    From the trailer alone, to people saying it’s inaccurate consider this:
    The events themselves are probably not.
    However, the portrayal of Sissi’s emotions, how she must’ve felt in each moment, probably the most spot on.
    It’s not a documentary in the sense of the events and timeline being accurate.
    This portrayal is an emotional documentary, it’s art. Appreciate it for what it is.

      totally agree - I think the empress is just a vehicle to make a movie about the wider experience of being a woman throughout history. There are little nods to modernity (her tattoos, neon lighting, modern doors, I even spotted plastic mopping bucket!) that make me think she isn't just a singular character, rather a timeless one. I could be totally off, though!

    The movie was Perfect, it shows her longing for love and romance that dwindled long time ago, she seeks comfort with other men who would not touch her despite of her beauty, due to her status. The adoration, vanity and as proclaimed as one of the most beautiful Monarch took a toll on her. In the end, she has everything and completely has nothing at all at the same time. How tragically beautiful. 😢❤

      Yeah but the issue is that movies that brand themselves as historical but contain a lot of false information end up spreading a lot of misinformation because most people are not going to look into what is real and what is not. The blending of fact and fiction can be dangerous. Also these were real people that lived, to me it is somewhat disrespectful to falsely represent their lives. Edit: the majority of people that watch this movie will tale what is shows at face value.

    Elizabeth of Austria was an intelligent and complex woman, but also utterly selfish. She wanted to have all the advantages of her high position, but didn't want to give anything back to people. She just wanted to live isolated and travel all the time with her race horses.

    • @jflo2023
      @jflo2023 2 года назад +70

      It is written that Elisabeth became physically ill when living under the constraints of the Habsburg household and a domineering mother-in-law, who removed each of her first 3 children from her after they were born, not allowing her to be a mother to them. Doctors recommended that she lived elsewhere to improve her health, and apparently, her health did improve when she was away from the palace. It was common for those who could afford it, to travel to warmer climates to recuperate.
      In today's terms, it would seem that Sissi may have had what we now know to be an eating disorder, which as we know brings all kinds of health issues with it. She stopped eating after the death of her 2 yr old daughter and became depressed, never to recover, the depression and melancholy was compounded by a string of personal losses that included the murder-suicide of her son and his partner, the suicide of her cousin and her sister burning to death in a fire. Both of Franz's brothers died, young Karl died after drinking infected water and Max was shot by a firing squad, his wife Carlotta lost her mind.
      There doesn't appear to be anything written to substantiate that Elisabeth was selfish, but she was shy which can sometimes be mistaken for being distant, so I am unsure what information you are using to determine this evaluation.
      From all accounts, it seems that she was simply doing her best to survive what life had put in front of her. It is documented that she had a kind and altruistic nature, influencing her husband to be merciful. It is also documented that she was one of the most charitable queens, as a young girl she was known for visiting peasants, and as Empress, she took time to care for battle-wounded soldiers, amongst other reports of benevolence. None of what I have read about this person indicates that she was in any way selfish.

      So a lot of period dramas interpreted it like the women's fashion magazines were an honest and accurate indication of how people behaved.
      Others see those articles as social commentary and would be very surprised if it was actually the behavior.
      With regards to what comes out of a work book. Well.... they are manuals for work. It's outlining the way people are expected to act in a professional environment. Not really how people actually were.
      I find it hard to believe that the famous Victorian Etiquette was anything other than social commentary from the times. Not actually documentation of everyone's behavior. The way it's written makes it sound like it. I feel the 1950s was more strict, and probably a bit nicer, than this era.

    Not to dis the actress I just don't think she looks anything like the real like empress. She had the mother in law from hell and her husband was a moma's boy. He loved her but she was 15 and a free spirit and never loved him. Sad life. She was forced to marry him because he was an emporer. Can't turn down one of those.

Far exceeds the runtime that it earns. Uninspired writing and filmmaking. The movie wants you to feel sympathy for a mildly-inconvenienced privileged member of royalty who behaves like garbage. For real? You don't like Sissi? Why don't you think she cared? Plus as for her son, she wasn't allowed to raise her children herself and was separated from them. Not even her husband stopped the situation, and she was still young when they got taken from her, so I don't think she was a bad mother. She just wasn't allowed to be there for her children as much as she wanted. It affected her and them; that's what I read. I think you should be angry at the mother-in-law, not Sissi.

    • @reniasva
      @reniasva 2 года назад +11

      @@greatminds1017 See, you believe in the movies.
      Over time, the empress became so self-centered, that she slapped her maids when they combed her and a single hair was lost.
      No one of her status was allowed to raise their children 24/7, but she was rather cold to the first two.
      Her mother in law wasn't that beast she described. We know that from letters.
      She loved to torture her older ladies in waiting by running so fast, that the older women couldn't keep up and sometimes collapsed. Her beauty cult was expensive, she refused to do the one job she was supposed to, ran away to fancy holidays whenever she felt like it (faking illness) and tried to come off as a republican while being entitled as fuck.
      Rudolph cried at christmas day 1888 and wanted to talk to her, but she refused and told him to man up. He shot himself a month later. And she was a horrible in-law to Stephanie of Belgium, bc she hated every woman that was younger than her.
      No human is entirely good or bad, but Sisi wasn't the romantic royal rebel, she was a deeply flawed woman who loved her status, but refused all duties that came with it.
      She wrote rather dull poems about freedom and now everybody thinks she was a prisoner, yet she was not.
      Romy Schneider played Sis one more time in the seventies for the movie about Louis II. of Bavaria with Helmut Berger and her depiction of a cynical vain woman, gossipping and laughing about others is far more accurate this time. You can find the clips here on RUclips.
