Gotta give my shoutout to Skid, never have I heard or seen anyone be as positive and encouraging when anyone gets a good roll or makes a good call. Every single time the first person to give an affirmation is Skid! I love it.
Skid is the man
Skid is a legendarily great player all round. Absolutely.
Skid is a team player, you can feel he's really there for the whole party to succeed ❤
Skid is truly a gentleman, and that’s a rare compliment
Skid, the Naish loves you ❤
We need a Francis camera whenever they make him laugh
I'd like to second this motion.

Bloopers reals with the Francam?!
Let it be known!
Talitha risking everything to try to save Zephyr at incredible, lethal risk to herself. That is heroism. Not video game moves. Not nifty powers. A willingness to Risk it for the Biscuit.
I know what you mean, but it would be really cool if there was some sort of in game mechanic that you could reward people for doing... say heroic acts.... maybe like some kind of point system? Or is that just to crazy?
Real heroes don't need plot armor
definitely bottlecap worthy, oh wait
I really appreciate how the GCN crew handles character death. The moment of silence at the end hit hard…
The dead party is found by the new party whose first question is”Certainly they wouldn’t have tried to cross the river where that massive snail beast lives.”
'But look at these bodies... they didn't know about it, because they aren't from here! "
"No. That's not possible. The gates are closed. "
*spots key* "They were."
Only with the Glasscannon crew does a viewer think: "Time to mount that pseudojawn for a Mid-Com Cav Dip Grapple Bone!" Thanks, GCN. It's always a blast, even when wincing at the proceedings.
Considering the catastrophic combat opening, a week marred by not one but TWO asterisks, a legion of comments about Paizo's central design philosophy of Hero Points and bottlecapzonis, things worked out pretty well. One of the more entertaining combat slogs I've watched in a long time.
Oh my gosh this is perfect! Sounds exactly like when they were multiclassing in 1e
@@junkbucket50 Yes! The multiclass suggestions after every level up were great.
Troy: How did this happen? Me (screaming loudly enough I worry the neighbors about to come over): BECAUSE YOU DON'T GIVE OUT BOTTLECAPS TROY THAT'S HOW
Amazing episode, my initial thoughts:
• Full respect to Troy for giving Joe the bottlecap, despite his hesitation that it came across as a get out of jail free card. Joe's earned it so many times over that it was due. I also respect how Troy played the snail throughout this episode, he definitely didn't go easy on the party but he also didn't play too tactical for something with -3 Int.
• The flashback/dream sequence was fantastic and I really appreciate when they do these clear scripted narrative moments, when I've seen other shows try to hide them behind ultimately meaningless dice rolls.
• I'm extremely happy Brother Ramius survived, he might be my favourite PC and his death would have been very bad for the party as there could be some hesitance to have a backup that fills the exact same role of dedicated healer.
• Talitha dying sucks but nicely she is the only character who we can lose and still have a clear connection for her backstory that Matthew worked on to come up (Asta having received the Changeling Trait).
• Zephyr losing her bow is unfortunate but forcing her into the frontline with Asta could actually be pretty beneficial to party survival. Though an extra frontliner would really help, speaking of which...
• I'm really looking forward to Mathew's next character, especially as their isolated location is going to almost force them into having better knowledge of the area that could benefit the party.
• I also think a new PC is an opportunity for Troy to weave in a clearer connection and goal for the current mission, Joe has been saying for a while that he feels a little lost and unfocused in this AP.
This episode was a rollercoaster where I truly did not know what would happen and who might die from moment to moment, and at the end I was sad but satisfied with how it played out. I appreciate so much that the Glass Cannon crew are playing this like a real game in ways that so many other TTRPG shows just aren't, it's a true breath of fresh air.
Goddamn, such a great flashback for brah Ramius, legit performance from Joe.
Emotional stakes are the hardest thing to pull off and do well. This was a glorious episode. Well played!
Thanks! It was a hell of an ep!

The fact they only got out of this fight with one death is amazing, and out of all the people I never thought it would be Talitha. RIP part of you will always live on in Asta.
The Calling is still in play!!!
100. I said oh F*** oh **** when Matthew rolled a 1 and my wife thought the baby was hurt or something lol
Great combat, great episode. Can't wait for next week
That look on Matt's face after his last death save roll...
Crushing despair mixed with an angry disbelief. Came through the camera hard!
16:44 Notice how Sidney, Kate, and Matthew all touch dice as a way of blessing each other's rolls, and they leave Joe out of it? CONSPIRACY I TELL YOU!
Love you all. Thank you so much for what you do!

You can tell it's a hell of a thing, when even Troy is like "fuck..." at the end.
Great session.
“We're like licorice. Not everybody likes licorice, but the people who like licorice really like licorice.”
― Jerry Garcia
So excited to meet the backup characters. Good luck team!!
Damn. Well played all. Through the ups and downs.
The dice roll and tell the story. Great episode
The dice giveth and the dice taketh away. I'm so sorry Matthew! Talitha the Hero
I love how (seemingly) unforgiving Troy runs the game and doesn’t shy away from letting the dice decide. The adventure path and the system combined with the stingy amount of hero points/bottle caps might be making things extremely tough for the players, but as a spectator, I wouldn’t want to see plot armour reign.
To me, the solution is quite simple - do not let hero points be a get-out-of-death card. Either disallow them entirely when it comes to death saves, or turn them into a reroll with the second result standing.
Agreed.
Totally disagree. These combats are a slog to watch when every single encounter is like this. AND, they are happening constantly.
A SNAIL killed someone and was a harder fight than the supposed first BBEG. The system is clunky and ridiculous, the difficulty is moronic. They don't feel like heroes, or adventurers, or even competent when every single fight is a boss and they are constantly on the verge of death, and in this case, someone did die. TWO episodes fighting a flipping SNAIL. It isn't exciting, it isn't nerve wracking, it isn't fun. And it's clear from their faces, that none of them are really enjoying the way this has been going.
They are getting no where, and at this rate not a single original character is going to live long enough to have any kind of story pay off. Having fights that are reasonable is not plot armor, it's part of having a fun, fair game.
@@RyanAcidhedzMurphy I have seen some complaints about this AP, and it seems like this section in particular is a big offender. Just a huge gauntlet of back to back tough fights with level 2 characters. It's been non-stop fights since the bird Gorgas in the Thin Lands. This snail feels like it would be doable if the environment was perfectly neutral and everyone got average rolls, but Troy has been rolling like crazy and this water hazard is a huge hindrance.
I think this was designed to be a healthy challenge for experienced players *who plan their characters around team comp*, and that's just not how they've been doing it. I saw someone on the game's subreddit say that it feels a lot smoother if you bump the players to level 3 as soon as they beat Kaneepo, and I do think that would have helped.
@@lued123 Sounds about right. They are 35 episodes in, which amounts to about as many hours of game play, and it feels like something like 70% or more has been slogging through ridiculously hard fights.
I enjoy this group, and what little roleplay they have done with the characters has been good, but I think the game system is utter garbage. It seems designed to "rooster" block everything you want to do, constantly.
I enjoy stuff like this because I want to see what happens next, and the answer always seems to be another, far too difficult, slog of a fight. Makes it hard to care about the characters because it feels like they're all going to die before they get anywhere. AND, the story because without the character connection it's just a mystery I could find the solution to online.
@@RyanAcidhedzMurphy When you say "the game system" are you referring to Pathfinder 2E as a whole? Because I would disagree there. This is just a fairly deadly Adventure Path and they're in a notoriously sloggy section of it. PF2E works great if the encounters are balanced to the players. It's just that the person who designed this AP either accidentally overtuned it, or they intentionally designed it to appeal to a group that goes hard on tactics.
In the GM Core, there's a nice table that's supposed to help you design encounters at an average level of danger, and this AP has repeatedly done that, but then added some environmental factor in that makes it way harder (darkness, the enemy being up in a tree, slippery rocks). Add on that most of these fights are single, powerful enemies that everyone struggles to hit at this level and it's a recipe for disaster. If the encounters were strictly by that table, or if the players were 1 level higher, I think this group would be having a much better time.
Excellent episode.
Start went 0 to 60, and the foot never once came off the gas! Its going to be very interesting to see how the characters go forth from here.
You guys really hedged you bets on this one...

Hey, at least a piece of Talitha lives on in Asta (re: The trait-bestowing pods)
This was my first thought as well.
Can’t wait for Hubert: Matthew’s Version.
@@Crimenocerous Hey Paizo just released animal PC ancestry options sooo...
@@Crimenocerous please please please please please please please be right.
Matthew, you sure know how to play one heck of a game.
As always, thanks for telling great stories.
I can't explain why but I have the most feelings when it's one of Matthew's characters that dies. Such a great episode
Given that most of Matthew's characters have died due to sheer bad luck, badly designed/unplaytested sections, and Troy making less than optimal decisions as a GM (and yes, I go hard on fellow GMs when I think they're making bad choices), I feel for him and honestly don't know why he still plays Pathfinder with Troy. Troy is a brilliant CoC/DG GM but his antagonistic style really doesn't let his Pathfinder games blossom.
@@JFStandhopeI really don’t get this. The most aggravating part of this whole fight has been the players refusing to adapt and use other combat skills other than repeatedly attacking. It’s definitely one of the most difficult encounters in the book but Troy gives them 2 bottle caps at the beginning of the ep and Hubert actually helps which is pretty significant. Plus his rulings on falling into the water are super light on them as well.
What an excellent ep! I mean really, this was an impossible situation and the fact that any of they managed to escape at all was super climactic.
That look on Troy’s face at the end says it all. 35 episodes in, 2 PC deaths? It’s time to take a step back and think about if this is the nature of the story that the crew wants to tell.
I think a confluence of changes could pivot the tone/nature of the story here. As always, the dice really told the story here. PCs rolling poorly, GM rolling exceptionally well.
Bottlecaps, level up, gradual bonus progression, tactics, new PC all could change up the tone/feel of the game and narrative. I leave it to the good folks on the show to figure it out for themselves. I’ll still be here loving every second of the performance!
"Anything else on your person I can pour on ya?" 😂😂😂
Wait, Skid's a metalhead, UP THE IRONS!!!
the results here will trigger the Zephyr redemption arc, finally start doing well in combat in Talitha's name......well that, or they all get eaten by the giant ladybird down the road
Gotta hand it to them, I almost never watch live but here I am ready for the snail slaughter.
Cant wait to see the mostly new party!
Honestly such a great ep. Loved the roleplay moments to start out, I like that there are real consequences when the party put itself in a bad spot. No more frolicking across blood rivers unprepared. This is a dangerous place and you've seen the consequences. Tough lesson for the characters to learn but I can totally see them use this as a wake up call to be wary in how they approach things going forward. Hopefully we can some more flashbacks, some bonding experience RP, more caps, and I can't wait to see Matthew's next character.
Say what you like about a gritty campaign but the stakes felt real the danger was palpable and the threat was genuine
Loosing a character is always a wrench but honestly it does add to the realistic sense of peril if every player knows death is a very real possibility
For me, when I'm a player, I actually appreciate the threat of character death. It makes it that much sweeter when you don't die and reach high level. That doesn't mean that death should be the only fail state in the game, but I do think overall it makes the game much more entertaining.
Hint for Joe - you might want to get the Reach feat. I reckon it would really suit you. Sadly you probably need to wait 5 years before you have the chance.
Totally agree with Skid about rhythm guitar. I'm a rhythm guitarist, I don't know any scales or solos or any of that stuff. I like to say I play guitar AT people.
Re: The way it is written banter from up top. It is written assuming you get hero points at the beginning of every sess as well as when you do something cool
Free Action Kate!
Little did they know, the Big Boss of the campaign was a snail that was waiting for them by some river rocks.
That was some face melting air triangle.
They're going to be so mad when they finally get into town and the locals are all like, "Christ, you tried to cross Murder Snail River?!?! No one's done that in two hundred years!!"
Also, are we not going to talk about how Brother Ramius totally killed that kid? Even when that episode aired at the time, I had a niggling concern when Ramius rejoined the group and was like, "the kid's fine, don't worry about him."
Matthew: I wonder how I can come back from this...
Hedgehog noises
Matthew: eff it, Imma go into the light
"It is time... to let go", had me thinking of Alien 3 as Ripley drops into the lead.
Love skid with the casual Kevin Smith reference
Kevin who? Was he that dancer who was married to Britney Spears?
Especially given the history of bad blood, albeit one way.
Kate, for what it’s worth, I tend to agree with ALL your opinions.
Come snail away with me!
Im snailing I am snailing across the water across the sea. To be near you to be free
Iiiiiiii'm snailing aywaaaaaaay.....
SPOILER ALERT
I hope we can have a Thaumaturge in the party now that Tallitha is gone. The class is a powerhouse in damage and also will improve the party's in-combat knowledge of creatures quite a lot.
I gotta see Hubert animation saving brother ramous
OMG...I love it! Im relatively new to GCN, but i love a campaign with stakes! Well played all. You guys are must watch RPG. Can't wait for the next session!
Its ok guys I brought 50 sacks of salt 😢
I know it must seem incredibly cumbersome to get back up in PF2e once you get downed. But it is one of the main ways that the system prevents the usual "yo-yo" healing that happens in other systems, when characters keep getting back up every round, with some systems even making it the optimal choice to let characters get KO'd and then be brought back.
After a few levels, the chance of getting downed in single hits gets greatly reduced, it gives the party (and the enemies) more wiggle room to work with. Except Casters, they're still super fragile until after level 10, since having 100HP is the sweet spot.
Ahhh, there goes my favourite character. Somehow I felt it coming. Excited to see what will come of it, though
OMG the commercial for Impossible Landscapes!
Great episode.
Session Zero was 8 months ago. In the first 18 minutes, they talk about Troy killing Matthew's character, crossing a river and flashbacks.
No spoilers, but this episode should have been entitled "A Tale of Joe O'Brian In Two Acts." 😅🤣
God there are SO many natural 1s this campaign!
Tilitha and the Snail is a great band name.
Brilliant opening scene.
Top notch bant today. Lol
Only two Grateful Dead albums they really tried at: American Beauty and Workingman’s Dead, both absolutely wonderful.
Skid with the Monarchs jersey after the KC trip. Nice.
Good ep. Hard to run difficult combats and I like seeing people get frustrated at hard campaigns. This is how the hobby goes sometimes. As long as everyone is chill theres no reason to cut around it. (Not that i suspect it has been, but on other channels im sure that’s not so)
Re: Bant. That's called "Nipple Bass", Troy.
When kate was doing the air triangle i was hearing ding fries are done ding fres are done
49:57 That's this week's RUclips Short sorted.
That ad for Get in the Trunk season 6 is fire! What happened at the frat party? I NEED to know Joe!
Quick question, and it might be a little silly-Matthew mentioned off-handedly in his character introduction video that Talitha's background was Wanderlust, and according to the player's guide, that would mean her deviant ability would be of the troll classification. Eerie Flicker (as mentioned in this episode) seems to be tied to the Sense of Belonging background, and is of the wraith classification. I know it doesn't matter at this point, and I don't bring it up to point out a mistake, if there even was one (which I doubt). It just grabbed my attention, and I couldn't stop from wondering lol. Inquiring minds want to know, as they say
I should’ve prefaced this by saying that I’m very unfamiliar with the system, and it’s very likely that I completely misunderstood something or other. That’s mainly why I’m curious
Troy thanks for doing what you do. 23:15, ye I had a couple of those. Is a feeling like death came and said 'hey there, having fun' ?' 😅😂😂
This is my favorite opening for gatewalkers so far!!😆🎸🎶🎹🪗🎷🎺🎻🪕🥁🪘🪇🪈
This combat is so EFFIN EPIC, there are no words! **.**
Well dang that was intense! What a roller coaster of critical rolls! I can't wait to see how Matthew will enter as a new character.
That Nat 20... epic, those are the moments you remember.
Dammit! What a rollercoaster! Sad though.
Great, tense episode!
Spoiler Alert!!!!!!
Oof, brutal for "we know who" but at least it was a hero's death by saving another!
Hey Troy - you can increase the Padding in foundry VTT (empty USABLE space beyond the map image , for future reference.
Great episode! Three questions:
1. WHO IS CARRYING THE FRUIT?
2. Can you all please check your character sheets / inventories before recording each episode?
3. When was the last time somebody used a deviant trait? Did you forget they existed?
Im more convinced than ever that the whole underpowered party issue can be fixed with a slightly faster lvl up
I totally get not liking how a bottlecap breaks the narrative its kinda like an xtra life video game thing
But we have a low loot campaign and a low level party which compounds the problem
But if you lvl slightly faster to compensate what saves them is thier own skills not a get out of jail free card
They're actually on level according to the AP. Whether or not the AP is actually balanced is a different question, of course, but it's not something we can blame on Troy.
For the love of all that is holy, you can battle medicine yourself!
In the HIGH likelihood someone dies, and IF this is Castrovel, the players should be forced to make a Lashunta
You know what just occurred to me
Your party lacks a min maxing munchkin who's not above the teeniest bit of metagaming in order to keep the party safe tactically
Like not a really really bad munchkin but your group gets really into the narrative and sometimes overlooks what the tactically best option would be for the sake of the roleplay
Grant would have pulled a 80+ damage crit out of his ass this encounter.
ya giantslayer would have had so many deaths had it not been for baron, and the cool thing was that baron was built well and somewhat minmaxed but the character was not sacrificed in the process. i think barons prodigious ability to wreck giant kind made his character that much more interesting
Love Skid wearing the KC Monarchs!!!
At least with the podcast being video Troy has to pay an artist every time he kills a PC, so in a way he is stimulating the economy.
Didn't two of the characters have the ability to turn into animals to help with retreat?
Well, one of them was flailing around in the water already. ;)

I'm gonna miss Talitha, fleeing at the end i feel like was the right choice.
Definitely the right choice. Almost certainly more deaths if they don't flee. They only did like 5 points of damage this episode so unless it was already near death they would have been hard pressed to not lose another PC. Especially since Zephyr didn't have her bow.
I can't wait for this campaign to be fully animated so that fan-made AMVs will be made of TalithaxZephyr's relationship as "the Zephyr Song" by The Red Hot Chili Peppers plays in the background.

Great combat despite the rolling difficulties. I appreciate your no nonsense view of character death. Troy's tough, but fair, GMing is a major draw for my viewing.

Brutes-MaGoots tonight. Not what I was expecting.
Great episode per usual
I mean couldn't someone just take the ghost dedication?
I want this for Brother Ramius
When characters are dying, it logically detects life.
Theatre of the mind until combat is obvious and inevitable.
I bought one Phish album and made the friend who talked me into buying it pay me back.
Thinking back about what was discussed in the last Cannon Fodder, I really like the risk of death, in that regard I understand Troy, but 2 deaths in 2 levels is too much. It's just ep 35. I agree with Joe that is not that good for the audience to have that many deaths, people want to get attached to the PCs, so when they die is meaningful, but if they start dying left and right, death becomes meaningless eventually.
I know there's people who already gave this suggestion, but I want to join the pledge: Take away the auto save for bottle caps, but permit a re roll of the dying save. That way you keep the risk of death but you give them a chance, and you're more free to give them caps as well without worrying they will ruin the risk of death. A lot of people play with that house rule, maybe it could work for the crew :)
Other than some other worldly stuff in DG (avoiding spoiler for last season), when was the last time they ran from a fight? Giantslayer? Maybe early Aeons?
This was brutal. I had to take 4 different starts to finish it.
Shades of Gormli
Holy good god damn. I wanna say a lot, but I don't wanna spoil ANYTHING.
C'est la vie.
