i feel like ive seen quite a few portable famicom and nes projects lately, its super cool to see peoples different ideas and designs, and i myself, tinkering on a spare famicom board on and off for about a year, so many design iterations... seeing all these is very inspiring and giving me new ideas.. seeing the parts used like the lcd helps a ton!
Are there really that many famicom portables being made? That's cool. Id love to see how yours turns out. This is the first one I've seen that uses an actual famicom and plays real hardware there are many clone handheld devices out there that do the same but this is the first one I've seen that used an actual "famicom"
@@ScruffyLookinRGB ive seen on ebay one someone made with a similar form factor, it looked like it was made off of a famicom board since theyre so easy to get ahold of and mess with, but it was made for nes carts so it had to be a bit bigger for them. mine i plan to have a removeable back that i can swap between a famicom cart slot and an nes slot! just gotta design it... i love how this one is a kit for existing famicom boards so anyone could make one, and how it has a case to follow the red and gold controller design
I personally like the HG-938 HD Famicom from Ali-Express. It comes with two wireless handles as well. Great console. It even works with the KrzysioCart.
That does look pretty cool with hdmi out?! I like the idea of saving an old famicom from the junk over buying a brand new system. Thanks for sharing ill have to check it out😀
This looks cool, but I think the design would have actually made much more sense if the connector was on the top of the system and the games basically just added to its overall height when attached, if possible. Then it would look like a long Famicom themed Game Boy Color almost. :D
That seems to be the opinion of most folks. It would be cool to make a version like that as well. It basically is just the original mobo cut down slightly. Most likely the designer wasn't willing to go as far to redesign the board for vertical look.
I really love the idea of this, and would love to make one myself, but I wish there was a way to keep the cart on the back instead of in the front like that. Love the look though!
Thanks a lot I really enjoyed making it if you ever get a chance definitely check one out and I can see how somebody might like to have the cart in line
Very cool kit, well done.🙂 I like that horizontal version coming up since that is more ergonomic to me. I think a right angle cartridge slot connector would be good to get rid of the sunroof lol, but somebody has to make those first. Had to look up that RGB Blaster, that KRIKzz sure makes some neat things. Looking back it is amazing how few handheld consoles had AV output ports Egs. Nomad, PSP... uh I can't think of any others.🤔
Thank you very much! Yes the kit is really nice. I still prefer the current layout. I feel the horizontal version is too small it doesn't use the original famicom buttons which is part of its charm in my opinion but I know many folks prefer the gba style layout. I agree there should be more handheld with video outs for connecting to a TV as an option. 👍🏻👍🏻✨️
I'm heading to Japan next month, and wish I already had this before going on a game hunt! I will have to drop into Kadenken and hopefully he will have it in stock when I get there 🤞🤞
Oh, how exciting is it your first time? This will be really cool to take along on future game hunts. I hope kenchan has some in stock when you arrive. 🗼🏔⛩️
I like the finished project. But like you say, theres room for improvement.. iwould attempt to find a way to flatten the game connector so the game would just go up from the top making it all flat. The screens backlit so you dont gotta worry about the cart blocking the sun from the screen. Maybe even a way to get the cart on the back side. Maybe even a wifi nod using the nes operating system thats been being developed. Good soldering, good job, good music. Going back to my famicom disc system portable. Another week or two and i think ill get it finished. Be good
Yes that would be very cool to put the cart so that they go vertically would be a lot of work but it's still very cool. Wi-Fi mod would be awesome too . Hold Up Wait A Minute did you just say portable disk system?! I would love to see that👀🫢‼️
It is really cool... but I'm super torn on this: It would have been an awesome mod back in the day (as if we could get the screens and batteries), but at this point the preservationist in me doesn't like the idea of trashing a good condition early edition famicom to make it. There are so many modern devices of a similar form-factor that will play the same games and not even need the cartridge. In the end, it's your device though - and you did a great job. Subscribed!
I really understand your delima I felt the same way before putting a hack saw to my famicom but before I bought this it was an unwanted piece of junk but now it a cool conversation piece and nostalgic game history with a new twist so I love it👍🏻✨️
You just made the first Gameboy. If you really think about it, you did. Awesome video! I'd make this in a heartbeat if I could get ahold of the kit. But that whole being in Japan at the right time thing is kind of hindering me currently.
Would love to buy one preassembled. But in my opinion this is not quite completed yet. It would need a really really trimmed down flash cart that accepts Famicom and Famicom Disk system roms. Then it would be perfect.
Glad to hear it they are really cool little kits. Actually if you can find an old krikzz N8 they used the classic Nintendo style famicom cart shell would go perfect with this. I'd like to find one too 👀✨️👌
Thanks man I had a great time building this one. I highly recommend it for someone who has a bit of tinkering experience. Hakko desoldiering gun is the pinical of them worth every penny if you do any kind or regular Desoldiering 😉
Hey Scruffy, sorry I missed the stream. These are definitely cool, would have loved something like this as a kid. Do carts feel pretty secure? My various FC systems can freeze if I just gently bump the cart, but maybe the slot is worn out or needs cleaning or something.
The famicom with the square buttons is the one that came out at the very beginning of its lifespan but then what I call the early revision is the one that has the regular circular buttons that doesn't have the FF on the label then the famicom with the FF on the label I call that the later version I hope that clears things up

If a mod does not compermise functionality and / or gives an old system a new way to play the games it’s not at all bad for game preservation. I’d be upset if you start cutting up rare hardware but have as much fun with a famicom as you want. Subtracting a few from the census isnt going to be too much of a crime. Now if you start cutting up famicom disk systems then we gonna have a problem.
I'm glad you agree with me. I consider it saving a famicom rather than ruining a famicom. As far as for disk systems the Twin is off-limits. But id say the regular version is okay.🔧😉✨️✨️✨️

It actually serves as a good glare resistor but I can see your point
to be fair, if I was making one of these I'd still prefer to not touch the cart connector as it can be a real pain to remove
