travelers to choose hotels for our travels.
Probably we were in the same time in Vietnam and Hanoi. What a pity I didn't know my favourite trip reporter. As always a beautiful video. Although Vietnam is gorgeous, Hanoi, in my point of view, was the weakest point of my journey through this beautiful country
Can I recommend you going to Ravenscar , at the Raven Hall Hotel in North Yorkshire. Hotel's right on the cliff with fantastic views, and the hotel's pretty good too. Great video.
I stayed at the Metropole about 8 years ago. Our first room was in Oprah wing, small and very dark, nice bathroom though so we moved to the newer section that had club benefits. Very glitzy beautiful room. We liked the hotel however we expected the service to be comparable to the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok and it wasn't. The service was so bad it was difficult to get someone to call us a taxi. The breakfast was ok that is all. The club benefits very ordinary. Had a horrible evening meal in the main restaurant. I liked the history of the hotel, the grounds, the exterior, our second room but over all we prefer the Intercontinental at Westlake. Last year we stayed at the Sofitel in Saigon, while it doesn't have the history, needs updating, their service, club benefits and huge excellent buffet breakfast amazed us and exceeded all expectations.
What an amazing place. You can still feel the spirit of it’s history. IMO the Metropolitan historic looked more appealing to me than the Opera Wing. How many days of staying would you recommend in Hanoi to do the most important sightseeing spots? Maybe a combination of some sightseeing and afterwards a nice place at the beach sounds good. Maybe you have some advice.
This is a beautiful video. You did a great job and show everything inside and outside of the hotel. I will be staying there in Jan 2019. I am really looking forward to it. Thank you very much.
the Luxury Travel Expert hope you review Le Sirenuse in Positano, Belmond Caruso In Ravello and Caesar Augustus in Capri. In my opinion, the 3 best in Amalfi :)
What a great old world charming hotel. A very well laid out video. The outside of the Opera, reminds of the Hotel De Ville Paris. Halong Bay is breath taking. Were you able to take a 3 day cruise or just a day cruise?
were there places u would have wanted to see that u didn't get a chance to see on this trip? the opera side of the hotel was my favorite...thanks for sharing
The French have an expression of pleasant surprise "ah!" the splendor of French architecture. Even though France colonized Indochina including Vietnam, they have left a great legacy there as well the introduction of the great Western culture. Apparently Vietnam embraces and adapts quickly well to the West.
It's odd the Vietnamese brought in a French company to run the hotel given their colonial past. I would have used one of the great Indian luxury hotel chains, like Taj, Oberoi or Leela.
I would have upgraded. What you call charming was old and outdated. The room, whilst clean looked and felt grubby. If that's what the rooms are like in the historic wing hmmmm. The room in the modern wing well that was very charming indeed. While it's called modern it actually looked and felt like it belonged in the historic wing. However the same cannot be said about the club lounge. That was appalling to say the least and has missed the mark. Definitely doesn't belong anywhere in the hotel 😂 Beautiful hotel though and I would stay there 👍
It's not a minor point, Somerset Maugham is a man indeed. Not sure why I have always thought it was a woman ... I should go back to the history class :)

Thank you for your subscription. Safe travels!
@3:30, this is one of the most tasteful hotel lobbies I have ever seen anywhere. Amazing sense of design, destined to give rest and pleasure.
What a stunning video. Just as I was starting to tire of the hotel you livened it up showing the awesome street scene. Then the bay. Vietnam just moved way up on my places to travel. Ty!
How can you not feel serene in such a calm and gorgeous environment? It's like a time-machine. Magnifique !
We LOVE the Metrople. Been there many times and can’t wait to go back. After lockdown...
Still waiting...9 months later 😭😩
10 months later :)))))
Stunning -evocative and atmospheric! LV the music that lends an air or mystery and refinement. I want to watch this video over and over again!
Such a Beautiful Hotel... Full of Charm & Elegance... Tour of Hanoi City Night Life & Halong Bay was Super... Thanks for Sharing
What an incredible country
I stayed here 3 days in 2004 on a holiday to visit Vietnam and Cambodia for 10 days, this hotel was already truly amazing!
32:47 I don't know why, but I always think it's really sweet when the staff give you a little wave. ☺️
What a trip is to travel the world with you. You are doing a great service.
Congrats on 100K subscriber! Vietnam has come a long way with first class tourism.
You lost me briefly with Hanoi Jane, but the video came back strong. What a magnificent hotel thoroughly 'today' of a by-gone era. Nice one....
Stunning all the way around, from location and setting to the production quality!! Congratulations!
I had the pleasure of staying in this hotel in July of 2018 and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life so far.
It's amazing that these old buildings are still there when you consider that Hanoi was heavily bombed during the Vietnam War (Operation Linebacker).
what a beautiful hotel, historical buildings should always be preserved, once gone they are lost to our memories and eventually, forever. thanks for sharing your videos!!

Looks peaceful and romantic!!!!! A unique vibe.

Love the classical elegance. 😊
Just returned from staying at the Sofitel in Macau. We stayed in one of the Mansions and wow, we had 2 floors of opulence, private pool and just wonderfulness! The Sofitel is a nice brand under the Accor label.
This is beautiful! It reminds me of Cuba during Hemingway's time. I wish we had something like this in the Philippines.
I’ve stayed at the Metropole in December 2000 and it is beautiful and historic.
It's amazing and thank God the hotel had not been destroyed by the war. I will definitely stay there a couple of days if I have a chance to go to Hanoi. Thanks for showing the beautiful and elegant hotel which also has a lot of historical events.
Thank you for making this gorgeous video!
Another relaxing and outstanding review. Congratulations on surpassing 102K subscribers!
thank you
Nice grand Hotel, specially the old, antique Teakwood furnitures are a added glamour. Old yet elegant looks are beautiful.
Wouahhhh....c'est vraiment très très beau et très très accueillant ! J'irai sûrement un jour...ou du moins, je l'espère ! 😎💓💓💓
Thank you! I plan on doing some writing in this hotel and also bringing my tour group through!😀
Have fun!
Le Beaulieu restaurant is a beautiful place for breakfast. It’s like having breakfast at a gallery with all the famous French paintings. And the scent of a cake shop throughout the Metropole!
Very nicely put together, some really rather good editing.

Stayed there in 2016, beautiful hotel
Awesome video...Thanks for sharing. :-)
Journey back in time. Wow😇🙏🙌🌍✌💛
Probably we were in the same time in Vietnam and Hanoi. What a pity I didn't know my favourite trip reporter. As always a beautiful video. Although Vietnam is gorgeous, Hanoi, in my point of view, was the weakest point of my journey through this beautiful country
Awesome hotel, one of my all time favourites. Love the video by the way.
I also visited the Halong Bay and had a private cruise. Very beautiful but it's a 3 and a half hour drive from Hanoi.
Can I recommend you going to Ravenscar , at the Raven Hall Hotel in North Yorkshire. Hotel's right on the cliff with fantastic views, and the hotel's pretty good too. Great video.
I've lived in the Old Quarter all my life, walked past this hotel countless of times, yet I've never been inside lol.
Very peaceful and nice. Glad Viet Nam still keeps its history.
Spotted @ 14:18 the world famous red suitcase. Amazing property
Was kind of a tight squeeze for Red and friends, but I loved the rooms LTE showed us, as well as the charm of the hotel.
I'd appreciate it if you could list the price.

Would you recommend the Intercontinental for us? Im planning to go Hanoi as soon as the Covid clear off.
Stunning selection
Halong Bay....no wonder Scaramanga wanted to live there.
Enjoyed an exquisite French meal here during one of several visits

Do you plan on reviewing any Amalfi Coast hotels soon in Italy?
I arrived in the Amalfi coast today, so I may start uploading my Amalfi trip reports in a few weeks time
the Luxury Travel Expert hope you review Le Sirenuse in Positano, Belmond Caruso In Ravello and Caesar Augustus in Capri. In my opinion, the 3 best in Amalfi :)
I will review the following properties: Belmond Caruso, Caesar Augustus, JK Palace Capri, Monastero Santa Rosa, and Mezzatorre
the Luxury Travel Expert can't wait to see it as always :)
Nice music do you know the title?
Tuyet voi ❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰
What a great old world charming hotel. A very well laid out video. The outside of the Opera, reminds of the Hotel De Ville Paris. Halong Bay is breath taking. Were you able to take a 3 day cruise or just a day cruise?
We made the mistake by doing a day cruise, which I wouldn't recommend (8 hours in car; 4 hours on the water)
Nice atmosphere but i couldn't sleep at night because of the loud music from the bar at the pool.
25:41, beautiful song!
another great video my friend.. bravo
Great video.. may i ask where do you get music such as the piano piece thats playing in your video? It sounds so nice.. thank you in advance
www.epidemicsound.com
Beautiful.. History matters.
Thank you for sharing it was very beautiful, I loved how you move your camera,
Any security issues while roaming Hanoi? Any other concerns (food, water, etc.)?
Charlie H there are some issues with foods and water. Only drunk bottle water and only eat at nice clean restaurants
Wow, just wow!
How noisy was the traffic outside your historic wing room?
Charlie H it is not noisy
were there places u would have wanted to see that u didn't get a chance to see on this trip? the opera side of the hotel was my favorite...thanks for sharing
Love this. The beauty.😇🙏🙌✌🌍😎👄🦋
Feels like you could retire there and write a novel!
The hotel is elegant and distinctive, but the suite room rates are supposed to be indicated on the one-night stand. Greetings♥️🌹🌷
Stunning

History indeed. Blessed be to God. Amen.🙏🙌🌞✌
That poolside ceasar salad may of tasted nice. But the presenation looked horrible.
No it laid down, or sat on my bed (on the other side). The matress moved and i heard a sigh like someone was going to sleep!
DK stop putting up stupid comments about ghosts in this hotel. Fuck you shit
So special.

Minor point, but W. Somerset Maugham (with an m) was a man.
