  • “Interview is so subjective.” If the government were to ask Dr. Vikas Divyakirti to recommend changes to the UPSC exams, this is what he’d say. Write it down. ‪@RanveerAllahbadia‬

The only 2 possible reasons for the "hard" exam pattern is
    1. Increase in the competition, and finding possibilities how to eliminate them rather than select the appropriate ones.
    And/ or
    2. Sadistic pleasure derived by paper setting section

(Objectively speaking) plus Reservations being too high (not against it, but needs to be rationalised). 60% reservation for mere 1000 jobs leaves only 400 posts for merit. That needs to be changed. Either the vacancies need to increase or reservations need to be rationalised (around 20-25%)

Decision making is important to judge candidate for their application based skill set. Hats off to XAT to have a dedicated section for this subject.

    1. Its simple business strategy, not only UPSC but all the exams.
India has the highest youth population and there is a another level of obsession with Government Jobs. So, number applicants will be higher as much as you can think, even for 1 post vacancy, there are 1000+ candidates. So, the application fees helps them to earn.
    2. Government will not interfere by any means unless there is a harm on their vote bank or public demand. Plus, it boost the economy too. How, coaching institutes, Travel appliances and other things.
    3. High number of applicants means, a lot of competition which decides the level of exam. Most of thr questions will be given to make sure that most of the candidates can't do, so no need to stress on evaluation. Questions will be asked based on the competitive level not based on the job profile. Although, the syallabus is based on the job profile, so thats count.
    4. Again there is no need to stress on how many applicants will be coming. Because of the people mindset, anyone state that they can do UPSC is Just the bad luck or their life is incomplete if they didn't appear in any of such exams.
According to me, its fine that you do or try such exams but don't let these exams decide your future. Because whats the point of keep trying for years and years and still no response and even if you did after the hard work of a lot of years than whats the point of doing so unless you really a passion of it. I don't find problem if you have passion of anything, because if you do have than it doesn't matter either it even takes your half of your life years but if you are not passionate and doing just to pretend that you're doing something from trend or because of others than i think you should stop and get some rest. Because anything is not for everyone and everyone is not for everything.

Syllabus and subjects should be same for all the aspirants

UPSC is just like any other Exam....
People are giving importance more than their life this sets very bad precedence in our society.Govt. must step up certain steps just like eligibility age must be reduced to 25.
So,that people can do other thing in life.

    1. I do not agree with CSAT recommendation
    2. Agree with interview recommendation
Overall, I think these are very small changes, the entire recruitment process should change drastically, with ministeries conducting their own regulated recruitments, even for IAS.
Even the police requires specialists. UPSC should conduct multiple specialised exams (slightly like SSC does) for each subject.
It should be like GATE. Specialised.
Sir said why is Maths needed. I ask, why is anything needed ? Do you think ANYthing in the syllabus actually helps in the actual job ?
It is just a random selection of subjects, that most people do not disagree with.

After watching 12th fail, one thing that caught my attention was the panel of interviewers.
    - The people at the top do not know what is happening at the ground level. They are unaware that many villages have the problem of cheating in exams.
    - They have a prejudice against hindi speakers. They also have prejudice against non science students.
    - They are recruiting people who say yes sir, yes sir. People who have different POV are considered arrogant.
As an Indian I feel that Manoj never failed. It is our system that failed. Our people at the top have failed.

You have no idea what they are asking. Unless you seriously sit in CSAT, you won't know. They are asking hardcore maths questions, that too mostly from 4-5 topics belonging to number systems. Even the English comprehension passages have become problematic- too short paragraphs and too vague questions. Civil services don't need mathematicians, economists and historians. They need administrators.
