- As Thorin Oakenshield, the leader of the company of dwarves that accompany Bilbo on his journey, Richard Armitage has a huge part in Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." He not only looks the part, but he can lead a group of dwarves in song.
Tribute.ca spoke with Richard in New York about taking on the role, getting prepared to play a dwarf and the injuries he sustained in the battle scenes.

I grew up reading The Hobbit, and Richard NAILED this role. I am not disappointed.
He is the best Thorin I could imagine!
when he says "oh shit", it still sound so adorably polite, like wtf man. how are you this gorgeous too??!
he's so shy! i love him and such a great actor! i loooove thorin!
He's my dream man. I wish there were more like him!
hella late but i recently watched the hobbit again and i'm on a Richard Armitage marathon. and all i have to say is, Richard Armitage could read the longest books in the world to me and i could never get tired of his voice.
When I'm watching those 100500 youtube videos with Richard, I think about that - I really want to be such an affable person like he is. Maybe someday. It's just amazing and priceless.
Wow I feel dumb I didnt know what affable meant but thanks for using a real word.Good word to know! Thanks :D
His character is a master piece! His interpretation is brilliant, I wish some day I could chat with him about all the faces this character has and his majestic interpretation. I cry everytime Thorin die, I just can't handle it. You did it perfect Mr. Armitage! Bravo!!🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Richard Armitage... You've not disappointed me AT ALL!
I know that his conversation with Bilbo at the end of the Battle of the Five Armies is going to make me cry.
It made me cry so much lol. Even now, when I watch the movies again I can't help crying when this scene happenes. It is so well written and acted.
I liked him as Guy in Robin Hood and I liked him as Thorin at The Hobbit. But I have to say when he talked like that about Gary Oldman I liked him even more. He seems to have some standards as an actor and I love that. Gary Oldman is really the definition of the word "actor" and I'm glad Richard Armitage understands that and that it's actually what made him decide to be an actor. I'm looking forward to see more from Richard Armitage! :)
He is SO shy I love it
I wish he was picked to play Batman... just to see him swoop down the night sky and engage in combat would be soooo epic!
and the deep voice.... lol
I just love Bonnies interviews. She´s the best. Love her big time.
I've watched almost all of these and it cracks me up how much the interviewer loves Andy Serkis
I burst out laughing when he said "oh shit."
I thought I was the only one 😉
The voice melts me. Hotttttt!
Yes Mr Armitage, your face would still be beautiful even with a great big bruise! ^.^ ♥
Wow he is just as hot without the beard ^_^
Rightttt! :D
Beautiful Man
He looks sooooo tired
I find that the interviewer walked into each question very confidently, and for some reason she ended up finishing almost all of them with "*pauses* really?" or "*pauses* seriously?" Not sure if it was intentional but it was a tiny bit odd.
i would pay big money to see the cast cooking at each others' houses when they were filming. big money lol.
awesome
Me too! Haha Warner should release an official Dwarvish cookbook too!!!
Come dwarf with me?
I think he made him a tiny bit more staunch than the book, but damn, he did a hell of a job.
Even though the questions were good questions... I got totally annoyed by the interviewee.. Idk how exactly but there was something about her voice and how she stated the questions that made it rather unbearable to watch (thank you Richard for helping with the pain of the interview)
I think the interviewer was smitten with him. As every woman would be
