I'm also concerned about the initial lack of official mission sets. That said, if AMG does something squirrely, or doesn't do anything soon enough, I feel confident that the community will take care of itself in terms of custom scenarios. Store-based competitive folks won't be into that, but the gates are sort of wide open for home club possibilities.
Can't wait for this game to land in my country! I really like that it is not like 95% of other skirmish games. It forces you to not just think about killing (often even part of taking objectives in other games) - but about area control, unit utility (both because how hard it is to kill stuff and random activation), conditions / synergies (doing stuff outside unit activation) and more of a CCG type of approach to the overall strategy (again vs other games that is mostly planning or strategic planning OR think euro game vs COIN system / Twilight struggle)...
I agree with a lot of your thoughts. I just finished building my models yesterday and you do have to be careful with those lightsabers for sure. As for narrative or other game modes, in Marvel Crisis Protocol they have Ultimate Encounters which are multiplayer 1 vs many or co-op with an AI opponent that are more narrative scenarios. I definitely think they'll do that same thing with Shatterpoint. All we can do is wait and see, but I do agree they need more struggles and I'm sure it will be a card pack.
OK. You sold me. I am going to the flgs to pick it up today. Unrelated: I absolutely love your trees. I've been having trouble finding ones that are scaled well for larger minis. Don't suppose you know which ones they are or where you got them?
Some of the trees I made (detailed towards the end of this video): ruclips.net/video/7t8BqNiauvk/видео.html The "pine tree" looking ones I just bought at like a Michaels or Dollar Store or something. :)
Looks very good gameplay-wise, but I can't justify it when I own nearly all those same models in Legion already. I've had too many Star Wars collections go into the closet and die between West End Games, WotC, Imperial Assault, then Legion. I hope the people that get Shatterpoint will enjoy it, but I'll be skipping this one. Great review at least, maybe if I can find the components as PnP I'll give it a whirl with Legion models
I'm enjoying Blackstone Fortress purchased becuase of your reviews. Owned and sold Gloomhaven JOTL, Zombicide Greenhorde, and Imperial Assault. Much prefer Blackstone Fortress. I wish they made a Star Wars solo / coop minitures game. I did not like the app in Imperial Assault, nor the lack of agency. Is there a way to combine the rules of Blackstone Fortress with Star wars mini's and character cards? thanks again, Joel.
only downside, imo, is the release schedule. it feels kinda slow for a new star wars. at least it's no armada or legion with no releases beyond the core box for months after launch.
I only learned about this game recently, but I am very curious to try it. Bummer about the brittle lightsabers.
I’ve seen people talk about this but at my flgs of 30 people playing this no one has said anything about it yet
Totally missed this vid, exactly what I was looking for. Excellent job as always, much appreciate your thoughts on gaming!
Glad you enjoyed!

@@DriveThruReview Thanks so much! Your the best. Can't tell you how much I appreciate your content.
Great video! Excited to check it out
One year later. How about it? There is a mission pack and dozens of new squads. Did it hold up?
Not for me. Still didn't have enough narrative.

I also have imperial assault and love it thoroughly. I'm glad that reviews say shatter point distinguishes itself from imperial assault

Probably, but only with extensive work!
Great video!
I am Commander Cody!!!
You are though. My mistake.
@@DriveThruReview Ha!
Initially I had zero interest in a crisis protocol for star wars, but it's so much more than that
/frantically googles 'copacetic'
