The thing about The Alan Parsons Project is it isn’t just one thing or one genre. On Wikipedia it says Progressive rock, art rock, progressive pop, and soft rock. They’re all of those things
Dr. Evil: Anyways, the key to this plan is the giant laser. It was invented by the noted Cambridge physicist Dr. Parsons. Therefore, we shall call it the Alan Parsons Project.
Those are great albums to listen with headphones. All of them. Lots of differents sounds, moods, rhythms, details. And like you guys said, there's nothing that sounds quite like The Alan Parsons Project.
« What is it ? » …. Beautiful, just majestic and symphonic Music that is stuck in your head for years, great songs all over the place and really cool albums in my opinion
I have been a metalhead for 40 years but Iove this band. Their entire catalog is unique. And Tales Of Mystery and Imagination sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Amazing.
Started listening to Alan Parsons back in 1982 , l in the Sky , lucky got to see Alan in Parsons this year and also Toto, Steve Lukather great guitarist
Whenever I talk about my top 10 bands I forget about Alan parsons project but for sure they are on it. I remember hearing “time” when I was a kid before I got into rock. Maybe the first song I ever fell in love with.
Fans of the Alan Parsons Project should make certain they have in their catalog "Freudiana" and "Keats," the two albums without the Alan Parsons Project name that should also be owned to be a true completist. Funny enough, when it comes to the song "Eye in the Sky," Alan Parsons did not think it would be a hit, but Wolfson loved it and insisted on singing it. Alan thought "Gonna Get Your Fingers Burned" should have been the big single off that album.
Well...of course Alan Parsons get mentioned a lot..hence the name of the Project..but still Eric Woolfson wrote close to all material,words/music..except for some instrumentals collaboration with Alan! Woolfson was INDEED the creative musical genius and Parsons the Sonic Wizard and master arranger!❤
One of my all time favorite bands. From the debut to The Turn of a Friendly Card i would call them Progressive pop/Art rock. After that they definitely got more soft rock influences. Love most of their stuff.
I always think the pop sensibility came from using the band Pilot as the core of the session men used on the albums. Dave Paton was even in the Bay City Rollers.
Even the weakest of their albums, Vulture Culture and Gaudi, are still fun to listen too. I also like Stereotomy. Where's the Walrus? is one of my favorite instrumentals of theirs. I think Ammonia Avenue was the last really great album they made, but there's nothing like those first six albums.
FREUDIANA is a great Album by Eric Woolfson as well as the later Alal Parsons & my favorite of the latter is Try Anything Once. My all-time Favorite is I ROBOT. So, no matter what you call it It's GREAT MUSIC.
Tales of Mystery & Imagination wasn't released on United Artists, it was on 20th Century Records, the same label as the first two Ambrosia albums. I also have a UK copy of Tales released on Charisma (as in Genesis and Van der Graaf Generator), of all labels.
APP is art prog, wirh pop thrown in. Alan Parsons had a touch for production, to understate, he made Al Stewart popular (Year of the Cat--thanks to Scot for mentioning that) Another comparison: Steely Dan. Both artists wouldn't tour, and preferred assembling numerous/different musicians for songs/albums
About one hit wonder album! You should review the album from the american band Russia and their album russia….a great progg rock album. Regards from thor sweden
I'm a certified metal head and I love APP. Eye in the Sky, I Robot, Ammonia Avenue are all some of my favorite music out there. Love all of it!

Alan Parsons also produced Steven Wilson’s The Raven That Refused to Sing.

Listen to the bass, its a consistent glue for the whole catalog
Great discussion about Alan Parsons Project. Sea of Tranquility is a terrific channel. My go to for information.

Seen Alan four times over 15 years, 3 times in Montreal (one was a meet and greet) and once in Vegas. They were great! And was a pleasure to meet him.
Great show! Four wonderfully insightful individuals. This is the real deal.
Whatever you want to call The Alan Parsons Project, it is just fantastic music. I have a lot of their albums and dig them to this very day.

Great band that I do not hear many talk about.
I’m surprised the Freuidiana album from 1990 didn’t get a mention. It’s one of the best APP albums but in name.

Don't forget the wonderful Freudiana. It has some of their best material.

Alan Parsons Project, I believe, some was some kind of hovercraft.
They are coming to Long Island in a few weeks!!!

The Sicilian Defence is a good chess opening, though.
The APP were my gateway to prog so the term gateway prog applies.

Good music👍Good vid
Some kind of hovercraft? 😊
I was just coming to say this, lol.
😃👍
FREUDIANA is not bad. You can hear that it was supposed to be a musical but as a record is still sounds good. A bit weird but still good.
