A very informative video, but I'd like to add:
    - If your blood sugar spikes after eating whole oats, it could be because you are using oat milk. Oat milk is an ultra-processed oat product, where enzymes are used to degrade the starches and soluble fibers. Drinking oat milk is similar to drinking a can of coke. In addition, ensure that you are not using a commercial oatmeal product that is loaded with sugar..
    - Beta-glucans and polyphenols in oats not only coat the intestinal lining, they have 2 additional mechanisms of lowering blood sugar. 1. they increase the viscosity in the intestine, which leads to slower diffusion of starches, which leads to slower enzymatic processing by glucosidases and amylases, and 2. they physically bind to (sequester) glucosidases and amylases, thus preventing them from binding to starches to degrade them.

Reduce the cook time of steel cut by soaking in boiled water over night. Measure out oats put into a container like a bowl or jar. Add equal vol of boiled water. Once cool, put in fridge over night (will last a few days). Heat for about 5 minutes with more water to desired consistency. Serve with toppings as desired. Fresh berries, diced dried fruits, almonds, sunflower seeds, walnuts, flax seed, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves are delicious and give you a more rounded meal. If you add enough water while heating, don't need milk of any type. Enjoy!

What you failed to mention in your excellent video is that, nearly all Oats are sprayed just prior to harvesting with a fungicide. This is to aid Storage, true Organic Oats are not sprayed whatsoever. Flahavans are unique in this category.

Oat groats (which are the grain with the husk removed and not cut or rolled) can be soaked in water overnight, drained & then eaten with yogurt, berries. They are chewy because they are the kernel! This is the lowest glycemic index version of oats if one is Prediabetic/Diabetic (tho some may still find even the groats spike blood sugar too much)

I.e. not cooked at all, so slow absorption rate & poss less insulin spike

Flahavan's make a product called Organic Jumbo Oats, which are larger and thicker. I find they take about 10-12 minutes to cook using just water. I also add some fresh apple and mixed seeds along with nutmeg, ginger and sweet cinnamon. I've not experienced a sugar high from this breakfast and it does keep me going for nearly 8 hours.

I eat those as muesli most days and was just rereading info on pack which sounds seductive. It says that the outer layer is used to burn and that heat steams them. Does that mean that we are getting a more refined, processed product. Anyway I have only just started listening so hope dr elucidates.

      I eat that product too.
I cover with a bit of boiling water and let them soak for a minimum of 5 minutes before cooking them on the hob. I mainly cook in water, if you stir continuously it makes it creamy, I do add a small amount of almond milk near the end of cooking.

My Recipe which I found useful for losing weight with a much reduced sugar content for when I had type 2 Diabetes.
I mixed it into a plastic Dispensing container with a flip lid. This lasts me for 10 days using 1 cupful per day (100 g).
Personally I dispense mine adding the water & soak overnight into a glass bowl, ready to Microwave first thing in the morning
1 Kilo Flahavans Organic porridge oats. Jumbo or std
40 g. True Ceylon Cinnamon . No other type.
    40 g. Organic Ginger
No Sugar. Sweeteners. Honey, Fruit etc.
Mix the above thoroughly and place into the container.
Dispense 1Cup of mixed Oats to 2 cups of cold water.
If this makes too much use smaller cup or portion of cup. Keep to 2:1 ratio unless you prefer a thinner porridge.
    I use a 900 watt microwave & cook for 3 min 50 secs
    Adjust for your appliance.
You will not need any sweetener as this is perfectly palatable as is.
Note: long term use of non organic Ceylon Cinnamon is not good for you, Ceylon Cinnamon is perfectly safe.
The ground Cinnamon & Ginger is readily available from Amazon.

I have a question about granola. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. I think I know the answer but is there a way to have the healthy oats in a granola or toasted form for a quick yogurt brekkie? Is there a heldthy granola option to buy? 😅🙏

Costco in Canada sells steel cut oats and sprouted large flake oats. Most supermarkets here sell steel cut oats.

QUAKER Quick Cook Steel Cut Oats are more processed. I tried it and it wasn't like proper steel cut oats. I have been buying steel cut oats fro Bulk Barn. Literally cut oats, like broken chunks. I like that they cost the same as regular rolled (processed) oats. Real Canadian Supper Store has a few options but they are significantly more expensive than Bulk Barn.
I add oat bran, ground flax seed, and sunflower seeds to my partially cooked steel cut oats. I then finish cooking the combination.

I assumed organic rolled oats cooked in soya based drink and topped with peanut butter and spouted flax seeds were the perfect breakfast. I'm curious to try pin head oats but the longer cooking time is keeping me from trying. What about prepare them in bulk and reheat in the morning? Do they maintain their good properties this way?

@stephano.. as Carylee above suggest.. soak your oats (especially steel cut oats) overnite with boiling water preferably in a mug, close lid. 1scoop to approx 250ml water (heat up in morning with soy milk to a preferred consistency). No wait time at all n super easy. The oats are fully cooked n still slightly warm. I include bit quinoa n chia seeds to oats before adding boiling water. Morning add whatever seeds, etc etc u like. Hope this helps. Not sure how pin head oats looks like.. I'm assuming cud be like steel cut?

Why are healthy people so worried about blood sugar spikes? It's completely normal and the body can release insulin to control it.. as for healthy people paying to wear a cbgm is ridiculous 😂 eat your oats folks but not those silly instant flavoured oats. Add some chia seeds or flaxseed etc

All oats will spike your blood sugar.
Diabetics on RUclips have tried all the different oats, and they all spike blood sugar more or less the same.
And oats give me stomach cramps,so not good for my stomach.
The health benefits of oats are a myth.
But they need to sell that stuff some how.
