  • We get to do a 600 mile towing pull with the 6.7l Cummins Diesel with the travel trailer and compare fuel economy and MPG vs the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor and the 2025 Ram 1500 3.0l Hurricane Twin turbo Inline 6 cylinder to see how they perform. I was shocked by the results but in a good way!

    I try to watch many towing videos, and it's sad how the main topics are sorely missed. Power is easy, and more convenient if you keep within the manufacturer's recommended weights. Safety is the key. RV's should be kept to around 65mph, and while most 1/2 ton will pull some of the largest bumper pull units, the concern is the ability to stop quickly or anchor in cross winds. A HD will give you that extra 1 to 2000lbs of extra vehicle weight over a 1/2 ton, making it that much more difficult for the RV to push the tow.

    Love the idea of the Hurricane for that type of application. However I can almost guarantee if you scaled that truck he would have been over payload by a fair margin. How much will that matter short/long term hard to say, but I played that game and it just made me uneasy enough that I wound up going HD. The peace of mind is super nice regardless of any mileage disadvantages and size...just some food for thought anyway. Happy camping!

    I need to do this test with my 97 ram 1500 then we can track how much they’ve improved, I think it would be cool for a company like ram to bring back the old 2nd gen trucks maybe like a 1500 with the 5.9 and a 2500 with the v10 and put them at a 25k-30k price point for guys who are stating businesses or just people who want a full size truck but can’t afford it but need the power and capacity of a full size truck this would probably sell very well right now

    Too many variables to have an accurate comparison.
    The trailers are not the same.
    The Ram 2500 has been modified with bigger and heavier wheels. Also, has the front suspension been leveled? If so, the impact on aerodynamics makes efficiency worse.
    Also, I have older 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins. I don’t tow faster than 65 mph due the drastic drop in mileage going 70-75 mph. Plus, the faster speeds put more heat into the trailer tires and can increase the risk of tire blowouts.

    @JohnSmith-ev1sm Месяц назад +1

    Why do you think the 2500 still has the relatively tame (hp/torque) 6.4 hemi and not one of the turbos? Duty cycle. These turbos are fine in a charger or minivan but you won't catch me towing heavy/often with one of those whizzers. GM's v8's are absolutely terrible, read the forums, they are blowing out lifters sometimes 2 or 3 times in the same truck. The coyote is definitely better than GM's v8s, but it has had issues with cam phasers and the cylinder liners and now they have an MDS system as well, time will tell. The hemi is a known quantity, it gets broken manifolds (so do the other v8's by the way), and occasionally lifter failure which can be mitigated by running premium oils and changing it every 5k. My hemi isn't going anywhere that's for certain. Parts are cheap and abundant, tuners are everywhere, and if I really wanted more power there is all kinds of support for getting real ("not boosted") power out of these when you build them right.

      I love the Hemis, but these inline 6 motors are better in many ways. I won't be towing much so I'm not worried. Good to see you know to change your oil early.

    • @JohnSmith-ev1sm
      @JohnSmith-ev1sm Месяц назад

      @@CTECH-REVIEW They are NOT interested in boosted HD trucks. Why do you think Ford spent all that money on a 7.3 and 6.8 when the eco boosts put out similar torque and they had it on the shelf for a decade waiting to be used? That little 3.0 inline 6 is a passenger car engine, not a heavy duty engine. It cannot handle the duty cycle/abuse of an HD truck. And yes, note that the 5.7 hemi DID end up in the Ram 2500 as the base engine for years. It did fine, other than being down a little on power.
