    Good information. Thank you!

You're welcome! I will be coming out with another video for a deep dive into how to actually determine your inlay parameters using the new inlay toolpath, and traditional paths that I hope will be a little more universal, since many people are getting vastly different results, even when using the settings that I have had work for me. Thanks for watching!

That will be cool. I have gone back to the traditional way of doing the inlays. I can’t get consistent results using the Vectric software inlay. I hope you have a great week!

Good video pushing things further to dial in the best way/ways of doing this. Did you end up surfacing off the excess plug material? Would have been nice to see if the loose fit on the new inlay toolpath had visible glue gaps. Increasing both glue and surface gaps would drop the plug in further and tighten up the fit. I'm running an excessive surface gap on mine, but that was both to clear the ridge that I'm seeing on the plug from the TBN and because I'm trying something I haven't seen yet for repeat pieces. I'm making more of that mountain cutting board and have the plug blank for the snow starting at 2-1/2" thick, planning after the glue sets up to cut through the gap with multi tool and pullsaw, stick it back down and surface it flat to go again with another plug (should get 4 from that blank). It's about the same amount of time to cut and glue up a thick plug blank as a thin one, so if it works as it should there will be a huge time savings as so far I'm spending way more time processing material into end grain stock than I am running the cnc... 🙄

Thanks for suggesting going full depth. Definitely going to do it in the future as well. the loose fit, and for vcarve inlay toolpath is able to be seen in the original video I did comparing traditional parameters vs the new vcarve inlay toolpath: ruclips.net/video/ekcYssMjSzo/видео.html
I am having to wonder if the ridge that you see is being caused by something else. I will be experimenting more. Maybe the glue gap/top gap you are doing in imperial units is causing the ridge, but I can't confirm unless I try to work out your settings. Can you give me your vcarve inlay toolpath settings in inches? Thanks again for watching and for supporting the channel! Hopefully this video sends a few more folks your way too!

@@tk.designs It's not just me seeing that ridge, when I started using the new toolpath and having issues I searched around and found it to be a common problem. What I've yet to figure out is why you aren't seeing the same thing. You are zeroing all bits on the material surface, yes? Gap settings shouldn't affect it, I get the ridge no matter the gaps and just increased surface gap enough to make sure it get down to the material surface. I'll have to go back and rethink the whole interaction to make sure my understanding is correct and didn't miss something, but for now what really matters for me is I found settings that make the new toolpath work.
I had seen your first video on the new toolpath also and the loose fit, did you use the same settings for glue and surface gaps this time? In this video you showed glue gap of .5mm and surface gap of 1.5mm, which equate to .019 and .059 inches and are very tight compared to what I'm running. I started at .065/.065 with which the plug bottomed out and the fit was too loose, and worked my way up to current settings of .120 glue and .200 surface gap (3.05 and 5.08 in funny numbers... 😀), with the surface gap being larger than necessary but left that way for the reasons I mentioned above. Since you are seeing a different result from the bit and not getting that ridge, along with a pretty decent though slightly loose initial fit, you shouldn't need to go that big. If you want to run another test set it up like you did here but all with the new VCarve Inlay toolpath and go 1mm/2mm, 1.5mm/2.5mm, and 2mm/2.5mm. You already have the .5mm/1.5mm example, but if want the best visual presentation throw that one in front so they are all in a row in the section cut of the board. My guess is either the 1mm/2mm or 1.5mm/2.5mm will seat tightly with the proper glue gap.. 🤔

Yes, I zero from the top of the material, and my Shapeoko Bit-Setter re-does the zero on every tool change. I use 1.5 for the surface gap, and 0.5 for the glue gap for every inlay I have done using the vcarve inlay toolpath. It is definitely a bit loose, but there is no gap that I have noticed, and the cuts seem to be very consistent through the first several projects I've done with the new toolpath.
I am going to do an extensive testing video, which I hope to have out by the end of this week, or perhaps the start of next week.
I want to try to do a deep dive into the new toolpath, as well as traditional vcarve toolpaths for inlays. The goal is to develop a strategy that does not rely on a certain bit, or certain parameters.
I want to develop the method so anyone can repeat the tests, and come up with what works best for them, kind of like what you have done. Thanks for sharing your insights with me! I certainly appreciate it!

Thanks a lot for your great Inlay videos. i am doing finer details than in your example and I just cannot get a good result using vcarve inlay for the plug. I can use vcarve for the pocket and pocket toolpath for the plug and change my z 0 from 14.3mm to 13.8mm. it is close to perfect, but leaving 1.5mm gluegap. I am using Amana 46280, bit will try the 5.2deg SpeTool that you use.

I followed this video up with a deep dive into the v-carve inlay toolpath using both bits above. The video is here: ruclips.net/video/oEmTH3y9LsE/видео.html Hopefully this helps. Unfortunately it seems that there is no real magic formula that works consistently with even the same bit when performed on different machines. Please let me know if the video helps.
