2 of the best concerts I have ever seen were the 2 times I saw Luther Allison in Toledo. What an entertainer and musician. Ferocious live performer. Such a shame he was taken by cancer when he was finally getting the recognition his talent deserved.
My favorite concert moment ever was in London Ontario in the late 80's-Luther and Bernard played Mingles, a small club with no bad seats. We had front row and when it began, the band was on stage and Luther was soloing but nowhere to be seen. He was wireless and he walked up to the front, jumping from table to table until he got to ours where he launched himself onto the stage. In one song he broke two strings, segued into a harmonica solo while his guy came and switched guitars. Seamless.
Thank you so much for posting this vid! Wish someone would have filmed the entire "Live in Chicago" show, but this certainly gives us a glimpse of the power and the passion that Luther gave us all. KEEP THE BLUES ALIVE!!!!!
Used to visit our town back in the 70's. The dude had a hundred foot cord and would leave the stage a play in the middle of Main Street. Amazing talent and entertainer. Sorely missed.
This song captures so much of what I felt at one time. It's what songs like Steppenwolf's The Pusher and Country Joe and the Fish's Crystal Blues were trying to be. A wonderful talent gone too soon. Zarie
Jonny Lang toured with Luther. My best friend played bass for Luther at the time in the mid 70's. He also died recently, as Luther did, in Madison Wi w/ brain cancer. Hope they are both jamming together. What a talent and entertainer!
somewhere in the mid 80s I saw SRV playing NSJ The Hague. Next on the same stage was LA (LA jr also playing along). First thing he said: 'It's a great honour to be in the same line up with Stevie Ray Vaughn'. He had great respect for RSV. Both concerts were fabuloso. I think SRV even showed up jamming with Luther sr. But I'm not sure about that one. On festivals like that you get such an abundance of impressions and epic shit (same night Miles). and I got a bit strunk.
Lets see. SRV died in 1990. This was recorded in 1997. SRV played Fender Strats (all the tuning nobs on one side). That white guitar is not a Fender Strat (tuning knobs on both sides). Yeah, that is SRV alright. [turns off sarcasm]
The best show I ever saw....rock, punk, blues or otherwise and one of the nicest people I ever met....RIP Luther.
This man had nothing but PURE love for the music, it showed in his playing, the truth came out of him!.
loved women too. all his lyrics have respect and love
Luther!!! The true barometer of Chicago Blues. The king!
Best entertainer of any genre I've seen live.

No love for Luther? This man was as bad as any of them: a brilliant guitarist and an amazing vocalist. This man was a national treasure.

Sometimes he would ride on Tate's shoulders while walking through the crowd.
Saw this also.."she Will Coming Around The Moutain"..SIU 1970
Jonny Lang does a blistering take on this too !!!!
That's why he plays Barefoot?
Luther was the real deal !!!!!!!!!!!!! I got lucky and saw his last two SoCal performances : ) at BB Kings and HOB Sunset .

@DieselFire720 That's deffinitely not SRV...It's James Solberg...it would have been great to see the two of them playing together though.

@DieselFire720 Nope, its James Solberg
longer version (with "living in the house of the blues" as second song) is here:

Nice-looking axe that second guy is playing. Semi-hollow?
What guitar is james solberg playing here?
Was wondering the same thing. Looks like a Ibanez Artcore, but one f-hole? Don't know.
He quit smoking and drinking and was dead within two years. He was the best.
Jimmy was OK too.

That's James Solberg
That's clearly not Stevie Ray Vaughan, but damn Morgan Freeman sure plays a mean guitar. XD
Luther was only great. And he must gone too early.
So early.My god..... why..
