RYAN WIEBER VS. MICHAEL "DORKMAN" SCOTT
What began as a friendly rivalry between two effects artists explodes off TheForce.Net's FanFilms Forum and into the real world in a lightsaber battle royale.
Originally created for the forum's lightsaber choreography competition, this fight to the death will decide once and for all who is truly most skilled with a saber.
There can be only one.

FAQs (from ryanvsdorkman.com)
How did you do those lightsaber effects?
We used Adobe After Effects to rotoscope the prop blades and add glows to them. Essentially the same way ILM does it. After Effects was also used for a variety of other visual effects you see (or don't see) in RvD.
How long did it take you to make this, and when did it come out?
We choreographed and filmed over the course of three weekends, and spent about 4 months on the effects in our spare time, finishing March 1st, 2003.
Did you guys have any martial arts or sword training when you made this?
Neither of us had any formal training of any kind at the time of making RvD. Just watched a lot of movies.
Where was this shot, and what is that thing in the background?
RvD was filmed at Carco Electronics, who built flight simulators for the aerospace industry. The machine in the background is a satellite tracking positioner, the specifications of which were top secret. After the machine was finished being built, it was shipped off to an "undisclosed location".
Where did you get the lightsaber props you guys are fighting with?
The saber props were actually built for this. They were made in several parts using a lathe, mill, and other metalworking tools. Aluminum tubing (like you can find at your local hardware store) were used for the blades.
What kind of camera did you film with?
Canon GL-1 camcorder.
Well done guys! :)
well you can go to the hardware store and buy either aluminum/steel tubing... it isn't that expensive, but it bends a lot... ryan vs dorkman used alluminum
If you want to go with something more durable you could search online for carbonfiber tubes... they are nearly indestructable but cost about 40-60 dollars a piece....
Another option is to get pvc pipes for your blade... it can take a pretty good beating but they will break... they are quite inexpensive...
In the original trilogy the blades were made of carbon rods.
In The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones
they were made of steel rods.
In Revenge of the Sith they were made of
"fibertube" consisting of 3 layers of fiberglass, 3 layers of carbon fiber, and 1 of texalium.
Texalium is aluminum impregnated with glass.
I hope that I answered your question.
well, yeah, but haven't used this acount for more tha a year... I love bionicle an have both (takanuva & makuta), when i created the acoun didn't know what name to use, so i looked at mu desk an saw takutanuva (i combined them that day) and well, that's why...
Well, it kind of helped, but one question still remains for me: How can I get such things, is it possible to buy them in one piece, or were there specially made for the movies??? THX
This one was kinda cool!...nice effects and so on tho...but not did u just make the sound sequence get compared with the scene...its absolute almost perfect ^^...10/10
Really cool..fantastic!!! but in my oint of view, you should make another video with some jedi/sith powers: like jumping, choking, and stuff like that.
this wasn't made by me, as i say in the description, i just uploaded the remastered version.
btw, it's me, takutanuvator is my old acount...
i notice that when ever they let go of there lightsabers they turn off the first time i watched it i didnt care but now its starting to annoy me
Can somebody tell me out of which material the blades in the star wars movies are made??? You know, to fight and make movies with them!
My only real piece of criticism is that I felt like Dorkman was winning that entire time, and then he wins at the end. :P
Very nice use of the different forms within lightsaber combat. Very well done.
imagine all the StarWars movies with fight scenes like that? FUCKING EPIC!
if u wanna watch in hd just put &fmt=18 at the end of the url
