As a loyal BMW fan for years, and a current X3 M40i owner, this new X3 is a slap in the face. I was ready to buy with a 20% discount, but the interior? Absolute garbage-cheap plastic everywhere, even the door handles feel like junk! At this price, it's an insult to customers. BMW, you’ve lost your touch, and it’s pushing us die-hards to look at other brands. Seriously, wake up before you drive your loyal fans away!
We have a '22 X3 M40i coming up on lease end in a month. Thought this might be a good option but not....Current vehicle has only low 20K mileage, so worth more that lease payoff. Going to keep the '22.
No opening sunroof and those interior plastics are the two biggest disappointments in my eyes. Imagine how that interior will look after 3/4 years of ownership
The interior will or won't hold up in conjunction with the care and attention, or lack thereof, the owner provides it. As far as the sunroof, get a 2024 or older X3 or a different BMW SUV. 💁🏾♀️
Too much plastic!!!!!! I don’t like the plastic door handles and the BS lack of ambient lighting in the rear plus I want the sunroof to work like my ‘23. I definitely will be writing them!!!
I like it but it seems a major drop in interior quality vs the G01 series though. It's basically a sacrifice over the interior quality with traditional buttons/controls and the opening sunroof for a far superior chassis and the best of the B58 engine and performance. I reckon once this is on a dyno as stock it'll show higher than declared horsepower and torque, maybe 420 horsepower and 580 Nm here in the UK.
Love the powertrain. The B58 has incredible power and is super efficient. Not to mention it’s smooth and very reliable. But I’m not super fond of the look… especially the off-center front camera and radar. I also think the interior is cheaper feeling and I don’t like the lack of physical buttons and the lack of a shifter. And I really don’t like the lack of a moonroof that opens. This car seems more EVish to me. If I wanted one of those, I’d get one. I’m very glad we got an X3 M40i before the redesign. We LOVE it!!!
I saw the new X3 in person and I must say (exterior wise) it looks much better in person compared to the pics of it online. I prefer the last X3 more but I can see people buying this new one if the new interior doesn’t put them off.
Last gen G01 has been a great vehicle . Mine was one of the first off the production line in 2018. Definitely ready for this new one . Very forward design and looks awesome
I think BMW did an excellent Job with The New X3. The exterior is definitely a step up and I have no problem with the interior either. I think it looks stylish and sporty.
As I said in my print review also, some people would actually see no issue with this car. Just had to point out some of the things would bother me from my point of view. In the end, I still recommend this car.
While the exterior look is growing on me, the interior still looks cheap. I don't like the "minimalist" (a.k.a. cost reduction) dashboard, and I really hate the door panels, and especially the lack of ambient light for the back passengers. My kids are not going to like it there. The interesting ambient light in the front does not compensate for the cost cutting done on all other interior parts. Will have to test it in person, but from the videos I've seen, it does not seem like a premium interior. My X1 has a more interesting interior, so not sure I will be upgrading to X3. Audi Q5 looks muuuch better

Great review, Horatiu. Feel like the exterior styling is something we'll get used to, and glad to hear that it drives well. It really comes down to whether potential buyers can live with the interior. Not sure I understand BMW's design choices there - just seems very cheap for a $70K vehicle (X3 M50 config).

I don't know wtf is with that non opening roof? maybe because not many people really open them anymore??? haha, I mean if I ever got a newer x3(2018-20, I like the m4oi of course) i would open the sunroof 24-7 because it better work after 15yrs of perfecting
if you all remember the BMW 1 series at the back? Just picture that and have that bump up to this.... the back of the 1 series looks the same as this with the tail lights now looks like the X, when two halves of them are combined
It has some really good technology going up in for it. But what's not happening are the headlamps (including DRLS), Front Grill design and the back which looks like someone has scooped out the ice cream and left the box hanging out.
I’m a 4 time BMW owner and was looking to buy the new X3. Unfortunately they are not supplied in a diesel in Australia. I love diesel’s as maintenance costs are lower and you drive comfortably 1100 kilometres on a tank of diesel. My new car will be a Touareg by VW. It is a 3litre diesel with a boot space of 650 litres which is 20% larger. The price is similar to the X3 but you get a large SUV and you get what you want which is a diesel. BMW needs to sell what people want and not what your woke executives want.

I just bought the '24 X3 M40i and really enjoy it so far. As for the '25 X3 M50 I'm not a big fan of that front grill at all...don't like those slats that make it look closed. The slight extra power and quad exhaust is a plus but nothing that would make me want to run out and trade in my M40i. Nice review. 👍
When I put my ‘23 X3 M40i in Eco Mode it makes me nauseous…it stays in Comfort until I want to show off next to a Tesla. I switch to Sport and rev high so they know their car can only barely whisper to me!!!!
I like the metal door handles on my new X2, they look great and are easy to grab. The interior overall on the X2 actually looks more upscale than this car. Maybe the non opening skylight is a Northern Europe thing, the X2 get it as part of the premium package. It’s too bad the X3 got stuck with one as well. Maybe it’s the short gloomy days a lot of the year. BMW is going to get an earful on that from US customers. If I had a choice I wouldn’t bother getting one, I pretty much never use moonroofs anyway. Anyway. The car drives terrifically so I’m enjoying it.
Take the X5! I'm a X5 F15 3.0 diesel driver, I've bought the car brand new ten years ago. An X5 offers you everything you need! No reason to hesitate. Piano black crap? Forget it! Also the X3 has very few interior colors. Which is a bug downside. I have terracotta color leather btw 👍.
What do you think about buying the first model year of this redesign? Will any of the shortcomings (e.g. lack of opening roof) be addressed in year 2 do you think?
Bud said “stylish X3”. What a joke, sales are down on the dukec designed cars, and this one will likely suffer the same. Incohesive design language and cheap looking interior. What a shame. Used prices for recent models are going to increase across the board.
Thank you for bringing this review. Sadly, all my worry becomes true. Great to drive and engine but interior materials/design big big disappointment. The new SQ5 much better in that department.
@@bmwblog it will be a very hard choice for consumers. X3 M50 drives better, great engine but nothing else. For the same money, the new SQ5 will not handle and drive as good as the X3 but the quality of the materials used inside and what you get for your money, sigh, very difficult to decide which to buy.
@@bmwblog yes,I'm getting rid of my mustang because I have a daughter but I don't wanna lose performance and I think this car would be a solid option, plus wife loves it 😂
I have 2022 M40i and weight is lower, also 48V mild hybrid, also 4.4sec to 60, and the interior is classic beautiful. The 2025 steering wheel looks like VW touch button style (poor) and the screens looks like Mercedes, but whatever point being is, there is nothing I like and the new car. I would not take it even if they wanted to exchange my '22 with $0 payment. Extra torque makes nothing because you have heavier car. I hope the door closing does nice "thud" like VW, because the only complaint I have about 2022 is the door, and cabin noise, but it was made during covid and shortage so I forgive
And no physical buttons! Wow this will be the worst selling X3 of all times. I drove VW Atlas with no buttons and it was Horrible! IMO the 2022 design was the best combination of classy and tech and intuitive simple dash
Can you comment on seat comfort vs. M40i? Have they improved the seat comfort at all? Notably I feel the M40i seats lack some padding and the seat bottom bolstering is too aggressive.
@@leslieham4550 bmw now designs this car primarily for chinese market and mainland chinese customer. north america and europe are no longer the intended customer.
With almost no exceptions, car reviewers and buyers alike have roundly said that they want PHYSICAL BUTTONS for the HVAC controls, but BMW isn’t listening!
Overall, Genesis spends a lot of money on quality these days. So they do come ahead of the Germans sometimes. I need to sit again in one, it has been a while.
@@bmwblogthanks for the response! I have a 2022 GV70 and no other car close to its price has been able to get me out of it. This new X3 has my attention though
To be honest, I like this new model. For many people like me, this car will be our first BMW that we could afford. Others please stick to your non-plastic / super interior cars 😊
And saw an article review the other day which sums up the issue with the new X3 quite well. It is like BMW set a budget of X for the new ICE X3 development and all the money was spent on the engine, chassis, mild hybrid, external design etc and there was just no money or very little left for the interior design and to be precise the choice of materials. So it is a product half complete. A what it could have been if they had more money product. Would you buy any product knowing that??
@@bmwblog hehe we try. Ultimately sales number will tell. Ask BMW how many 5er Ls have they sold in China so far. I am sure they thought the equally "cheap/cost cutting" 5er L would still sell bucket loads in China.
Quad exhaust on a m-lite is wild, also the design is absolutely terrible!! Thank god Domagoj Dukec is leaving. Hopefully, we can get some true bmw's here soon with him out of the way and Maximilian Missoni taking his place!!🙏🙌
i think that BMW will eventually bring back the opening option of sunroof . I also wonder if they will bring the 3 litter with the M design not the m50 ?
Every car reviewer: I much prefer physical buttons. Every customer: I much prefer physical buttons. BMW: we know better, stuff your physical buttons 🤦♂️
True but it's also a beaten horse already. We complained a lot and nothing will change for a while. So I think we will also move on from talking too much about it. It's quite obvious by now
@@bmwblogIt is not a beaten horse if the complaints still exist for good reason, especially if it takes the form of lower sales in the long run. We shall see.
@@TestDev-g7mI'm not saying Peugeot or Skoda are bad, they are good, but BMW is supposed to be a step up. That's why you pay a premium. Otherwise, what's the premium for?
Performance may be equal or a little upgraded, but styling definitely several step behind sad to see BMW going this route in the best selling SUV. Plastic, plastic, plastic, terrible interior doors design, sunroof, etc,. BTW I think your camera man needs some ew glasses almost every scene is out of focus.
I have a X3 and it makes a lot of beeping noise while parking in my narrow garage. Is there a way to temporarily mute? I have already reduced the alert volume
Funny thing is keyboard warriors can talk crap about this x3, but RUclips and other social media sites aren’t representative of the car community as a whole. BMW knows their audience and knows that people will buy it. Not only that but the predecessor x3 got so much hate when it first came out, now people thinks it looks so good compared to this 2025 model. People will come around eventually. With that said it’s not ugly. Looks like an ix from some angles, I’m honestly not a big fan of the Idrive 8/9 screen but it’s not the worst infotainment. But overall it’s a nice suv
It’s ugly. 2021 and 2024 X3M owner here. I only do lease on BMW and if X3M looks like this in 2027, I will not lease it again. I will go for X5M probably, this thing is just pure ugly.
Forget about design, what it has come down to for me as a BMW owner and willing to spend say £90k in my next BMW, the materials used in this X3 just do not make any sense. Why would I, why would I waste money on what? Hard cheap plastics all over?
BMWs ALWAYS get hate when they come out. This thing is not nearly as ugly as the first X3. I can actually see it growing on people in a few months and selling like hot cakes. I really dislike the G05 when it first as announced. I own one now and I really find it quite handsome.
@@GoogleOne1 because you don’t like it it will sell even more. F30 was a prime example. It was hated and it sold like nothing else before. I hated the F30 when it came out. A year later I thought it was beautiful, I ended up owning one, which is still my daily driver after 11 years.
Great coverage as always. I actually like the exterior design for the most part but would have liked the front a little more angular and not as bulbous looking. I say that but also realize why someone who is a fan of a traditional BMW looks doesn't like a lot of the new models. Wish the interior felt a little more high quality. To me it just feels like there is way too big of a big of a gap in interior quality between X5 and X3 (compared to X5 and X7) especially with the seats. Overall though, I really like this new X3.
Interior so cheap and nasty now. All nice materials replaced with ugly plastic, and no more opening sunroof. BMW accountants turning a luxury SUV interior into a cheap kia rental interior.
Thank you, appreciate your response. I have one in order and reconsidering because of the interior quality, especially the plastics all around. When I have seen it in person BMW told me the production model will have a better quality of the plastics than the pre-production model and as it seems it’s not the case… I guess it’s a trade off, they let you focus on a nice new steering wheel and infotainment system while sacrificing materials around it. Good review btw, thanks for that as well 👍🏻
I’m glad the engine is still great, and it no longer has a crashy hard suspension but the rest (especially interior and exterior design / quality) is honestly a bit of a let down. Also, straight line sporty runs are not enough to go off in terms of driving / handling performance. BMW M should be a driving machine but this really doesn’t seem to be one, and really doesn’t seem worthy of it’s $65k - $70k price tag IMO
I would have , but they only had the X3 20 there. Which is different than the US X3 30 model. So I focused instead on the M50 since it caters to more markets
@@bmwblogIt’s just disappointing. This is the first generation in a long time that had taken away interior quality rather than improved it. Cost cutting has taken over BMW.
Why doesn't it have opening sunroof as an option?. I don't understand. I like a lot this car but I'm not going to buy it only for the lack of this feature.
Good video - but you gotta work on your interior footage. The autofocus was really annoying and focusing on the hands of the speaker, not the tech inside the car.
wow. Fall from grace is an understatement. An m40i or F97 it’s not even close. The inside of this thing is rental-level. No clue why they’d do this outside of cost also to their detriment. G01/F97 is extremely better. Inside this is just an impossible interior.

Anyway. The car drives terrifically so I’m enjoying it.
Which one to choose BMW x3 M50i for $72000 or BMW x5 40i $75000
I would take the X5. It's still BMW's best product in the end. And it has the same B58 inside.
I have X7 40i already and need another smaller car. X1 to easy, so I wanted to check X3 first. We don’t have diesel here only the gas option.
@@timp8332 - Wait for the facelift X3 model as the current model hasn't got the best quality interior.
The New x3 looks great. How are theee already shipping in NJ?! I saw 3 on a truck headed to dealers this morning. Didn’t even see they debuted this
Production started a while back
Most of the big NJ dealers have them. Check the web sites. Princeton, Edison, Springfield, etc.
What do you think about buying the first model year of this redesign? Will any of the shortcomings (e.g. lack of opening roof) be addressed in year 2 do you think?
Some things will be addressed in facelift. But that's still 3 years away
I have not driven the SQ5, so unfortunately I can't compare the rides. But the M50 drove nice
@@lequnsu4689in the same boat now. What a shame…I slowly came around design but interior quality is really just a step down.
Not an easy one.
Great review, and I'm definitely get one of this in 🇨🇦
M50?
@@bmwblog yes,I'm getting rid of my mustang because I have a daughter but I don't wanna lose performance and I think this car would be a solid option, plus wife loves it 😂
If it's wife approved, all it matters :)
@@bmwblog absolutely 😂
It's in tbe review. I talked about it
Stunning beauty ❤❤❤❤
Absolute stunner.
How is the steering feedback in sport+?
It's good. Better than before.
In Comfort mode, does the steering system feel too heavy for everyday city driving?
No. It's very soft in everyday driving
Who remembers what a balls up Chris Bangle made of the 5 series some while back? Seems like this recent guy can top him!
I do!
Funny that bmw did not learn its lesson regarding styling.
@@nl3712 Guess they want to appeal to the lovers of 'bling' and poor taste - and paying well over the odds for it in the process!
First in the 5 series, now in the x3 we can see cost cuts. If this strategy continues in the g65 x5 I guarantee my g05 will be the last BMW I owned.
Wife has a ‘24 G01 which she loves- Did I hear you right that the ‘25 has no Traffic Jam Assist?
It does have it.
Driving dynamics aside, how would you compare to GV70? Specifically, technology and interior quality
Curious what you think of it after you drive it
Any recommendations: Ordering the 20 or 21“ wheels?

To be honest, I like this new model. For many people like me, this car will be our first BMW that we could afford. Others please stick to your non-plastic / super interior cars 😊
Yea I like it too
😂😂 it’s so fun watching your reviews
When XM decided to marry IX and they have kids. Voila! The new x3! 😂
I think the facelift model will have to come sooner than later, this thing looks like it should have a Kia badge
NO ONE is paying M premium for mini-XM turbo I6 awd. 400 bhp for plastic interior, duh!
The interior is not as bad as people make it to be. We're critical of it, but let's not assume it's very cheap. We just had higher standards overall
@@bmwblog hehe we try. Ultimately sales number will tell. Ask BMW how many 5er Ls have they sold in China so far. I am sure they thought the equally "cheap/cost cutting" 5er L would still sell bucket loads in China.
You would think BMW does market research before rolling out a new model?? Especially, one of their best sellers.
I am sure they do. The only downside of this car is the interior. Other than that, it's pretty good
Quad exhaust on a m-lite is wild, also the design is absolutely terrible!!
They won't. 3 liter is for M50
It's quite obvious by now
@@bmwblog bmw q3 2024 sales figures are a catastrophe. i can only hope it's customers sending a message to bmw that they don't like the new idrive.
@@bmwblogIt is not a beaten horse if the complaints still exist for good reason, especially if it takes the form of lower sales in the long run. We shall see.
What’s the weight of the car?
Welcome to the cost cutting bmw x3. Shocking interior quality. It's behind Skoda and Peugeot.
@@bodrulm1 Why drag Skoda and Peugeot into this?
The parking sensors you mean? There is a way to disable that in the menu
Lol, We will see the sales chart buddy.
Overall, it's still a great product. I think we just expected a bit more luxury, but then again, it's not an X5
@@bmwblogit is an X3 though, and the previous gen X3 was honestly pretty luxurious on the interior.
This won’t end well for BMW…..
Liking the front. Looks like the big boy XM model
Interior so cheap and nasty now. All nice materials replaced with ugly plastic, and no more opening sunroof. BMW accountants turning a luxury SUV interior into a cheap kia rental interior.
@@TMS5100 Actually Kia has better interior.
@bmwblog is this already a production version or still pre-production?
Production version
Thank you, appreciate your response. I have one in order and reconsidering because of the interior quality, especially the plastics all around. When I have seen it in person BMW told me the production model will have a better quality of the plastics than the pre-production model and as it seems it’s not the case… I guess it’s a trade off, they let you focus on a nice new steering wheel and infotainment system while sacrificing materials around it. Good review btw, thanks for that as well 👍🏻
I think its cool the x2 m and the m240 are on my list for 2025 one of them ill get.
M240i Coupe?
@@bmwblog oh yea!
They fixed some things, others are not as great. Like some bits inside
There's no Big grill in 2024 Like M3 and M4?
Can you do the regular M-Sport version, every video on youtube is the M50........ that's not the only one on sale.
I would have , but they only had the X3 20 there. Which is different than the US X3 30 model. So I focused instead on the M50 since it caters to more markets
I’m waiting after signing the M50 contract in Korea
That interior doesn’t look luxurious at all.
Look, I think it is absolutely fantastic, great job BMW!
Just too much plastic inside 😢
I like the new x3, but the door handles and lack of ambient lighting in the rear (unlike the Chinese version of the latest X3) are my only gripes.
I get it, same. But how much do they really matter in the end?
@@bmwblogIt’s just disappointing. This is the first generation in a long time that had taken away interior quality rather than improved it. Cost cutting has taken over BMW.
New BMW mantra: “get less for considerably more money”
thats everyones new motto
@@joesmith9216 you’re right. Hopefully all manufacturers will start and decrease prices once the chinese competition ramps up.

Nothing wrong with the 24.
Thanks. Excellent review. Priceless humor at the opening. Look forward to the long review.
haha glad you enjoyed it. Had to bring social media in :)
I think i will get used bmw x3m
When will the x3 m50 be available in the uk?
My dealer says end of this year
Why doesn't it have opening sunroof as an option?. I don't understand. I like a lot this car but I'm not going to buy it only for the lack of this feature.
They said most people didn't sue the feature. I didn't see the data
Does this version of the B58 have cylinder deactivation?
No
The eyes remind me of E60 5 series
Good video - but you gotta work on your interior footage. The autofocus was really annoying and focusing on the hands of the speaker, not the tech inside the car.
I know. There were a few seconds of blue. Sometimes we simply don't have the time to refilm. You have one shot and limited time.
When can we buy in the US?
Now
wow. Fall from grace is an understatement. An m40i or F97 it’s not even close. The inside of this thing is rental-level. No clue why they’d do this outside of cost also to their detriment. G01/F97 is extremely better. Inside this is just an impossible interior.
