I have a doubt regarding the categorization of levels, can I classify mild, moderate, severe and extremely severe levels and their percentages based on the classification of those who have depression, anxiety and stress? Or is it correct to use the 5 categories (normal, mild, moderate, severe and extremely severe) to observe the percentages? Thanks a lot in advance!

Walekum assalam! The mean value is different for depression, anxiety, and stress as they are three different constructs. Therefore, you need to test normality individually for depression, anxiety, and stress. I have a video showing how to do it check for normality. All the best.

Hello sir and thank you for your helpful video. I am currently doing an analysis on mental health of e-sports players and I have made use of the DASS-21. I am using SPSS for data analysis of my survey which included Part1: the DASS-21 and Part2: demographic questions including to fill out age, playing experience, daily playing exposure, most games played (variables of interest). Here a quick question for you: The question is about the measure (nominal, ordinal, scale) that is appropriate for what category. Should I put in SPSS for the data regarding the DASS-21 nominal, ordinal, scale? And for the data regarding demographic information (nominal, ordinal, scale)?
Thank you very much as your videos are extremely good to understand!

    • @ramagokulakrishnan
      @ramagokulakrishnan  2 года назад

Hi. As mentioned, SPSS/PSPP both recognize three types of variables- nominal, ordinal, and scale. The 21 items in DASS 21 are all technically ordinal in nature (0-4 rating). Hence, when you enter it in the software under the variable view, you can set those variables to- ordinal under the measure option. However, when you sum all the 21 items to secure the total score, the totalled score is a continuous/scale variable.
As far as the demographic variables are concerned, the type of variable depends on the variable in question and how it was collected. Generally variables such as age (25,26,27), height (5.1, 5.2, 5.3), weight (65,66,67), number of hours playing e-sports, etc., are all measured on scale measure (just raw numbers).
Other socio-demographic variables that are categorical/nominal in nature include variables like gender (male/female/trans) that are in categories.
Finally, some socio-demographic/economic variables might be measured on an ordinal measure too (0- strongly disagree- 4- strongly agree).
Note- SPSPP/PSPP will carry out the data analysis irrespective of the type of variable (measure) you set in.
I hope this answers your question. All the best with your study.

@@ramagokulakrishnan A further question for you. As mentioned before, I have 4 variables of interest: age(18-25;26--35;>35), daily playing exposure (10h), playing experience (0-3y; 3-8y, 8-10y, >10y); most games played(Shooting games; non-shooting games). I used three questionnaires in my survey, the DASS-21.(Dep.;Anx.;Stress), the PSS (Stress) and the WEMWBS (mental well-being). I want to analyze in each of the 4 variables (f.ex in age, at what age the stress is highest/lowest and mental well-being is highest/lowest. What would you use? One-way Anova? t-test? I have already created in SPSS the subgroups for each variable.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to mention it in your reply if something was not clear.

@@giacomomigliore6506 The kind of tests one performs depends on three major factors
      1. The kind of hypotheses one has.
      2. The type of variable in question.
      3. The normality of data.
The type of hypothesis will determine as to which variable will be treated as the independent variable and which one will be the dependent variable. For example, if a researcher has a hypothesis that there is an association between the age of the respondents and the number of hours of playing video games per week, the age of the respondents will be the independent variable and the hours of playing games will be the dependent variable because it is assumed that with a change in the age of the respondents, their hours of gaming will also change. This is the first step in determining which test to use.
The second step is to check for the type of data that we have. If the independent variable (IV) is categorical (ex: 10-18 years and 19-25 years) and the dependent variable (DV) is also categorical (1-5 hours and 6-12 hours), a chi square test would be ideal. If the IV is categorical(ex: 10-18 years and 19-25 years (only two groups), and the DV is continuous (1,2,3,4,5,6,7 hours...etc), a t-test would be ideal provided there is normality of data. A one way ANOVA is used when the IV has three or more groups (ex 10-18, 19-25, 26-35). If both IV and DV are continuous (age 18,19,20,21...etc and hours 1,2,3,4,5....
etc) and you have normality of data, a Pearson's correlation can be used.
Finally, you need to check for normality of data. Only when there is normality, one should opt for parametric tests like t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's Correlation. In case there isn't any normality of data, you need to opt for non-parametric tests like Kruskall Wallis test, chi square, spearman's rank correlation, etc.
I have videos on all these on my channel. Have a look. All the best.
