I broke 90 yesterday for the first time! Watching this and your other videos has helped me tremendously. I’ve finally realized that I have to manage my game, every shot, every day! Do what I know I can do and stay away from things I’m not confident doing. My thinking has completely changed! Thanks David

How refreshing to have lessons on smart golf, not power golf. So much rubbish about "this simple move will give you 300 yard drives!" I'm 64, off 16, and don't ever think I am going to hit it 270 metres. Best ever as a younger man would be 230-240. Thank you David for showing viewers how to score by playing within their limitations to score better. Great stuff.

Extremely useful. Very easy to follow and to apply on the course. Took my two years to realize the impact of bad lies and me ensuring to get th ebal back in play opposite to going for the pin

"If you can't pull off a shot at least 70% of the time, don't do it."
I LOVE this! How many times do we see people trying a shot that would make a pro think twice, and saying " I can do this. I can hit that far. I've put this shot on the green before." Yes, but how often?
Two things come into play here. One, some people only remember their great shots. That one shot in 5 or 10. They base their shot and club selection on that. They try a shot they can only pull of one time in seven or eight, and they try it with the wrong club because they only think about how far that club goes when they absolutely flush it.
Or, and this is less common, you have a more sober player who does think more in terms of what they can do on average. But they don't include ALL their shots when they think of average. They forget the miss hits, and think of the average of their good strikes. Again, this leads them to underclub a lot of the time, though not as often or as badly as the other player. So they come up short and a little offline a lot, generally into front guarding bunkers.
It also leads them to try longer shots into smaller or more tightly guarded greens where maybe they are better off laying up to a large safe target that a) they can hit with a shot they've got a very good chance of playing well, and b) gives them a good, straightforward look at the next shot. Say, laying up short of the green right in front of the opening between the flanking bunkers. Somewhere they can play a nice running shot like a long chip or shorter running pitch. Something they have a very good chance of getting within 10-20 feet for a 2 putt and a bogey. This is easier than going for the green and ending up somewhere difficult, like a greenside bunker, or the back side of a sloping mound, or down in a hollow, or deep rough. Some place where you face a much more challenging short game shot, and a more difficult "get on and two putt" sequence.
Even after all these years, I still believe it comes back to two simple rules I read in a Tommy Armour book way back when I was a teen. They are as follows:
Play the shot you have the best chance of playing well, and:
Play the shot that makes the next shot easy.
I've never seen it put better than that.

Another excellent video David. From now on I will always ask one question once I’m in the fairway, “Can I reach the green or the fringe with a shot I can play 70% of the time?” If the answer is “no” I will break the distance down to shots where my second shot will allow me to look for an up and down.
I really enjoy your very relaxed swing and your very relaxed delivery tone. Golf should be relaxing and stress free - almost boring!

A question I always ask my lessons ‘Can you hit the green in one shot?’
If the answer is no , then the next question is ‘What’s the simplest way to get there in two?’
Use this approach to plot your way down a hole.

2:00 if want to break 100 there is no such thing as par. Forget the term altogether.
4:50 take a 5 or 6 iron hit fwy, hit short of green on for 3 or 4 and 2 putt.
Bogey or DB is still a good score.

    • @TheResourcefulCoach
      @TheResourcefulCoach  5 месяцев назад

A par will always make it easier to break 100, but don't put yourself under pressure to do it. Finish the round with the same ball, and 9 bogies with 9 doubles will score 99.

I just realised that all too often, in thick grass, I take a practice shot that barely touches the grass, not knowing where the ground actually is. My results are VERY inconsistent.

One of my short videos I go through the fact that the weight of the club will get down to the bottom of the grass, trust it and it will happen
