I’m gonna add on to this, I want to say this video is the next addition to the 1995 series. This video takes place with Luigi arriving at the castle in hopes to find Mario. Luigi finds Mario, but Mario is different.
I like this a lot! I've always felt that a huge part of SM64 horror (along with other games like those in the Source Engine) was the environmental uncanny valley - primitive geometry that feels like it could be a tangible location but falls just short of full believability. In other words, for me, the "kicker" for the empty, surreal, primitive halls and chambers of the castle was always the idea of literally waking up trapped inside a physical (yet stylistically literal) manifestation of that world myself. That, along with all the "Is anyone there? ...Or maybe I should hope not?" horror tropes seen within traditional Backrooms stories. And the merging of these two subgenres seen in this video realize that perfectly! I'd love to see more content just like this.
Sure, I recorded a video with my phone, I used After Effects and used motion tracking, then I imported the camera movements to Cinema 4D, where I modeled the rooms and added lighting, ect.
