    Honestly, I'll cry if Kurapika dies. It's just one favourite character's death after another, I guess. It's like the Danganronpa of all my favourite characters, except nobody wins.

      n8falter For some reasons, I don't think that the head in the jar is going to be Pairo's after all. At least I honestly don't want it to be like that. I mean why him specifically ?! just because he's the protagonist's best friend?! :D
      Pairo is a mere kid after all,no big deal. Togashi will never bring that up. So predictable and cliché ,I guess

    • @TalesOfNerdiaChris
      @TalesOfNerdiaChris  7 лет назад +29

      The 4th Prince is a twisted individual. He used the skin of a person to make a wall decoration. So it wouldn't be surprising that he would want the head of a kurta clan member. The position of the jar definitely suggests that its a Kurta member. Since Pairo's vision is messed up, it's possible that his scarlet eyes look special, making him special. The look different in the Phantom Rogue movie, but that's not canon. It's hard to tell from the manga if his eyes actually look different and they don't turn scarlet in the manga. But I think it would make less sense for it to be a random Kurta clan head than be Pairo's.

    Great video, man. A nice reminder of the Pika one shot as well. That theory of what's in the jar.. god damn. That is dark. I don't exactly know how I'm going to approach my own Kurapika video whenever I get started on that, but it'll be an interesting challenge taking this one into consideration. Thanks! :)

    Kurapika has been my favorite character on the show from the start. I love smart characters whose personalities have so much depth and layers. I really don't want him to die but his obsession with revenge and collecting the Scarlet eyes might be his undoing. I hope he chooses the baby prince over his revenge. But I'm not sure he'll be able to control himself if the head in the jar is indeed Pairo's. What scares me more is that he's gonna cross paths with Chrollo again very soon. And since Hisoka is hunting down the Spiders one by one, Chrollo is likely to go even more to the dark side and lose control just like Kurapika. It seems like Chrollo is walking the same path as Kurapika. The emptiness is soon to consume them both. I don't see a way out for Kurapika without the help of his friends especially if he were to face Chrollo AND the 4th prince. I mean the 4th prince seems to be really strong and it's highly unlikely that Kurapika would team up with Chrollo to reach his goal since Chrollo is the reason of all his grief. There is also the possibility of Kurapika teaming up with Hisoka against the Spiders but then again I think after Hisoka "died", he's no longer the same Hisoka that we knew. The Hisoka we knew would only fight strong opponents but the new Hisoka is driven by revenge and bloodlust. So maybe Kurapika and Hisoka won't see eye to eye if Hisoka wants to destroy everything in his path. I wish somehow Ging and Kurapika would cross paths. Maybe Ging can guide him like he guided Kite & Razer. He might be able to help save him somehow. To be honest, I really want Kurapika to meet both Ging and Pariston since they're the smartest characters on the show. It would be really interesting to see their interactions. But then there is also Netero's son who doesn't seem to be a good guy and I feel he's gonna play a huge part in how things play out. The Arc is so damn complicated, I just can't even begin to guess what will happen. There are so many elements that will come into play.

    I'm gonna be blunt and say it'll most likely end in tragedy.
    Afew years back, in an interview, someone asked Togashi "what will happen to Kurapika and the Phantom Troupe"
    And he replied "They're all gonna die" which everyone didn't believe because writers tend to say that to avoid spoilers, but then we see the Phantom Troupe slowly getting killed off, so its like "well, damn. Kurapika will die" you know? I mean its possible he won't kill Kurapika, but hey, its Togashi, we won't know until it happens. If he does die though, I hope he recovers the last pair of his clans eyes doing so.

    • @TalesOfNerdiaChris
      @TalesOfNerdiaChris  7 лет назад +20

      My thoughts exactly. I think Togashi was joking during the interview but a lot of truth is said in jest. Kurapika will die, happily, after collecting the last pair of eyes.

    This script evolved (or crumbled) several times. It started as a discussion on Kurapika's popularity and my personal feelings towards the character, it then changed to how I relate to the character, and finally it somehow turned into this. +TalesOfNerdia another awesome video Nerdia I love your insightfulness to the characters and the world of hunter x hunter looking forward to more hunter x hunter videos in the future. Do you really think the dark continent arc is one of last arcs? seems reasonable to end it there I'm not there yet in the manga myself but where else could Togashi take the story after that.

    • @TalesOfNerdiaChris
      @TalesOfNerdiaChris  7 лет назад +3

      Most of this is from memory so don't quote me exactly but: Togashi mentioned in an interview about having ideas for 3 or 4 more arcs. I believe the statement was made during the election arc and I believe he counted the election arc in that. So that leaves 2-3 arcs. The Dark Continent is considered by some, including myself, to actually be 2 arcs. The first arc is the journey to the New Continent because of the involvement of the Princes and how complex they've made the arc. Whichever Prince survives the Gu will also not be traveling to the Dark Continent, just the Zodiac and Beyond, which makes it feel like a separate storyline. The second arc would take place on the Dark Continent involving only the Zodiac, Beyond (and his group, and possibly the Phantom Troupe and Hisoka. That leaves at a maximum only 1 arc left after the Dark Continent. Of course, Togashi could have changed his mind since that quote and may have more planned but he's also expressed an interest in making a card-battle manga so I still think he'll want to wrap up HxH sooner rather than later.

    • @mulikgoodwin
      @mulikgoodwin 7 лет назад

      +TalesOfNerdia Even though HxH is not my favorite series I still enjoy it I hope we do eventually get to see how this series will end the story and world of this series is so open-ended the possibilities are endless maybe you could do a video with your own thoughts and speculations on that in the future. One more arc after the dark continent is a good stopping point even though I still have a ways to go in the story myself I want this manga/anime to have a good definite end and I'm sure Togashi can deliver if we get there.

    In my opinion, when Kurapika refused to kill Majitani, it wasn't out of selfishness. It was a fight to the death yes, unless someone surrendered. Majitani surrendered shortly before, Kurapika knocked him out. And him refusing to kill him unconscious was putting his team at a disadvantage, but was also showing his opponent a fighter' s honor and respect, also a little mercy by giving him a chance to awaken and fight him again, then finish the fight. I always thought it showed how very faithful to his principles Kurapika is, even in the face of peer pressure, if you will. But you have a right to your own perceptions, that was just mine when I watched the episode. Anyway, I really enjoyed your analysis.

  • @Yodah97
    @Yodah97 7 лет назад +33

    How will Kurapika's story end? I honestly have no idea. I mean, the whole idea behind Hunter x Hunter is subverting tropes, so I guess the ending Togashi has planned depends on how he perceives Kurapika's story.
    Kurapika is out for revenge, which means he'll either figure out the error of his ways or the story will end in tragedy -- that's how revenge tales usually go. So a subversion would be for Kurapika to find inner peace but *still* end up in a tragedy, I guess?
    That's one way to see it, at least. Bottom line is: it's impossible to predict the path of an author whose whole goal and method breeds impredictability.

    Such a wonderful establishment of the nature of Kurapika's dual personality, shown even more when you take into consideration Kurapika's nen. Hisoka mentions the "personality" traits of nen which says that Kurapika's natural nature of conjurer is high-strung and methodical, seen as how his light side is calm, steady, and about "right or wrong" (see his arguement with Leorio right before the hunter exam about what a hunter should do), while his specialist nature when activating his dark side is, as Hisoka mentioned, all about being selfish and independent, doing things by one's self. Once again, Togashi shows so much about a character this way(also a reason for me to believe that if Gon does get his nen back, this time he will be a specialist, since his base nature is closer to a specialist in my opinion)
    As far as how Kurapika's "story" might conclude in the future, I have a few theories, some completely far fetched, others more likely. Perhaps one of my favorite ideas me and my friend Britt (I watched the 2011 version with her) came up with is that Pairo is, in fact, not "dead" yet, or might be "brought back to life". It's not completely out of the realm of speculation that the spider decapitated him and placed his head in a jar, in hopes that the buyer of the head (or they themselves) could find a nen ability to bring back the quality in Pairo's eyes as his eyes were already damaged to a certain extent and probably not as valuable as the other normal Kurta eyes. Why else would there only be one head? Why not just the eyes like the others? I feel Togashi would not include this just for "Kurapika rage fuel". Another interesting idea about this is the fact that Kurapika has, in a roundabout way, found the doctor he was looking for: Leorio. One could argue that Togashi made Leorio go to this arc just so we could see more of him and give him "more screen time", but I think he has a plan for him. Leorio is the most underdeveloped character out of the main four and the reason for this may be that his "arc" will come to a head during the Dark continent, in conjunction with Kurapika's ending. Leorio does have multiple different versions of his nen (the warping punch and ultrasound) so perhaps he also has a "healing" ability, which would make sense as the more healer of the group. I personally just find it almost a bittersweet sense of irony that Kurapika went on a mission to find a doctor for Pairo in the beginning, and then in one of the last arcs of the series, he will find, most likely, Pairo in that jar along with a doctor by his side. Not only this, but Togashi has kind of, in a way, shown that he is "pairing up" characters as far as how their arcs influence one another, Gon and Killua, Ging and Kite, Meruem and Komugi, etc, and from the beginning we have seen that Togashi at least intended for Leorio to be influenced by Kurapika in some way or another as seen with their conflicting personalities, goals, ideology, etc. (ofc he was influenced by Gon, but I feel that Gon's influence on him was more just bringing out nature he already had and encouraging him)
    Sorry this is such a super long comment, I just have a lot of opinions when it comes to speculating plots and such. I really enjoyed this video, especially your analysis of how Kurapika's state of mind is due to others as well as how this plays off the rules of being a hunter. Looking forward to the next part of the Gon and Killua friendship vids as well!

    • @TalesOfNerdiaChris
      @TalesOfNerdiaChris  7 лет назад +13

      I'm inclined to say that Pairo's head was salvaged because of either his expression or his damaged eyes are even more valuable because they so unique when they turn scarlet. However, I really like your theory. With all of the crazy things the Dark Continent holds it's possible that there is something that, maybe Leorio, could find that could help regrow Pairo's body since his head is intact. It does sounds far-fetched but it's fun to think about all the possibilities this arc could bring.

    • @yorha9949
      @yorha9949 6 лет назад +3

      The last thing Gon is gonna become is a specialist. Togashi has implied that his main set of characters will never be the like of Naruto and Bleach. Gon sacrificed his potential. To get back to that level is even harder. Manipulators and Conjurers are the most possible bets if you wanna be a specialist. Enhancers are entirely opposite to it. And you can't use another category to a efficiency except the one you are born with.

    Hunter x Hunter is not about sad endings but transformation. Kurapica wasn't the only one conflicted, wrestling with his dark side. Killua had the same issues. None of the four primary characters are the same as they were in the beginning. Both Killua and Kurapica were tempered by Gon Freecs. However in addition Gon and Melody, Leorio is now also a moral stabilizer to Kurapica. This was apparent in the Yorknew Arc. He's on the ship also. Kurapica is there because Leorio wanted him there and knew what button to push.

    • @TalesOfNerdiaChris
      @TalesOfNerdiaChris  7 лет назад +8

      Kurapika also expressed gratitude for having Leorio around when he became a Zodiac. This is something I should have mentioned and I don't know how I missed that. That being said, I still think there's a strong possibility of his death, or at the very least a near-death experience that changes his outlook and helps him get over his grief.

    • @rupertofhentzau920
      @rupertofhentzau920 7 лет назад +5

      No need for an apology. I appreciate your brilliant insight. I suspect you are right. But the near death won't be Kurapica. It's going to be someone close to him. Someone like Melody, Leorio, etc. He is bonding to Prince Woble. The absolute worse thing that could happen to him is not his death. He's long since accepted the possibility. But if his single-mindedness caused injury to a friend, that is a hell he could not bear.
      Oh and I respectfully disagree about his initial meeting with Leorio. He was deliberately mis-pronouncing Leorio's name to show his contempt for him. Leorio was used for comic relief so much, we forget he is capable of a cold rage. In return for repeated insults, he immediately hit the Kurta button. You don't fight duels unless you're willing to kill somebody. Even in Trick Tower, after seeing what Kurapica capability, Leorio still wasn't scared of him. Kurapica was aware of this even if he didn't back down. By Yorknew, he respected Leorio. That was a good thing for Killua and Gon.

    kurapika was my favorite character in hunter x hunter... well not really, killua was, but I loved kurapika's story the most. it was the most interesting, especially the way it was going in the latest arc. he is the most inteligent of the cast meaning when he is solving a problem, he will do it in the most complicated and fascinating way possible. he is also the most tragic of the cast since he is headed down a road that has high chances of not ending well... which is exactly why I hate how we are never seeing the end of it.

    Honestly I feel like kurapikas going to die, especially with the whole "emperor time stealing his life" thing. I mean he must have already lost at least 15 years of life, and that's just from what we've seen, not including training and when he's wearing contacts. And there's no way he's not going to use emperor time again during the succession war, especially when he goes against the 4th prince. I really don't want him to die, he's an amazing character, but I'm starting to think it's inevitable

    The idea of it being Pairo's head would be so interesting to me cause of a few things. First, the idea of an actual full head means there's an identity, he's been collecting the eyes but it might have been not as painful because they were just eyes. With the head it will be linked to someone he knows. Second of course, it being his literal best friend... it'd be like Killua dying next to Gon or something and that leads me to the 3rd thing, Oito, Bill, Woble, Shimano... none of them have really seem Kurapika flip out. He's kinda been the incredibly calm, intelligent and jaded guy this whole time, even before the voyage when we caught up with him again.
    Also makes me wonder, why was a whole head kept and didn't have the eyes taken??

    i don't see things getting better for kurapika, melody is a vulnerable position, and she will likely get killed off, leeorio is in a vunerable position hes at the bottom deck where all the violence is occurring, then there is the 4th kikin prince with the eyes + piros head, then there is kurapika nen teacher who is stuck in a volatile position, then there is the spiders on board the ship including chrollo, then there is the chance of prince wobble getting hurt, there is basically a bunch of ingredients on board the ship to drive kurapkia to the brink, i don't see it ending great, he'll be pushed into vengeance and darkness, to the point where even people like leorio/melody/hanzo/his nen master, will not be able to calm his thirst for vegence down, in short there are too many vunerable characters who will likely get hurt who kurapika cares about and too many volatile charachters who will drive kurapika to the path of no return. Kurapikas story is basically a reminder of what killua story could've been had he still be under control of illumi and his family.

    Loved this analysis a lot! Definitely made me think about Kurapika and his future arc in the story differently--especially in focusing the analysis on the essential question of what happens to him once his goals are accomplished (or, what happens to his rage and darkness?) One important thing to this question that I thought was left out was that in giving in to his rage and darkness, Kurapika is not just sacrificing his "light persona," but his very ideals, his belief in what makes a good person and a good Hunter. It begins with his arguments with Leorio about why one becomes a Hunter: Kurapika states a fervent belief in the idea that a Hunter should be noble, considerate, a deeply moral individual (a conception that now seems easily traced to his youthful hero worship of them in the special chapters). It's clear that Kurapika is a highly ethical person, that he believes in doing good and being kind and helping others. However, in order to revenge his clan, he throws all that aside. This is made most obvious by his conversation with Uvogin. Kurapika admits disgust at the violent, cruel acts he must take against Uvogin. It's hard to tell from his absolute determination to get revenge, but these and similar scenes tell us that violence, that murder doesn't come natural to Kurapika, that it's not who he wants to be nor who he thinks he should be. I think this is the crux of Kurapika's two personas, and it has awesome implications for his relationship with Leorio, with Gon, and his place in the stories themes... which I'll probably end up writing a tumblr post about now. Sorry this was so long?

    He is one of my favourite characters ever, and this video pretty much explained why Kurapika is such a great character
    I sure want to see Kurapika happy at the end of HxH, but if it is for him to end up tragically, I hope that Togashi will make it in an appropriate style. Ah, the Dark Continent Expedition started off ao beautifully and it really pumped up a lot of fans. I have a hint that this arc might actually be the best arc of this series, something even better than the Yorknew City arc. I hope you will make a video on this arc when it ends

    I'm honestly hoping the Dark Continent arc is a second chance for Kurapika. I want Kurapika to adopt Woble and marry Leorio and get a cat/dog/lizard/bird. Get Kurapika a whole farm and therapy! My boy needs some rehabilitation!

  • @KingCaius

    One thing I wonder about is how he'd react to the fact that Hisoka has now resolved to kill off the spiders himself. I'm honestly pretty stumped about how the DC arc will really go, maybe once we get a bit farther I'll have a better idea of how Wobble will really effect him. I was kind of hoping that Leorio would also be able to help Kurapika stay lighter.

    • @TalesOfNerdiaChris
      @TalesOfNerdiaChris  7 лет назад +5

      I have this strange feeling that he knew about Hisoka fighting Chrollo (but not the aftermath). He said he would be able to tell if Chrollo somehow removed his chain curse but we don't see him react when that happens.
      I'm also hoping Leorio can help Kurapika. Hopefully Cheadle doesn't keep him locked up in that medical ward 24/7.

    • @KingCaius
      @KingCaius 7 лет назад +4

      I'm thinking maybe his experience during the York New City arc taught him that retrieving the eyes was more important to go after. Gon telling him he could focus on finding the eyes seemed to surprise him, almost as if he was so focused on the killing that the supposed deaths of the troupe was negative, and Gon pointed out how his goal was made easier instead. Then again I have only seen the anime for the early arcs since I haven't gone back and read the manga so I don't know the comparison.
      The medical ward is definitely gonna start getting busy when the actual fighting starts, Leorio and Kurapika might end up crossing paths simple because of that. Honestly I just want some Leorio development too.

    next main character Leorio!! x)
    even though he has reletevly little envolvement i honestly would like to see Leorios analysis, he's simple yet thats what i think makes him unique on the "team", and he dose have good moments, that and a (again) simple yet reliable backstory, its one of the reasons i was really onboard with the idea of him being chairman, he seems like the weak yet strong will character to lead the Hunter assosiation and by being chairman we could have seen him grow or develope more like a leader and as a charater, but then again Gon's point in that he just whants to be a doctor dose make more sense :/
    overall i think that for the little envolvement he has, there could be a video on his overall character, and i would look foward to that video if you were to make it,i know it takes time for this kinds of videos though, so ill paitently wait for every one of them and im glad to see your still making them.

    I think the condition he set on himself will eventually kill him because there will be a time where he uses one of his chains on someone rather than a a phantom troupe or barely making it out alive and using nen the way hisoka did after his fight with Krolo or emperor time finally kills him. I really hope the manga eventually continues and the anime continues as well I really want to see the dark continent and how Kurpikas journey ends

    Yappari. That head is something when I saw it. I don't know what our dear HxH author is thinking but in most anime that I watched that have characters like Kurapika, the way the character been saved or said to begin to have a his/her freedom is when after they face their "past". So it will be that head, the major key of what will happened to Kurapika. Sure, he will go wild after seeing that. And remember that the phantom troupe is also in the ship. The thing is how he will handle it, those emotions. Sadness, anger, I guess there is also guilt. And how those who is around with him that time will be able to handle him.

    I want to know the method of what Netero used to determine who has more potential than who. I do not understand why Gon has more potential than Killua.

    • @TalesOfNerdiaChris
      @TalesOfNerdiaChris  7 лет назад +17

      I think Gon has more potential, specifically as a Hunter, because he has a clear vision. Killua was just taking the exam for fun and is not interested in being a hunter so it's reasonable to deem him as having less potential. He also gave up during the game with Netero to get the ball where as Gon continued even though he knew he was outclassed. Morel even said that there's more hope for Gon since Killua fled from Pitou.

  • @mapleunix1

    I'm calling it now: Since Nanika/Alluka has been mentioned to be from the Dark Continent, most likely there will be others of her kind. Leorio knows the details of this power and his presence in the DC arc indicate Kurapica will be, or is already aware of this. If the plot leads them to encounter more Nanikas he might attempt to sacrifice his life to bring back the Kurta clan. Such a costly wish would probably require even more than just his life. The struggle between his light and dark sides could come to a head in this scenario, and I personally would love it if he sacrificed himself in a very gruesome Togashi manner to bring them back.

    Thanks for making such a video, was very good analysis.I enjoyed it so much.
    I think we all agree that this hiatus has to end soon if the manga is going to continue by any chance. It's been almost a year already :3
    Kurapika is my favorite protagonist, and a lot of theories were suggested as regards his story.I think that Kurta clan and probably Ryodans as well, originate from dark continent.
    Maybe Kurta members were the gate keepers of DC. what makes me predict this is the thing explained in the manga in Kuralika's special chapters. Everyone in the village was a afraid of Kurapika when his eyes turned red.
    Kurta clan has did something in the past made everyone think they're evil,but only the elders know the truth. What does that mean?!
    I see many characters die in this arc because DC is a very dangerous place.
    Keeping in mind what happened to Gon when he fought with Pitou,vengeance stories never end peacefully in HxH.
    Actually I anticipate alot of tragedy with Kurapika,that will be so sad though.
    He also had to learn new nen techniques otherwise it won't go well because prince of Kakin ain't a spider unless his new power will be his index finger.
    I'm so enthusiastic to know what's
    going to happen. I want a happy ending for Kurapika I don't think that he's ment to be an evil character his issue is so fair, I guess.
    Waiting for your upcoming videos. ^^

      yeah, i also theorise about the kurtas being originally from DC.
      one thing that caught my eye is the "infinite" sign on kurapika's cloak, is the same one on the cover of the book about DC that ging is keeping and that he states is written from don freecs

    • @numnum8357
      @numnum8357 7 лет назад

      Zine Mégathérium Yea, the book Kurapika read together with Pairo is probably the book Don frecess wrote and still is continuing to write it RN.
      That's why I think Kurapika is going to be so useful in this arc.He probably knows so much already about DC.
      I think Togashi loves reading and books, doesn't he?
      You can find so many books symbols and powers or abilities in the series .
      ( Kurapika loves to read at the beginning of the series, the book he read and led him the outside world, the book in greed island arc, chorollo's ability)...
      Maybe he's trying to confirm the importance or benefits of reading who knows😂😊

    I enjoyed the video, my thoughts have been along the same line as yours, but I never realised how big an influence Gon was on him. I'd like to hope Gon and him meet up and Gon somehow calms him down but in my opinion, its unlikely. All I see is Kurapika losing himself in his rage when he either sees/confronts the fourth prince, or when he sees the eyes, or even when he sees the troupe members, but I can see it all ending tragically with Kurapika most likely dying. Honestly don't see a happy ending for him at all, they've kinda foreshadowed his death and lose of control due to emperor time.

    Good video, it's clear that you care a lot about this character. I think you dwelled a bit too long on some points but overall very solid. I think you have great knowledge on HxH and are an intelligent guy. Please know that I enjoy your videos. But here I have a bit of criticism that I hope you know is well-intentioned.
    Your videos these days are self-proclaimed "Analysis" content and it's not exactly an incorrect statement. But I think a more accurate title of these would be "summaries." A lot of the things you point out are things that any average reader/watcher would know already, having experienced the story. They don't really bring anything new to the table that I hadn't thought of before (except the Pairo jar theory, that was cool). When I listen to your videos, I find myself mentally nodding in agreement and going "yep, yep, I thought that too," without learning anything new. If that's your intention, then terrific. Keep doing what you're doing, the videos are good. But a lot of this is "shallow" analysis by my definition. Also, your voice could use a bit more energy sometimes. I listened to this at 1.5x speed to stop myself from getting sleepy.
    I'm sorry that this critique comes at the back of a video that you obviously worked hard and spent a lot of time on, but I wanted to say this. Again, I still like the videos! Just thought I'd leave my two cents. You can ignore this if you want.

    • @TalesOfNerdiaChris
      @TalesOfNerdiaChris  7 лет назад +15

      I appreciate the criticism and most of what you said has already been on my mind for a while. I find myself describing specific scenes in too much detail, only offering small nuggets of my own perspective here and there. This happened a lot in my Shinyuu series. I tried to break that habit with this video, which is why towards the end I jumped from the Uvo scene all the way to the Dark Continent. You can basically here me screaming "Look, here's the point I'm trying desperately to articulate." during the transition between 14:10 - 14:53 . I do have a hard time gauging, in this type of video, if what I'm providing is new and interesting. In several areas I think I succeed but recognize I can do much better in others. Admittedly, a lot of this script should have been gutted and I realized that towards the end of writing it (again lol). Instead of spending another 2-3 weeks on it I decided to just make some minor edits and accepted that it would be a learning experience. Again, I absolutely appreciate the feedback and take no offense. Thank you for the honesty. I'll do my best to improve and hope you stick around for that.

      Netero could hold a bias against those type of hunters. Kurapika's reasoning for becoming a Black List Hunter is driven by his own personal agenda, not by some noble desire for justice. Hisoka was also rated very low even though he was clearly the strongest of them all.

      I'm pretty sure it worked the other way around though. In the manga Netero said that those who were given the most opportunities to pass were those who had the most potential, like how Gon is at the bottom even though he was highly thought of. This means that by being on the bottom and having so many opportunities to pass, Netero actually thought very highly of Kurapika (and Hisoka).

  • @affable8696
    @affable8696 6 лет назад +1

    Wasn't the ladder made by Netero upside-down? Meaning that the more impressive candidates received more chances. Otherwise Killua feeling insecure about having less potential than Gon (due to him being higher on the ladder than Gon) wouldn't make sense.

  • @ngocPham-sh5pi

    i have a theory, maybe the spider wasn't the culprit of the mass murder of the Kurta clan but the 4th prince instead. In the two chapter about Kurapika, Togas mentioned how the Kurta clan was tortured in a gruesome way before they died, that reminded me of the 4th prince's habit of torturing people before he killed them not the spider. Certainly the spider must have crossed path with the Kurta clan but probably in a fight, that was the reason why Uvo didn't remembered who the Kurta was when Kura questioned him, he was neither dumbed nor having alzheimer, even Chrollo didn't answer when Kura questioned him directly. Togashi left this matter very ambiguous, luckily Kura only killed Uvo.

    Hey I was wondering what do you think of the English dub for HxH 2011 ?

    • @TalesOfNerdiaChris
      @TalesOfNerdiaChris  7 лет назад +2

      I've only watched the first few episodes. From the impression I got it was better than the average dub and I think most of the casting was pretty good, except for Killua, which I've stated in a livestream that it's not the VAs fault but just a bad casting decision.

      TalesOfNerdia imo Killua's english dub voice actor has gotten a little better.
      I still prefer Killua's original dub voice though.

    01:53 He failed it. They just cheated. He might even be blaming himself coz the event happened after he went out. We knew the clan is hiding from outsiders. And Kurapika's eyes became red when he went outside

    0:17 04:29 wait when did netero said that? Isn't Kurapika one of the best scorers in the final exam along with Gon, Hanzo and Hisoka?
    The best scorers are the ones at the bottom hence they get more chances to win than the others. That's why Killua and Pokkle complained about the ranking

    he becoming kind of a "villain" is not something i would doubt.
    Hunter x hunter is a rather dark story, and he is a caracter that we know very well by now and it would make sense for him to turn to dark side, maybe to be brought back by the protagonist?, or maybe even to have a tragic end :/
    Edit: Toguro from Yuyu hackusho might have had a similar back story, i can't remember but i definetly see that one happening heh

      I was looking into stories and lore of the Chinese Zodiac a long time ago trying to relate it to the Zodiac of HxH but didn't find much to go on in that department. But I do find a few of them really interesting, specifically Geru. I just love her character design.

    Wait when did chairman Netero say that about Kurikipa? Was it in the manga? Or in the anime because I watched both versions of the anime and don't remember him saying that about Kurikipa. I am currently reading the manga so is it in the manga?

      Iirc Netero never said that. Kurapika is one of the best scorers in the hunter final exam. Along with Gon, Hanzo and Hisoka. That's why Killua and Pokkle are complaining about the ranking.
      Idk where he gets that information

    TLDR: Kurapika wasn't especially impressive during the tests nor was he mentioned much by his peers, yet he only had one less chance than Gon during the final test, suggesting the interview was a plus instead of a minus for him.
    For the most part, I like the video. I like most of your videos. But it seems to me that trying to bring Netero's opinion into it is a reach and the weakest part of it. Aside from us not knowing what Kurapika told him, let alone all that Netero asked (we can't assume that because Hisoka was only asked three questions that three questions were all they had), Kurapika only had one less chance than Gon. Netero said part of the ranking was based off how their fellow examinees viewed them. Kurapika was barely mentioned. So unless you think Netero was lying about that being a factor, you have to assume that his physical ability and mental acuity greatly impressed him/them during the tests despite not impressing his peers. Two trained assassins, a martial arts master, and Leeorio (who's purely physical growth was better than both Kurapika's and Gon's in the manga when they were opening the two ton doors) all ranked lower than Kurapika. So, since the peers weren't impressed, yet you still think wanting to hunt the spiders for revenge was a negative, for Kurapika to still have only one less chance than Gon, that would mean Kurapika's physical and mental abilities would have to significantly impress the proctors. But he wasn't that impressive. He wasn't especially fast during the original run, Gon led him through the mist after Hisoka went on a little killing spree, in the tower, he beat up a guy who was all talk, and in the forest, he caught old buddy slipping as he was running away. Giving how his performance in the tests didn't stand out that much, and the fact that his peers barely mentioned him to Netero, I'd argue that, if he did tell Netero about wanting to hunt the spiders, that was a positive instead of a negative.

      You bring up good points about Kurapika's performance and I'll concede that calling it stellar was an unintentional misrepresentation. That being said, Kurapika's rating in the bracket surprised me even on my first viewing when I didn't know how strong he would become. I'll try to respond when I get off work tonight with some rebuttals. Given your strong arguments I think this is going to be an uphill battle that requires a lengthy post lol.

    What makes you think this is one of the last arcs?

    • @TalesOfNerdiaChris
      @TalesOfNerdiaChris  7 лет назад

      Togashi stated in an interview when the Election arc was being published that he had ideas for 3-4 more arcs (including the Election Arc). That means 2-3 arcs left. Most people consider the current arc to be something like the "death match" arc since there is so much going on between the princes. It will be followed by the Dark Continent arc. That leaves 1 more arc.
