@@lucasyeah7974 sadly it would be a cheese, cause this isn't a bug in the game, it's a feature the devs didn't balance well. I hope they push stone walls to castle age.
Tbh, I think there are some civs that have tools to counter this strategy. Namely the HRE and English since they have early MAA which counters most feudal armies. HRE would probably be castle with a MAA death ball by the time you spring this on them, Burgrave Palace anyone? While English these days love to go in for early pressure and most civs don’t have good answers for their early MAA longbow combo, thus they would have a standing army that can easily counter yours and eliminate your villagers. But yeah this strategy would be rough for civs like Abbasid, which not only has two landmarks, but no good answers for early rush and walls. It would probably be impossible to do this against Ottomans since more likely than not they will be the ones sieging you down first with the mehter and archer ball.
I agree but if nobody has been doing it, isn’t this video now gonna make people do it? 😅 I get that if mass people do it then the devs will react but if nobody has been doing it in the first place then is ot really a problem?
in my opinion, a battering ram should have less health so that it is easier to kill it and make less damage. it's strange that you can do rams, but your opponent can't do counter units to him, namely springfields. Perhaps it would be nice to give the opportunity to put engineering workshops in which you can only build springfields.
This is a funny meme strat, but it's insanely easy to counter on most civs - HRE can easily clear the RAMs with MAA while facetanking the archers with their armor. Then when RAMs are down just sit in TC firing on the archers until more Rams are built, all while rushing to get a blacksmith for ranged armor and siege engineering. - French/Rus can easily clear with knights(+ arrows from tc focusing any spears on the ground) - English can easily clear the rams with MAA. or just use TC fire to prevent stone wall from getting down. - Mongols can just run away - Abassid has access to siege engineering from the start without blacksmith upgrade, they could've built a siege tower to get on top of the archers, or Rams to take down the wall. The issue in this matchup was GUA was very heavy on cav. - China mirror has 3 landmarks(if going for dynasty bonus), one of which is a barbican, so it takes longer to push, likely requiring more stone to extend the wall -The remaining civs, Delhi, Ottoman, and Malians, have things a bit more difficult if their landmarks are too close together(usually the case, unless Malians went for trade network). But they will still win if they react quickly to the vills running in. This will probably get nerfed anyway though, they nerfed the Mongol TC drop strategy at launch because it was annoying, and this is sort of the same concept.
well It may be easy to counter but it is still hard to scout because same as in this video, you think it will be fast tc, so its basicly a 50/50 and if that is the easiest most succesfull cheese out there every game will turn just into that same 50/50 decision because why would you play the game normally if there is this kind of easy win gamble, this will ruin the top ladder and people who actually want to play the strategy game not gamba will quit and the game will die over long time
@@hunternunley4003 Spear is ok as siege tower would absorb all damage before drop troop on wall and zhuge nu may still aim at tower. Also, unit on wall received less range damage, including spear that just drop, but not melee damage; so spear could do full damage while zhuge nu do 3-6 damage per volley. i dead ass don't see the problem here. I've encountered this strat many times , all you have to do to shut it down is to either wall your base or have some presence on the map to make that push impossible. If you're caught your pants down, it's on you. Even then, just don't place all your landmark so close to each other , spread them a little and you're fine. People are so stuck up saying it should be banned they don't even try to face it and counter it, really it's not that hard. The only thing i would suggest as a nerf is to simply make it impossible de build in the influence zone of your enemy and made stone wall take 20sec each to be built no matter what. You don't need to ban stone wall in feudal at all.
Technically, GUA play Abadsid which is already have siege engineer and can build both ram and siege tower after reaching Feudal age, so as long as wood is available, GUA could build siege to counter wall immediately to deal with offensive wall rush.
Great strategy and points made. What about Civs that can passively accumulate stone in the feudel age? Should the Malians not be allowed to use stone they get from the Mansa Quarry? They already cant make castles so it would be pointless to go stone in the feudel.
in feudal, what you're going to put in a siege tower to kill that bunch of zhuge nu, even if you're english or HRE with MAA the Zhuge Nu in that numbers melt them, and im pretty sure that the Zhuge nu kill the siege tower as well, so, there is no counterplay if your enemy get away with this, only prevention, wich is also difficult if your enemy plays your mind like drongo explain
@@matiasvaldesrivera5254 Not sure. Every units on stone wall received less range damage, including infantry that drop on wall from siege tower. So Infantry is more atvantage fighting on stone wall as they take less damage while still do full damage. Main issue that many people think on siege tower is too small capacity and too cumbersome to drop many troops on all as it needs to use drop command again and again for each drop.
GuA had only horsemen, if he had infantry he could've just gone up that gate, but nobody would think to counter something like this. Even if abbasid can build siege towers from dark age, he didn't have anything to go against zhuge nu up on walls. He would need man at arms, which are age 3 units.
@@MrLinkDay Spear is ok as wall reduce Zhuge nu from 4 DMG per arrow to 1-2 DMG per arrow (take only 1/3 range damage), result in not much different DMG taken compare to MAA. Just that, with that much Zhuge nu on narrow wall, it's need lots of spear to wipe out.
1. Could the strat be enhanced by using a stone tower instaed of a gate? 2. Couldn't the strat be countered by a few rams to demolish one wall segement and make the crossbows vulnarable?
Honestly... this strat sucks. I think with a little bit of scouting and walling yourself, there is absolutely NO WAY your opponent can just sneak a bunch of villagers in to build stone wall in the first place. Call me deluded BUT GUA fkin sucked. He didnt bother scouting at all if you were playing with an average opponent even, when your vils were walking instantly the cavalry will charge in for some free kills. I think similar to proxy rax in SC 2 once more people get familiar with these "cheese" imho it wouldnt work any more. As for an easy fix? Just copy-paste AOE 3 and dont allow building stone wall near opponent's base.
did you watch the video? did you see the horseman+scout and the horsemen+camel running around aussies base? the main point of this strat is to bait your opponent into thinking you go for 2 tc and therefore force him to do the same. also, aoe4 released over a year ago, thats more than enough time for competitive players.

No its not issue with stone walls. Its issue with China. Drop their fast stone wall build time and we will see how effective this is.
I have only one complain against stone wall and that is Rams don't do much damage against them. And when wall breaks its just one chunk. It should break like it breaks when gate is broken.
exactly, one single manog is enouph to count that from save range, yah the zugenu get less siege damage but still, there are no reinforcement for the chaina player. you can also do just man at arms, once the spears are gone the man at arms clear the wall, or just ignore them on there wall and kill the rams first, he has to come down from his wall to build new rams.
And again, only chain is able to pull that off. All other civ take for ever to build stone walls, it was and still is one of there most porblematic boni.
Its a "catch of guard" strad. If you dont see it coming you lose, just like BBQ in the face or tower rush in general. Once this will get out of hand, ppl will figure out easy ways to counter it effectively.
Anyone know why stone towers are banned in all ages? Also dose anyone know what the radius is for around the hissar acadamy for dehli dose?
I've tried to build one several times without any luck. Did not know they were banned!
Are you gonna stream your ladder push with this strategy?
Had this happen to me earlier. Literally told him to “stop trying the drongo strat” and proceeded to zhuge nu his long bowman on the wall and then ram rush his base lol.
You are so right drongo . In the plastic leagues I play at, I've seen similar strategies. Stone walls make the game boring in fuedal
I’m watching only to learn my new cheese strategy
it's not cheese it's abuse didn't you listen...
@@lucasyeah7974 sadly it would be a cheese, cause this isn't a bug in the game, it's a feature the devs didn't balance well. I hope they push stone walls to castle age.
Its trash. It doesn't work in general. A barbarian rush is more ideal. And this can only work for china not other civs.
Oh what have you done xD i have a feeling ladder will be now be unplayable for an extended period of time...
English and HRE can always do everything easily in AoE4
I remember Beastyqt absolutely clowning on the AI in the campaign with this trick.
Jesus drongo, that was dirty....
Also was I the only one who didn't know we had stone walls at feudal?
I agree but if nobody has been doing it, isn’t this video now gonna make people do it? 😅 I get that if mass people do it then the devs will react but if nobody has been doing it in the first place then is ot really a problem?
you know they already do barbacane rush which are not better, and except for chineese stone walls rush won't really work with only 20 vils
No body is doing it because it doesn't actually work. Barbarian rush can work much better.
in my opinion, a battering ram should have less health so that it is easier to kill it and make less damage. it's strange that you can do rams, but your opponent can't do counter units to him, namely springfields. Perhaps it would be nice to give the opportunity to put engineering workshops in which you can only build springfields.
man, they were in feudal. what workshops?
@@Dmitrii-q6p в этом и смысл, либо воркшоп перенести в другую эпоху ,но какая то контра должна быть
@@Dmitrii-q6p Talking about a counter to rams in the feudal age is what BishoP means. I agree with him as well. Should be a counter to it.
Kill the rams with Spearmen and man at arms. Have workers repairing the damage as it happens.
If the biggest tournament of AoE4 Banned Walls In Feudal, why don't they apply that to the standard games!?
bc almost nobody playing is watching tournaments, look at the latest tournaments only having 2k viewers max other than wololo
I think it would be better if it did not allow you to build walls near someone's starting town center
Cuz its only a problem for autistic pros
This is a funny meme strat, but it's insanely easy to counter on most civs
- HRE can easily clear the RAMs with MAA while facetanking the archers with their armor. Then when RAMs are down just sit in TC firing on the archers until more Rams are built, all while rushing to get a blacksmith for ranged armor and siege engineering.
- French/Rus can easily clear with knights(+ arrows from tc focusing any spears on the ground)
- English can easily clear the rams with MAA. or just use TC fire to prevent stone wall from getting down.
- Mongols can just run away
- Abassid has access to siege engineering from the start without blacksmith upgrade, they could've built a siege tower to get on top of the archers, or Rams to take down the wall. The issue in this matchup was GUA was very heavy on cav.
- China mirror has 3 landmarks(if going for dynasty bonus), one of which is a barbican, so it takes longer to push, likely requiring more stone to extend the wall
-The remaining civs, Delhi, Ottoman, and Malians, have things a bit more difficult if their landmarks are too close together(usually the case, unless Malians went for trade network). But they will still win if they react quickly to the vills running in.
This will probably get nerfed anyway though, they nerfed the Mongol TC drop strategy at launch because it was annoying, and this is sort of the same concept.
well It may be easy to counter but it is still hard to scout because same as in this video, you think it will be fast tc, so its basicly a 50/50 and if that is the easiest most succesfull cheese out there every game will turn just into that same 50/50 decision because why would you play the game normally if there is this kind of easy win gamble, this will ruin the top ladder and people who actually want to play the strategy game not gamba will quit and the game will die over long time
You can pry my stone walls out of my cold dead hand!
god thats disgusting
That’s almost illegal
they only thing that this showed me was that red played like ass lol
Wow this is even more disgusting than I thought!! Nice job Drongo, this is absolutely unexpected.
This really is disgusting 🤣
New to this game. first issue, how to exit or pause game. I shut down the whole system to exit this game. What am I missing?
You can't pause as far as I'm aware in multiplayer, but ESC should work for single-player. Then it becomes quite self explanatory to exit the game.
Amongst other options Alt+F4
Or a more permanent solution:
Open command prompt
Type: format c: /fs:ntfs” and hit “Enter”.
Just press ESC
@@fupopanda ALT+ Esc works. I tried it. IF I'm wrong I will correct this statement. THANKS!
Can't you counter it with siege tower? If you have siege engineering ready beforehand.
whats he gonna put on the wall to fight the china bows? plus iim sure with how he built the gate he can just walk up the gate
Only issue would be amount of infantry count be dropped from tower seem too few for that much zhuge nu, unless hold attention until other infantry can to the gate to climb the wall.
@@hunternunley4003 that's right, he could go up, that's why drongo was holding it with some spears. But also GuA had only horsemen, which can't go up on walls.
Obviously if you play GG the opponent won't have many options. What a moronic opinion. Just don't let the enemy wall around your base.
i dead ass don't see the problem here.
I understand that you want to bring the need for this change to the devs attention, but bombing the ladder may not be the best way to do it...
make siege towers available without the siege engineering and make them take more damage from everything but arrows
Technically, GUA play Abadsid which is already have siege engineer and can build both ram and siege tower after reaching Feudal age, so as long as wood is available, GUA could build siege to counter wall immediately to deal with offensive wall rush.
couldnt you just counter this by building more shit adjacent to the tc?
Nice nice
Great strategy and points made. What about Civs that can passively accumulate stone in the feudel age? Should the Malians not be allowed to use stone they get from the Mansa Quarry? They already cant make castles so it would be pointless to go stone in the feudel.
you can upgrade towers with stone
@@143kiruba cool where do i find that upgrade?
@@jonathancamps9853 in the tower.
also TC
Why dont counter it with siege towers?
in feudal, what you're going to put in a siege tower to kill that bunch of zhuge nu, even if you're english or HRE with MAA the Zhuge Nu in that numbers melt them, and im pretty sure that the Zhuge nu kill the siege tower as well, so, there is no counterplay if your enemy get away with this, only prevention, wich is also difficult if your enemy plays your mind like drongo explain
GUA only build horses , so he won't be able to do anything in this match
Terrible lmfao. Also nice avatar I chose the same one lol
1. Could the strat be enhanced by using a stone tower instaed of a gate?
2. Couldn't the strat be countered by a few rams to demolish one wall segement and make the crossbows vulnarable?
You’d have to see it coming. And China can burst down the rams
Honestly... this strat sucks.
AOE 4 is still too early in its age for players to actually be competitive/smart enough to prevent these strats.
Drongo I appreciate what you are trying to do, but dude, WHY, playing against this build in ladder is literally impossible. You made china, and already broken civ, even more broken and then announced it to the whole world for sweat stains to use to clime ladder this season.
This was fucking amazing looool
GuA went to sleep crying because of this Drongo, are you proud >:[
Definetly a strat to get to top 5 rank thoguh
Drongo single handedly shifting the meta 😂😂
#19 👍
holy cow that a nasty strag
Love it !
Ypu csn actually build the wall with the villagers on the wall fpr extra protection drongo
I saw this live & it was disgusting to see RIP...
good stuff
oh no what have you done
Walls are just too much fun
please do not fix it.
let the 30% to babyrage and leave the game, so we can move to aoe5 (:
Even though this is probably very cheesy and OP I had a lot of fun watching this strat
So what did GUA say about this? 😂😂
this would not work vs hre or english b/c they can send maa up the wall and they would take no dmg from arrows
I stop doing this in random match after people find how to couter this and also the fact that they nerf building time on stone wall make this hard to pull off ( i also can't pull this off with english cause they just got ram so fast )
Sound more like a zhuge nu problem than a stone wall problem
Totally agree with this, stone walls should be Castle and up - rams do do additional damage against walls now which helps somewhat, but they have no business in Feudal at all aside from making long games or cheese like this. My hot take is walls should be removed entirely along with keeps!
The problem is with stone walls in Feudal, not walls (and for some reason keeps) in general.
@@grottoguru6473 currently the ability to put keeps in peoples bases is totally broken. It can totally turn a game from a loss to a win very quickly. Either remove them or make them have a 20 tile radius from a TC they can't be built within.
@@Marknumskull If it truly is as you are saying (which I don't think it is because if keeps were busted like that then that would be the meta, yet its hardly seen) then the answer is to balance it, not blindly remove it.
@@grottoguru6473 I'm going by my experience while playing the game. It's too easy to set keeps in bases - they did try to nerf it a bit with longer build time but still imo not enough.
@@Marknumskull its great to go by experience but you have to temper your experience with logic. The nerf seems to have shifted things a bit as far as keeps are concerned. Its possible they are still a problem. Although from what I've seem in game and watching the game, keeps aren't too much of a cheese problem as they were
Edit: Not saying your experience is null, just pointing out that if most people aren't having the problem then its possible its just a move you may be weak to. I know I am.
i f**king hate those guys on ranked ladder who build stone walls in age 2
Nice
Fooken dirty but a win is a win. GG strat haha.
I have seen the face of evil
Nooooo you reminded people this existed!!!!
I think the main problem was the army of GUA was out of position. If it was in base i doubt this strategy works.
Generally i think it works well with turtling people
"We are down to 13 villagers but my resolves has *never* been stronger!" - Aussie Drongo
since when can Stone Walls be built in feudal?..
Really wish you had kept this to yourself lol. Ladder is already full of people doing your China build, now this one will be everywhere.
Bruh
I see a bunch of Barbican comments below and I'll just say if you are one of the people saying this strat is the same as being rushed with a Barbican then you can go ahead and use stone walls this video is not really meant for your league imo. I am not even criticizing just being honest. If you are diamond or above then you know the difference between stone wall abuse and the barbican rush. Btw watch Beasty's meme video casting "King Romulous'" game who complained about Barbican rushes being OP and he shows you how to beat it.
Do great wall of china strat was discovered since beginning. It is really nasty with English. Does the trick of creating a ramp destroying the end of the still works?
What toxic build!
Of course is ausie drongo....
Great! now I gonna try and end up in Bronze
