HaHa so true!!! Jimmy's world is an awesome channel. Can't believe how fast his channel has grown as he only had a couple thousand subscribers at best when I joined a few months ago.
Dude look I am an AP (Airframe and Powerplant mechanic AKA aircraft mechanic) trust me that bird will NEVER FLY AGAIN!! It would have to be completely disassembled to check for granular corrosion and other types of corrosion. The engine alone may cost 35k for new and maybe 23k for a rebuild. etc... I'm sure it's made out of 2024t3 aluminum. Which is good against corrosion and rust. I own a Mooney m20 series plane. If I wasn't an AP the AD or (airworthiness directives) would have killed me in costs. I did a total restore on that plane and I mean I took most the skin off of it to inspect the airframe structure. Took me 2 years to do it between working as an AP at an airport. I'm sure if you want to pay an AP to restore that plane you gonna need about 175k that's the minimum. The next thing is finding an AP that will take on a job like that which you probably will never find.....Good luck tho
I am a mechanic as well so that no struggle for me to find a mechanic to take the job on I will simply just do it my self with my free time. I also am working on to being and I&A (Airframe Inspection) which you have to be to approve of structural work and as well as annuals. Although this rebuilding looks impractical it isn’t with time money and the right resources. Thanks for watching!!
Hey man great video!! dont be discouraged by these other know it alls!!! I took a 1980 172 that sat for 26 years and put it back in airworthy condition. Its amazing how paint does not make an airplane fly. Trees and other vegitation can be hacked away with a simple weedeater.. and the fact that all this vegitation is growing up does not necessarily mean that the aircraft is ruined.
It's probably a moot point, but this 172 could not be any newer than 1970 because it still has the spring steel landing gear. Cessna switched to tubular steel main gear with the '71/'72 model year. it's hard to tell, but the instrument panel layout looks like the early to mid-sixties, too. This airplane has probably been refurbished, but it's still a lot older than the 1980s.
It’s an 1970 with a lycoming o-320 and the tubular gear in a on RG’s and this is a fixed gear only the spring is used for fixed gear not tubular. the tubular gear is still used to this day for RG’s only.
@@jacobgibson7210 Hi, Jacob. Sorry if my comment was off base, but I thought you said the owner told you it was an 80s-era 172. Cessna eventually converted all of its singles to the tubular gear. I learned to fly on the slab-steel gear, though: a 150 then a 182. Ah, happy memories.
The Cessna tubular gear or torsion bar gear is covered in a sheet metal fairing on all the fix gear 71's & up singles. The Cardinal RG's also have a uncovered tubular gear.
A airport that is still being used is not a Abandon Airport. I will call BS on ever getting that plane to fly again, it will cost you more to get it flying than it will to buy a flying one..
what is the name of this airport? That old Piper is beyond help. There is something called an AD (airworthiness directive) that must be complied with. On this plane, there are many. It would cost WAY more than it's worth to get airworthy again. Simply too much abuse. Even if the panel (dashboard) was intact it wouldn't fetch much money. It's a dinosaur. The engine and prop may fetch a few bucks. You might get lucky and find a buyer for parts for his or her plane. The engine is not locked up. You would have not been able to move the prop. It sounded like the starter was engaged with the flywheel when you did move it. It would be fun to play with tho. Cheers from Louisiana.
You got a like and sub from me. What's the long term plan? Just get it running or eventually flying.? Anything is possible but getting that old Piper in the air will cost a fortune. Either way, all the best of luck to you sir. 👍
@@jacobgibson7210 wish I was near you to lend a hand. A small matter of a couple of thousand miles of ocean getting in the way though 😂 Will certainly be following your progress.
just pull up with a trailer at night and take it. Closed airport, abandoned airplane, salvage rights apply. But yeah there is an AD which will make the plane too expensive to repair, hence everybody is robbing from it.
@Jacob Gibson yes I know how expensive planes are. There's a lot of videos on RUclips of exactly what you're trying to do, and they all talk about the prices. The difference is that they are building the planes and crying about how expensive the parts are lolol 🙃 😅
@Nick Carroll I watched a cat video that had 1.4 million likes and 10k followers hummmm, but in the 🐈 video, they weren't asking for likes to make another video lolol
All you need is fuel, jumper cables to a good battery and a Jimmy's World "Clear Prop" and she'll be flying in no time! GL and a like to help you on your way!
You are rollerbolling, nothing will happened, bull shit!
Look at the last videos I currently have a plane and working on the deal for the other one. But thanks for the input
even jimmys world would walk away from tht one lol

@@michaelb.8953 Clear Prop!
Nah.. he would probably fly that Mooney home…
If it’s an abandoned airport, is it for sale? Could make it into a fly-in community!

9KY9 Combs airport
I'd keep it as a ground toy to mess around with when I can't fly, or don't want to. It'd be fun to taxi around my fields with it
This abandoned plane hidden in the bushes - will it start with a new battery?
So this is “Abandoned Airplane Simulator” IRL!!??
The work you do is amazing
You do not want that plane unless you're going plant flowers in it. It is dead
I'd leave the first plane where it sits. A mess!
A little oil, A little little bondo, and a lot of Duct tape! 😁
Obviously a aviation genius with a keen eye for detail.

Hey go for it. If you get enough likes, make it work. Best of luck.
I'd try getting it running for a bit of fun but you won't get it back in the air just taking one look at it.
Please finish what you saying before you go on to next part of video, you did it twice is in video, and please know I’m not trying offend you!
Keep up the good work man

hi cool is it for sale i wondering i love to find a abandoend place for sale
Check out Jimmy World, he just rescued the same kind of Beechcraft a few months back. He will help you get it started and in the air.
The props are worth a lot of money…
Sad it was allowed to get in that condition
There has got to be much, much, much cheaper was to fly if you want to.
Is that a Piper Cherokee?
No
looks like a Beechcraft Sundowner
I mean with enough money you could get it flying lol
That 172 is nowhere near a mid 80s. know your planes.
I am small youtuber too
Heading over with my trailer.
Wish he could bring it back to life? And he can with all of our help ? What the hell do we have to do with it?
Jimmy world.. From Jimmys lesson do not touch this plane. Find a better plane to restore a barn find.
Larry's 172 is a 1970
Not a piper, looks like a Beech by the intake and windshield
Beechcraft sundowner
