Black Metal dude here, I don’t hate Cradle, rather love them. I believe that Cradle’s first couple releases are black metal as fuck. Without question, listen to Principle of Evil Made Flesh or Dusk and her Embrace. Simply a symphonic black metal with gothic veins. They made their mark, and sure, they moved on to preform and make a more extreme gothic metal. Cradle fuckin rules
THAT is the tour I would have given anything to see. I was able to see Type O back in 97, October rust, but to have both those major bands together? Damn. Two of my favorite frontmen of all time
I almost got to meet Cradle of Filth almost 9 years ago. I was working at Walmart and their bus was parked outside. Sara Jezabel Deva was walking into the store and I held the door for her. I really wanted to ask her for an autograph but I didn’t want to be “that guy” so I just said I love your music with Cradle and let it be. She said thanks and we went our separate ways. The most ironic part is I was listening to Cruelty Brought Thee Roses on my way to work. Part of me wishes I asked for an autograph but I’m sure they were probably tired of signing things for fans by that point in the tour.
"Queen Of Winter Throned" is still one of my go to 90`s metal tracks when I need cheering up... I don`t give a fu*k what anyone says, Cradle Of Filth are an incredible band!
@danielsatter1805 absolutely, the most amazing Song from this Masterpiece. The Atmosphere is amazing, Danis high pitch Vocals and Nicks Drumming are beyond awesome.
I've been a Cradle fan since I was in high school (late 90s). Learned a few new things about their early days, thank you! You've earned a subscriber \m/
Thanks for making this man. Really made my week. I was driving across states earlier and threw on Dusk and Her Embrace after watching this. It was dawn and the road was just blue with snow covered trees on both sides and it was so perfect hah
Excellent video as always, I'm just surprised you didn't talk about Cradle of Fear, since it absolutely backs up your points about them being into horror flicks and not taking themselves to seriously
Favorite band ever. I actually am a fan of True Black Metal but I never would have discovered that if I didn't begin worshipping Cradle in 2000. Cruelty and the Beast is the greatest album ever
Cradle of filth never gets the credit they deserve. Thier demos were fucking insane. Dani has insane lows. TPOEMF came out when I was 2 lol. I grew up in the deathcore/hardcore scene, but cradle was always one of my favorite bands. I wasn't the only one. That first album, and cruelty and the beast are in the top 10 best metal albums ever.
I've been a Cradle fan since Dusk and I have to thank you. They've been run through the gauntlet, but they've always been great, on that epic level of black metal. Goth, punk, death rock and Cradle. "True" is always subjective. Thank you for this
I bought ‘Cruelty and the Beast’ along with Cannibal Corpse’s Gallery of Suicide’ at the same time because the magazine ‘Metal Maniacs’ was promoting both releases simultaneously. It was a wild summer for me and the start of a long journey down the extreme metal road. 🤘🏻
Over the years I've been an "Elitist" of more than a few music genres, sadly. Every time I've been introduced to something new, musically, I go headlong into it. Metal wasn't any different. But there were a couple of things that made that journey a bit different for me. First, at the time in my life that I got fully introduced to metal, as a whole, the friends that put me on were intelligent about music. While they talked about subgenres like Death, Thrash and Black metal they presented it as a whole with great bands from each category and let me decide what pleased my ears. "Cruelty And The Beast" was my first introduction to COF and Holy Crap was I amazed. It's such a good album. And second, I had gotten to a point in my life where I could appreciate about any offering in a genre that was just genuinely well made. Love or Hate, COF, makes sonically pleasing music. And let's be all the way honest, probably the best merch ever.
Back in the day i bought Vempire just out of curiosity and actually laughed when i played it. The mixture of Quorthon-style vocals over Maiden-style riffs seemed absolutely bananas to me. After another play, i was a fan. Those early albums kill.
Very cool doc, kudos on covering their influences in particular. But they certainly also drew from classic Metal like Iron Maiden in particular, especially in Cruelty And the Beast's guitarwork. I really dont see the issue fellow Black Metal enjoyers have with them either, they were always good...for the most part, but we all occasionally stumble, but their consistency is indeed commendable. Also,Dani having Danzig 4 as a favorite is unfathomably based. Also, epic and awesome sauce Gorgoroth mention...Burn In His Light - The Gorgoroth Story when?
CoF was always a bop to me. Despite whatever people may think of Cradle, their aesthetic was always fun Nicholas Barker could blast faster than anybody in the late 90’s/2000’s and Dani’s ranges in growls are absolutely insane.
This documentary, Metal Evolution-Extreme Metal, here on RUclips has Dani and the band speaking and acting up a but. Overall a great documentary. I love your work! Thank you!
My friend Frankie had that 'Jesus is a c**t' shirt! I remember him telling me the story how he went into a guitar shop and was told to leave by the owner after asking Frank to turn around so he could read the back. I was both in shock and awe of that story! I fucking love you, Frank! Thank you so much for not making me feel like the only metalhead on an island!
I still say Dusk is COF's absolute opus closely followed by Cruelty. Both albums absolutely dominated my stereo back in the day and nearly 30 years later both still get a cranking. 🤘
Say wot u want about Dani but he's fucking amazing live!! Also his lyrical talent blows me away. I'm more of an old skool Cradle fan but a fan for life none the less. The fact that the band is still going after all these years (after many dramas of course) but it is a testament to him. Damnation and a day will forever be one of my favourites 🖤
I was good friends with a ex member of cradle (I didn’t know who he was since I was just getting into my music and I knew he plays bass and guitar) he showed me cradle and mayhem and mercyful fate and he told me he was in cradle and grew up with danny in wrexham. I became super close with his wife and kids… it was my second home I got a long with all of them and love them all so so much. Unfortunately he had passed away a while back in a accident near where we lived I got to see him play once at a tribute gig for his friend… such a kind soul he was always making me laugh and surprising me with the most strangest things like bringing his snake round to my house and scared me 🤣 Love the video man !
CoF will always hold a special place in my heart - i've had the pleasure of meeting them during their DaaD tour and they were all really nice funny dudes.
Her Ghost in the Fog was a staple of my time getting into loud music; the video was always on Kerrang. Because of that I remained inquisitive enough to come back to Cradle years later when my taste got heavier and I do have a soft spot for a lot of their stuff.
The Principle of Evil Made Flesh was my gateway to black metal, and the first album I had to hide from my parents. How I found a copy in small town South Africa in the early 2000's still baffles me but I'm glad that's what I decided to buy that day.
I got suspended from school for the Jesus is a... Shirt. My argument was that it actually did have a positive message because it says IS not WAS implying the belief that He is eternal. Sadly, they didn't buy it 😂
You have Freedom of Speech, i was told to leave class because my Emperor shirt had a pentagram, I brought in my Dad and he backed me up even tho he was also mad at me for wearing it at School and knew it was just Music, he argued over my freedom of speech and how there was no Uniform policy at the time, I was allowed in class the next day, they can stick it!!! wore it proudly. Here in America we have a right to wear whatever the fuck we want.
Hung out with some of these dudes on Ozzfest ‘03. Gave Dave Pybus my Agents of Oblivion tshirt (not knowing who he was)when he asked about it. Super cool band.
Cradle of Filth also used to have a t-shirt that had "Metal Forged From The Hot Friction Of Wanking Nuns" on the back. One of the things people used to accuse them of back in the day was being kinda try-hardy, which was interesting because so much of an assortment of slices of the metal scene were super fucking try-hardy. I always figured they were just very happy to pull the piss, tbh.
Sure with how many members have come and gone they are more "Dani and the Filths" now, that really can't take away how good they have been over the years. I always liked how they where the last band before Christmas for a few years on the london part of the kerrang Xfest's as well.
I've been listening to CoF almost daily for decades!! They're unmatched in the extreme metal scene and you can't find a duplicate!!! CoF is the band that so many people hate on but they secretly love listening to!!😂 Haven't talked to a metalhead (especially black metalheads) that don't say they like them. Hail to the Filth!!! 🤘🤘
Oh yes this was my first black metal band I got into the emperor and demiborga thanks to cof never see any of em live one day one day love da video keep em coming u keep doing band I love! And u do em well ps lamb of god and obituary I love to see in a video just a idea keep em coming love from south africa 🤘
I personally love everything CoF did in the 90's. Not so much the albums after "Cruelty"... They did some banger Iron Maiden covers though! And Dani is a literary genius, you can't deny that... His lyrics are insanely well-crafted!
Know what’s funny? Everybody knows the Geezer Butler story about the black shadow on the side of his bed, but every time he tells it there’s little differences in the story 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I remember buying the Venom album Welcome to Hell as an import based on the cover itself. At the time I was into Black Sabbath, but that album was totally not what I expected.
Their first 4 albums is all you need. Dusk and Cruelty are untouchable, supreme masterpieces.
I was also super lucky to see Type O Negative open up for Cradle right after Pete Steele got out of prison
THAT is the tour I would have given anything to see.
I was able to see Type O back in 97, October rust, but to have both those major bands together? Damn. Two of my favorite frontmen of all time
"Even if the Midian record is shit..." WTF? That album is S tier.
Fully agree!
It was the releases after Midian that got pretty bad...
S = shit? Yeah, agreed.
Compared to Vempire, Dusk and Cruelty, it's inferior. Compared to most albums out there, it's good.
Midian isn’t shit at all, at least in my humble opinion. The Demos all the to Midian is goated as fuck.
This channel stands among the highest quality documentaries I've ever seen. Not just music but of all.
I could not agree more with the above statement!
Definitely agree, this is an amazing channel.🤘
Totally! \m/
Saw Cradle live about 4 weeks ago and they still sound absolutely fantastic. Thnx for this docu!
Nicholas Barker is one of my favorite drummers, love his work with Dimmu Borgir, Old Man's Child
Best music documentary channel on RUclips. Fight me if you disagree lol
"Queen Of Winter Throned" is still one of my go to 90`s metal tracks when I need cheering up...
I don`t give a fu*k what anyone says, Cradle Of Filth are an incredible band!
Agree 100%
Vempire is an insane record!
Finally lol I been waiting for this one. Dimmu Borgir or Behemoth next please. Anorexia Nervosa for extra credit 😊
hell yeah need demon burger next
Ow fuck yes, Anorexia Nervosa!!!
And Hecate Enthroned.
Thanks for the Anorexia Nervosa reminder, used to listen to them on repeat!
I have bought almost their entire discography on CD.
Midian and Bitter Suites To Succubi will always be my favorites
No joke a couple of weeks ago I was looking for a good documentary on this band. I’m glad I found yours.😊😊
Thumbnail from the best Era of the Band, 96-97. Vempire plus Dusk and her Embrace still the best Records from Cradle.
Vempire is such an amazing record. Queen of Winter throned 🤯🤘🤘🤘
@danielsatter1805 absolutely, the most amazing Song from this Masterpiece. The Atmosphere is amazing, Danis high pitch Vocals and Nicks Drumming are beyond awesome.
Dusk all day man! That's what got me into them.
Midian is legendary don't forget that one
@@Startafnwar Beauty Slept in Sodom might actually be my most favorite CoF song.
1. Cruelty & the beast - 2. Dusk & her embrace - 3. Midian - top 3 cradle albums fight me 😂
I am not sure if it counts, but Bitter suites to succubi was pretty cool too.
The principal of evil made flesh
Cruelty.... and Dusk..... share the first 1Place than comes Midian
Listen to Vempire.
1. Cruelty 2. Dusk 3. Principle - for me anyway.
thanks for being authentic and making the best music documentaries on youtube!
Luckily the cop didn't show up to ruin your day.
Excellent video as always, I'm just surprised you didn't talk about Cradle of Fear, since it absolutely backs up your points about them being into horror flicks and not taking themselves to seriously
cool doc, thanks for the cover. you basically cover all my favs, so we have all the same favs. cheers
I played mostly Cradle at my haunted house back in 2005. People thought it was the devil's music. It was great.
Favorite band ever. I actually am a fan of True Black Metal but I never would have discovered that if I didn't begin worshipping Cradle in 2000. Cruelty and the Beast is the greatest album ever
This was awesome, now I have go thru their discography again!
Great doco and great band! Dusk And Her Embrace blew me away when I first listened to it back in the nineties.
Cradle of filth never gets the credit they deserve. Thier demos were fucking insane. Dani has insane lows. TPOEMF came out when I was 2 lol. WOW, that was a great documentary / story about this band. And I now many facts about them. Keep up the good work! 👍
F'n love this Band. I don't care how this type of music is called, the Bands just bloody awesome!
Love me some Cradle, regained the entire discography on CD, now working on vinyl/cassette 🖤
Great video as always, thank you!

Subbed. You should put a year at the end of the quotes you do. Its so cool to know what artists think at various points in their lives.
Noted!
COF was. Such a big part of my teenage years. I could never stop listening to them 🖤
Back in the day i bought Vempire just out of curiosity and actually laughed when i played it. The mixture of Quorthon-style vocals over Maiden-style riffs seemed absolutely bananas to me. After another play, i was a fan. Those early albums kill.

This is brilliant. Nice one dude
Now this is a documentary ive been waiting for
Midian was my introduction to Cradle! Love that album!!
I used to listen to Dusk And Her Embrace all day every day for a year straight when it first came out
Cheers Cobba love yah work ,always loved them all styles of metal so good the olde Cradles.
16:50 I remember an article in a magazine where Dani Filth was hugging plush toys … monster plush toys!
They prob stopped calling CoF black metal the moment Cradle stopped recording with tin cans in a hollowed out vault.
They're sound quality was too good to be black metal😂
They never had shit quality recordings except for early demo tapes
CoF was always a bop to me. Despite whatever people may think of Cradle, their aesthetic was always fun Nicholas Barker could blast faster than anybody in the late 90’s/2000’s and Dani’s ranges in growls are absolutely insane.

Stoked!
CoF has the most amazing live shows. Probably have seen them around five times now and it’s always a pleasure.
This one was definitely a killer video buddy 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Just think too, no more dealing with the Fraud McKinty this year lol
Cruelty and the Beast and Venus Aversa will always be my favorite COF albums but I liked Hammer of the Witch and Cryptonia were cool too.
I was good friends with a ex member of cradle (I didn’t know who he was since I was just getting into my music and I knew he plays bass and guitar) he showed me cradle and mayhem and mercyful fate and he told me he was in cradle and grew up with danny in wrexham. Love the video man !
Damnation and a Day is my favorite album of theirs.
Always look forward to these vids
Saw Cradle Of Filth a few years back with Danzig!! I took My son, it was our first Metal concert together. and it was awesome!
I still love this band and always will. Cradle was my gateway into extreme Metal! Dusk , Cruelty, and Midian are sacred albums to me.
Great documentary.... as always ... thankyou
CoF will always hold a special place in my heart - i've had the pleasure of meeting them during their DaaD tour and they were all really nice funny dudes.
Great documentary and interesting angle! Well done!
dusk and their embrace probably their best album
Her Ghost in the Fog was a staple of my time getting into loud music; the video was always on Kerrang. Because of that I remained inquisitive enough to come back to Cradle years later when my taste got heavier and I do have a soft spot for a lot of their stuff.

Wicked doco dude ❤ 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Awesome.. ty ty 🙌🤘🤘🤘
Fantastic dive into CoF. I've always liked them as well.
After more than 25 years, still one of my absolute favourite bands of all time. 🤘🖤
Love COF!
Love the SIGH mention too 🤘
Absolutely love COF saw them earlier this year and Dani and the band are still f ing awesome
I got suspended from school for the Jesus is a... Shirt.
My argument was that it actually did have a positive message because it says IS not WAS implying the belief that He is eternal.
Sadly, they didn't buy it 😂
😂

Awesome documentary!
“Dusk and Her Embrace” was the first black metal album I ever bought and it absolutely confused and terrified my little 16 year old brain.
and thus our metal journey had began lol
It was a real eye opener
Top notch mate
Nothing will ever beat Principles and Vempire. Stunning records.
25:41 it means that they are pop Halloween metal!
I’m sure Varg did not agree with Euonymous about them
Lol Varg is an absolute childish loser who cares what he thinks
Slayer, possessed was something that inspired Dani, while damnation and a day promise of fever is what blew me away when I was 12.
You missed V empire. An ep but an outstanding release. "The queen of winter, throned " undoubtedly one of their best tracks
great work.
Awesome to hear Dani had a similar upbringing to mine lol. 🤘
Love the Filth! Got to see them back in 2016 when they were touring on the Hammer of the Witches album, such a great fucking band!
Been a fan since 98 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Cradle of Filth also used to have a t-shirt that had "Metal Forged From The Hot Friction Of Wanking Nuns" on the back. One of the things people used to accuse them of back in the day was being kinda try-hardy, which was interesting because so much of an assortment of slices of the metal scene were super fucking try-hardy. Great Comment, also interesting.
😂Forgot about that.
This is so much better than the og Behind The Music 💯👊🏻🤘🏻

Hail to the Filth!!! 🤘🤘
Oh yes this was my first black metal band I got into the emperor and demiborga thanks to cof never see any of em live one day one day love da video keep em coming u keep doing band I love! And u do em well ps lamb of god and obituary I love to see in a video just a idea keep em coming love from south africa 🤘
Demiborga LOOOL.
Wouldn't mind seeing one of these docs on a few bands, Emperor, Hecate Enthroned, Deicide, American Head Charge, and 36 Crazyfists
Their 90s and early 2000 albums are great. Had couple of their cool shirts also.
I personally love everything CoF did in the 90's. Not so much the albums after "Cruelty"... They did some banger Iron Maiden covers though! And Dani is a literary genius, you can't deny that... His lyrics are insanely well-crafted!
Back in 2003 I saw cof and type O negative together beyond awesome 👍👍👍👍
Hash Gordon is a dope name. I saw them with Type O Negative. Great time.
Know what’s funny? Everybody knows the Geezer Butler story about the black shadow on the side of his bed, but every time he tells it there’s little differences in the story 🤣🤣🤣🤣
surely you're not suggesting that geezer made the story up? heaven forbid! 🤣
@@Mognam heavens no! I would never suggest such a 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks bro awesome
I remember buying the Venom album Welcome to Hell as an import based on the cover itself. At the time I was into Black Sabbath, but that album was totally not what I expected.
You do excellent work, my friend! I look forward to all your videos. AND you don't use Wikipedia. I'm sorry, I had to. 😂
