From someone who hurt their back lifting something heavy while bending over, young and didn't think, get your self an engine lift or something like that to put those engines into those frames. I was working as a hod carrier and reached over and picked up two bags of cement at 94lbs per bag and my back has never been the same. I was 20 years old at the time and strong as hell, I weighed 154lbs and could pick up 4 five gallon buckets of mortar and carry them. I started working as a hod carrier for my dad at around 10 and nobody taught me how to properly lift nor stressed the importance of lifting properly. Still at the end of the day it was my decision to move those two bags at once instead of doing it one at a time. Either way I deal with daily back pain now so be smart and be careful with your back.
I purchased the 459cc for a golf cart I'm doing. Haven't mounted it yet, but I'm super excited based on the videos you have up. The one part I really need is the exhaust header! I'm not really going away from stock except to the air intake and exhaust (due to space requirements).
Great content as always, your banter and craziness cracks me up! The videos where you guys are just having fun are the best. Can’t wait for the next deuce video.
I liked your comparison video. I am really excited to see the videos on the performance parts videos. Thanks. Just so you know, I watch most of Cars and Cameras videos and I think you are far ahead on construction, fabrication, shop efficiency, and almost all respects of a little engine shop. That is one reason that I am a patreon of "Red Beard's Garage".
Note the Yellow spring on the rear driven pulley. if it inward facing it would be a red spring. They usually come with red springs but tend to have more clearance when run this way outward. Not an issue with the kit but I have always made my own jackshaft holder for the rear driven because i am cheap lol. Its a pain. and tensioning the belt vs the chain is a pain too the cheap way. always needed a chain tensioner which makes more noise and places to fail and they do.
Driver is on backwards…. Which people tend to do on the 40 converters. This is mentioned a few times below in the comments and is true. The driver is fine to be mounted “backwards” just shim the driven to line up.

On the surface, I wouldn’t want either one for my kart. That cart was creeping through the woods. That’s the kind of power for maybe an 11-15 yr olds. I do understand the video for the sake of comparison and thanks for that. I freaking love your channel
When you went up the road and it hit the governor. I would say, it was where the cvt didn't push the belt up quick enough so it was in its lower gear for pulling off thn hit the governor and that split second the belt did it's thing and "changed gear" moved from small on the engine to moving up to change gears and gets smaller on the other end for top speed. On a scooter it has rollers in the variator pully on the engine and you can change the weight of thm witch will change whn it starts moving the belt so you're able to keep it at an rpm where the power band is for full power💯💯💯👍👍👍👌👌
Great Video, I think you definitely need to get Rid of the Governor. I have a Brand New 420cc Predator Engine that has sat in my Garage for 3 Years. I need to find a Go Csrt Frame for it. I would love to find a old Honda Oddesy Frame. I would also like to buil up the Engine. Thanks for the Video.
At the very least, if you're trying to cut down on wind noise while recording, for the go pro, they make a simple foam housing that does a pretty solid job of cutting down on wind noise. Or if you're handy with foam carving, you can make your own for cheap. It's not one of those items that go pro really advertises, but it's worth trying out
This video really surprised me. I used to have a little 1 seater with a bone stock 212 on it and the governor shut it off right around 40 and it had about the same acceleration as the stock 420 on that cart. It's crazy to see how big of a difference tire size, weight and gearing can really make with these small engines. I'd love to have that 459 on my old go kart lol
I just bought a 459 yesterday It's going in my ez go gxt-804. Glad i saw this video The original 2 cylinder in the cart was terrible. Best way to run a pulse pump?
You should build a Dyno! You can use a motorcycle disc brake, or a large car alternator, or two, with the output shorted through a heating element, in water. and the brushes powered by a variable power supply, to vary load, the brake disc is the most simple,. And then a load cell and laptop, robot cantina has one, you should build one, or a large water pump, with a valve to restrict flow. About anything that will put a steady load on the engine, that will not overheat.. then you can make videos testing parts on engines for gains! Seems like someone mentioned a diy open source kit or something, to build a Dyno, then you can truly compare these engines!!

I liked my built 212 compared to my 420 which had stiffer springs and 34 mm mikuni just for the fact my 212 had the black mamba can and never stopped revving up, pretty sure past 10,000 rpms. Wasnt as fast off the line but would smoke the 420 in the long run
@@caseG80 I don't know about you guys but pretty often for me, thats why I'm building a street legal 440cc 2 speed bike that should do more than 100 mph and cruise around 70 mph just to keep up with traffic. What I meant with that comment tho is after a long distance it doesn't have to be 100 miles I was just making an example of a long distance. Those 212cc run good but push them a little hard and it'll crap itself
For a large pressure washer you think it would be worth the extra money for the 459? Or just stick with the 420 I’ll definitely be pushing the limits of a typical 13hp engine with the pump I’m going with.
Both definitions are correct cvt or torque converter . Torque converter transmits torque from the engine to the driven load which is exactly what it is doing on this go cart or a minibike .

That CVT isn’t set up to operate optimally. I know it kinda doesn’t matter since ya set it up the same on both engines. The way you’ve (go power sports) has it set up, the driver pulleys sheath, and driven pulleys sheath, are operating in opposing action. Meaning the driver sheath is moving one direction and the driven sheath another, they should move together in same direction, it isn’t a tav 2 … this is wrong according to comet and physics. Love the videos though.

How come this new sport is made around torque converters and centrifugal clutches instead of manual transmissions and standard (motorcycle) clutches? Seems like it'd be more fun with a clutch pedal and a 4 or 5 speed manual motorcycle-type transmission. Would be better for hill climbs, crawling at low speeds, and fuel economy.

As I've said in another video, where the 224 & 212 were compared: I'd say the torque curve was the deciding factor in the results.
