This is always my 'go to' album whenever I feel like listening to her....dont know all the albums, but this one is soooo genuine. Such immense female power just awesome to listen to as a man and submit to
Yeah honestly I have been testing to get an isolated background of caught a life sneeze bv I love her background vocals, I could listen to them on repeat just o their own
Back when MTV was good and showcased various artists, they showed parts of this during commercial breaks. I was literally sitting in the edge of my couch in awe of her voice. I bought Boys for Pele days later. Still one of my favorite albums of all time. So many amazing songs. She's simply amazing.
"Pele" is a legendary album and the first time I'd heard of Tori Amos way back in 96. Tori and that album changed my life forever. I've been a big fan ever since.
boys for pele is her best, and my favourite album. it made me and helped realize and understand a lot of things...about myself, others... and i really think that this album is something intimate to everyone
No matter how many times I watch this...or even listen to her... I am absolute awe. You have to watch Piano Shopping with her if you haven't already seen it.
She did loads of drugs for this album, she went and had some mad peyote fucking cactus trip or something like that hahaha In another interview she says she did mushrooms too
She was actually writing part of "Doughnut Song" there at the end (melody of the lyric 'Something's just keeping you numb'). What a little nugget of awesome.
Sonically one of the most amazing albums ever. It's so complex. I bought it on a whim when it was released. I was in highschool. It was life changing for me for so many reasons. I had the VHS this interview appeared on and watched it until the words fell off.
This was awesome! Thanks so much! Her hair looks so cool in the sunlight against that yellow field! Does anyone have more footage of the making of Boys For Pele, specifically songs that were recorded in New Orleans? (Watching this video makes me feel nostalgic...I don't know why...like I want to go back in time and commune with her at the Dew Drop Inn once again...)
The production on this album was so great. The sounds they captured on widow and the intimacy of her vocals on some of the songs and the layering of Caught a Lite Sneeze are so great.
My favorite part of this song is her background vocals. I was trying to find the isolates part of this segment because it's so beautiful and raw, have the acoustics of the church just gives her voice all the room it needs to flow brilliantly
I don't think that she's on drugs. Well, at least not during these interviews. No, that's Tori. It was the 90s. She was a major recording artist. I have the feeling that something...odd like this would not be possible today.
@@aliisakalma8245 she wasn't on drugs as in an addict, but she did ayhuasca trips for this album and in an interview about her daughter recently she says about doing magic mushrooms, that's what the song father Lucifer is about!
I'm kind of jealous of her, she gets paid for doing something she really (truly)adores, her work is really self indulgent and beautiful. I think she can teach everyone a few things (if you like her music or not)most people i know could do with a bit of inspiration (me included). thanks for the vid, xx
Peyote!!! She was so high on shamanic drugs during this whole album. She's admitted it herself. This album is really the scope of her genius. For me, it's Tori at her best. Top 10 fav albums ever.
BOYS FOR PELE is a masterpiece! Brilliant songs. Tori is an incredible musician, a real visionary who is original and unique! I have some of her other amazing albums, but this album remains my favourite.
Man, the part where she's talk about the string makes me think 'wow...she's nuts' and then simultaneously feel incredibly jealous that I don't feel what she does or when I do play and feel that feeling, that I could never express as she does.
i guess what some people call nuts others might call receptive. she is clearly a musical prodigy whose passion and talent allows her to go to fantastical places in her mind, and her success allows her to chase the currents she describes. singing and recording in a church is a beautiful privelege that most of us won't enjoy, but hooking a microphone up to a reverb unit and into your stereo is easy, and cAn take you to some magical places. it certainly helps me. eye would agree that this album is the zenith of those initial waves she was riding; a masterpiece
I wish that she could find that pocket in the universe that she slipped into during Pele b/c nothing else is as unique (in the entire sonic industry!)or strokes so many passions as this. I've never felt so much as I have from that album and it never tires.
also, tori is NATURALLY 'in her own world.' she views the world in a magical way--so do many people who do NOT use drugs (and i suspect she doesn't use many drugs, if ANY, these days.) she got some insight from ayahuasca, peyote, other hallucinogens (mostly plants); she learned her lessons and likely doesn't need these experiences anymore. personally, i don't use drugs, and i think much the way she does. she's just a creative spirit, and very spiritual.
This was the Tori Amos Album for me. At the time I was into Metal, Alternative Rock, Punk and was very open to Aphex Twin, Björk and that whole electronic stuff from the UK, mainly because of my daily hashish gram. But This album worked on me as a meditation, 17-18 year old, stoned and trying to be self reflective, trying to learn through living and I had a major crush on her. I still listen to this album.
Attention Rhino Records: We want "Boys For Pele" in a 3 Disc Set. Disc 1 The ORIGINAL ALBUM...UNALTERED. Disc 2 The Remixes/Reversions, Outtakes, B-Sides & Rare Edits Disc 3 DVD of the BOYS FOR PELE Press Kit, The RAINN Concert, Rare Live Footage and Videos from The BFP ERA.
This album also changed my life too marcooland, taught me what it was to reclaim my own fire, especially sneeze, talula, damage..... one of the best albums ever made if you ask me.
wow...it makes sense why when i listen to her music, i feel so spiritually connected. it's like she/her music takes me on a journey through the spirit world and back.
I don't think she's on drugs, I think its ego, which is good, we need more women comfortable with a strong ego, she was writing good music at this time
Dew Drop Inn was awesome--the best time to commune with Tori and fellow EWF! And yes, I'd love to see Tori in action in New Orleans. The spiritual undercurrent in that city is ridiculously strong; I'd love to see her response to it.
she's not bi-polar, she was in a dark place at the time with the end of her relationship with Rosse and the first of her miscarriages occurred around this time. She was trying to reclaim her whole self during Pele. I agree it was a fantastic album - my first tori album! She's singing Inanna, bring your son.
Well, I'm no druggie but there's no question that drugs empower creativity. They can't turn an uncreative person into a creative one, but they open your mind to what's going on INSIDE your mind more than normal.
LE i smy fave CD, but Pele is thje second and pretty much revolutionary. One of the most unique pieces of pure art I have ever seen/heard. Tour and everything. Pure, raw emotion is the entire era. I love that 3 disc set. A genius idea for a genius time!!!!
I could watch/listen to her playing Caught a Lite Sneeze on the harpsichord at 2:59 every single day and never get tired of it. Listening is only half the ecstasy....to get it all, you have to watch her as well.
@slivertoe i think maybe she's just warming up her voice. it sucks because i would love if she cut all those bits and pieces and put an album together with voice and piano improvisations. i would so buy it right away! she seems so completely inspired and inspiring.
Boys for Pele is the best album of all time. Tori Amos is the best musician of all time. Just my opinion, but whoever says that Tori has no talent shall be kicked in the face by moi.
Tori lived in Jupiter, Florida. Caught a light sneeze is my favorite. I think the album Boys For Pele the album art was different than the photo on the cover now. I got the CD because of the picture was beautiful.
Where did the footage come from.. ? To cool. I am a longtime fan and have a LOT of diff stuff with her but i have nvr nvr seen this! Thx so much for posting.
A pure entity, her voice is that all on its own! She's such a space cadet, lol, but I love it!! This silly girl is so much more though! No drugs, but yes it makes you wonder...She's great!
@astronumerous so very well put. Creation happens on the edge of this reality and another and if people aren't comfortable enough with themsleves enough to acknowledge that then its their fault their loss. THUMBS UP!!!
What does "innanna" mean? (is this something special in english? im from germany and perhaps you could tell me.. Thanks... and OOOH YES She's my Goddess)
Wow. Tori was totally wired during this period. Such energy...no wonder Pele turned out one of the greatest albums of our time.
That harpsichord part in Caught a Light Sneeze is EVERYTHING. 😌🏆🏆🏆🏆
This has to be her rawest album..her core of all pain, happiness, and anger..
This is always my 'go to' album whenever I feel like listening to her....dont know all the albums, but this one is soooo genuine. Such immense female power just awesome to listen to as a man and submit to
This was one of the albums that defined my high school years. Thank you, Tori.
the moment she starts recording the background chorus for "Caught A Lite Sneeze" are just... WOW. A shiver through the spine.
I've lost count how many chills have shot through me on this video, she's def sourcing from another planet here, just astounding.

Tori Amos is a living legend, and Pele is the best album of all time. Thanks so much for posting this video!
Tori doesn't need external drugs, her brain makes it all for free. She's awesome!
She did ayahuasca though (before this album was made if I remember right). Maybe other stuff. But yeah she's a weirdo anyway (in the best way).

Not much else
Love this behind the scenes interview of truly her best album and one of the best albums of all time. Spiritual, organic and just lovely.

This is just... wonderful. Damn, the way the sound just echoes in the building... It;s beautiful. I miss it.
Amazing album - one of Tori's greatest records.
She is THE BEST! ALWAYS AND EVER! I got chills when she started to sing Caught a Lite Sneeze in that church
