How a V12 LS engine is made

  • In June 2016 we showed you the wild engine creation from the team at V12LS.com. Using two factory OEM aluminium LS1 engine blocks, the guys effectively created a 519ci V12 version of an LS1 engine, and proved this prototype concept on the dyno where it easily made over 700hp. Later that year at The SEMA Show this very same engine was on display in Quality Custom Ride’s 67 Camaro where it proved to be extremely popular.
    Since then this car has undergone further tuning where it cranked out a cool 624hp on a hub dyno along with a strong flat torque curve. This engine still retains stock LS1 pistons and rods along with unported 241 cylinder heads.
    Not resting on their laurels, the V12LS team set about creating a 1-piece block resulting in superior strength and durability. This required a complete ground up design incorporating 3D core printing and pattern making. Available in both aluminium and cast iron, this block pictured is a 4.125in LSX bore size, giving a displacement of 9.5L or 580 cubic inches.
    The future looks promising with LS7 style heads just around the corner, the next goal is to push past the naturally aspirated 1000hp mark on pump fuel using a forged rotating assembly from JE Pistons. One question we know a few will be asking is will we see a boosted version going forward? The short answer is... YES!
    These engines are available in both a turn key deal or a builder package. For more information check out www.V12LS.com

      Much harder to get the same performance per displacement on a larger engine because the operating velocities of the parts has increased considerably but the construction materials haven't changed. If you scaled the hayabusa design up to 10L the pistons would probably melt and the cam lobes get chewed off at 10K rpm. Seen many ship engines doing 10K rpm lately?

    GM built a 702cuin, V12 in 1960. 225hp but an incredible 650+ ftlbs of torque at only 2500rpm.
    It was a small production used in fire trucks and large trucks. A few can still be found but parts are almost nonexistent. There is a company that will build one up for you but plan on that wallet spitting out around $60K.
    They sounded good tho.

      Considering you can get about 380wheel on pump gas out of a k27, you are looking at 760+ out of the v8 naturally aspirated. And the K's make torque at idle already.

    MMmmm... I like it. Most Aussie cars were built to accept a straight 6 or a V8, so they have the length and the width. I reckon it'd go really nice in a VB C'dore... Can you imagine a 1,400kg car with that in it? Get the Aluminium version and it probably wouldn't be much heavier than an old school 350 Chev, and the CoG would be lower than a straight 6... Putting a decent radiator in might be a bit of a tight fit.

    That's not a torque curve, that's a torque table! LMAO.

    Are these the same guys that made the quad turbo lsv16 for the 'devel 16' that supposedly cranked out 5000hp?

    Coolest thing is watching them break the sand mould to expose the raw casting. Well done lads. 1000BHP at that engine size will be not much trouble with twin cam 4V heads... You've already cast a block...

      @Nordic_Mechanic 7 лет назад

      I agree, LSs need 4V

      manitoublack Then it would just be another modern v12. The whole point is that its a SBC and it has pushrods.

    • @charlieschieldt8456
      @charlieschieldt8456 7 лет назад

      manitoublack it’s cast for pushrods tho, so it’d have to be re-developed for ohc

    • @manitoublack
      @manitoublack 7 лет назад

      Toyota have fitted TC heads to pushrod blocks in the past. The cam and pushrod spaces just end up unused. Even the current Bently V8 block is a largely unchanged Rolls Royce 6.25L P.R block.
      Point being, it's a big deal, but not that a big deal.

    For those considering this engine, a turn key is $46,200! I was thinking about shoving one into my K5 Blazer mud truck until I saw that price, only way I'd be able to do that is if they sponsored me. Be a perfect platform for testing, hint hint
