The reason your British Boonie Hat is a different shade is because it is the Jungle DPM variant. The British army issued Jungle gear - Called "Trop" or "Trops" by the troops and is short for "Tropical". The colour is a much lighter and the material is much lighter which is why you would see front line troops and SF wearing Trops in temporary climate. The thinner material tried out quicker. The SAS were true professionals and their training film "I Can't answer That Question" was fantastic in teaching how to resist interrogation techniques.
one thing to remember about British DPM is that there are an awful lot of aftermarket companies still producing uniform parts especially small one like hats webbing etc in DPM not only in a total mixture of period patterns but also widely varying shades
@@stanleygurski7733 There are four basic colorations, the pre-WWII, post-WWII, post-WWII desert and the "San Marco" navy infantry. Internal variations among those four are caused by different batches made by different companies and by the washings.
11:22 Seyntex ? That's a Belgian brand. They do most of the ABL uniforms (with sometimes for desert camo another brand with a flemish name U don't remember the name), and they are pretty popular outside Belgium too (I have a friend in the French military who wear Seyntex along with TOE)
17:17 the brazilian armed forces use the lizard pattern and this is what the navy uses, with a predominance of light brown. the army predominantly uses dark brown, and the air force uses shades of blue.

Nice video. The dpm british jacket is a soldier 95 or cs95 field jacket if it doesn't have a hood. If it has a hood its a smock. The bonnie hat in dpm is tropical dpm. Not alot of that around nowadays.
15:33 its the same as dutch but this is a english jacket!. 16:21 nato issue english helmet.. one would think any surplus store would have these. they do in europe!
I did buy a Czech "lizard" camo uniform. Had the hood with the coat. Pants included. Yes, a lot of yellow in it. But, it was pretty effective on a bright sunny day in summer. And early fall. NY environment. Got it for paint ball games. I was very surprised that the ppl I was playing against. (That time of yr for the climate) was good. Heavy cloth. Draw strings can be used as a tow rope. And the print on the inside was real.
The brown uniform is custom, may be based on the Russian BDU in a small leaf "woodland Patern" called "Flora. The Itaiian uniform is of a pattern called "San Marco". The French "Lizard pattern" uniform is based on the 1964 pattern. which gave way to to large leaf ( CCA?) subdued pattern that ommitted the skirt pockets. In the late 80s, Rhodisian camo became scarce, one outfit, Quartermaster Brigade out of Atlanta sold them, there was a boycott on some most interesting South African camo as well. The Dutch piece is a tanker coverall. The Iraqis, Afgannis, they were provided with U. S. uniforms, but they came up with there own, U.S gave them the fabric . I own Some DPM, last before they changed over (Soldier 95, 2000). I will never wear an M65. Remember dude, when dealing with Dutch, Belgium areas, they retain the British influence. I can give you several examples. Now, the last example...this my be Yugoslavian, at best, a Balkan pattern. Been doing surplus since age 14, pushing 60 now
the British DPM was my cadet uniform it is really nice to have on when you are in the UK because of the weather but now we are issued MTP but DPM is still issue to the air training corps but we prefer MTP
10:50 Sturm is a german factory which produces cheap replicas of any uniform and equipment you can imagine. Sometimes it's not worth the little price you pay, sometimes it's good or even excellent. And yes, it's a replica of the german Splittertarn camouflage, used primarily by the Wehrmacht, not the SS, and it has seen some use in the postwar Bundeswehr.
@@jankaas4504 really? Stopped? I saw them on active personnel as late as 2014. Sorry for the late response, I somehow was notified just now. 🤔 Fijne avond
The DPM boonie looks like a NZ army issue version, during the late eighties/early nineties the NZ army had complete missmatches of DPM colours with pine greens/grass greens and a very dark green version nicknamed "diesels". The diesel was so dark many soldiers soaked it in bleach untill the green became more of a grass green, at the same time the sand colour became a very sexy desert pink. If you look for pictures of NZ soldiers in Bosnia you can likely see the different shades of DPM.
I think the last one is Greek. The baret could be old style Dutch army infantry od green baret. Replaced in the late 00 by a bottle green colored baret, which looks extremely similar to the Dutch army specfor baret. Which of course prompted resentment among the Dutch specfor community. The Dutch coverall is a tanker coverall, only worn by Dutch army tankcrews. No other personnel ever wears those. As to the thickness of the material, that's standard on Dutch combat tenues. The old parka was of a thinner fabric to which a rain, separate winter liner and hood were attached with buttons. There is also a thinner camo fabric dress shirt (in both long and short sleeve) for administrative personnel. In the 90s a desert camo (derived from 3color desert) uniform was introduced on a thinner fabric. There is also a very rare 5 color dutch tropical combat uniform on a bright green base fabric. It is no good though as the fabric is extremely prone to tare. So in all next to standard thickness uniforms the Dutch army uses/has used four different thinner fabrics for uniforms.
Soviet KLMK//Berezka “Silver Leaf” Camouflage was typically used by snipers and special units. I have a pair with a face mask myself. It actually really decent in most wooded areas
The beret is almost certainly Yugoslav. It was originally issued only to recon-sabouter units in late eighties (tough similar was issued to territorial defense since seventies, and I believe this particular copy is actually TD (TO), not regular army one. It's also possible it's a Bosnian Muslim wartime production since it was popular with them and it lacks factory sticker) and after transformation of JNA into JA in 1992. it replaced communist old "Titovka" as a standard service cap. Reserve units of Serbian army still use them today.
Got a chuckle when he talked about the surplus store near Cabela's in Hamburg, PA and pronounced it 'Hahm-borg' like the German city it takes its name from. No one here in PA pronounces it that way, well maybe some old Amish farmer might. Everyone else says 'HAM-berg'... BTW, the surplus store's website: www.priorityonesurplus.com I've had good luck with Coleman's Surplus, got a set of Italian Vegetato camo and a Turkish desert camo shirt. www.colemans.com
As a collector of European camo/bdu's/work uniforms(nothing formal or ceremonial in my wardrobe yet)I recognize almost all of whats on the table. There are several companies I deal with and just about all have british dpm (these come in at least 2 variants in woodland coloring and one in desert).Germany has the flecktarn pattern which is really BADASS!As for the Rhodesian there is a company in Canada offering new repop's ,but they are rather pricey. The raindrop camo from East Germany was copied and expanded upon by the Czechs(they embedded cloudlike shadow patterns into the raindrops)Romanian post communist leaf pattern camo has come on the market recently for cheap,as has Hungarian 48/89 pattern.I could go on and on,but I won't bore you.Several retailers(Sportsmans Guide,Colemans,Epic,Mikes militaria, etc. etc. )they all have a great selection and are very customer oriented.
I wore the clown camouflage uniform Czech army in the late 80s as a opfor in the army we were a special opfor for the army only..but sturm makes Foreign uniforms for different countries and for movies they actually have a wholesale store in Georgia I collect foreign uniforms for the last 25 years Lot of those uniforms come from bill sportsman guide and they get most of on from Sturm they have been making Uniform since World War II . I've actually been to a couple of their factories in Germany I am very familiar with every uniform that you've had in the video I actually have just about every one and accessories for all of the Uniforms. The British floppy hat is a different shade of DPM because it’s the jungle type. Pre soldier 95, when the temperate stuff was issued you had a separate issue for jungle warfare. After Soldier 95 came into issue it was kind of a one issue does all.
i was issued DPM until about two years ago as it wasnt issue the the ATC but now i have MTP but miss the good old DPM but going off track but the should do an MTP style DPM

Hey Christhe Dutch piece of equipment seems to be a vehicle crew jumpsuit. There are 2 variants, the OD one which is usually issued to vehicle crew which don't see the light of day as much like tankers and such. The second variant is in the camouflage pattern which is usually given to vehicle crews of open cars like the MB G280 CDI.
The brown one BDU, near by the start of this video, looks like and made in the U.S. Vietnam era style "Slant pockets", poplin Jungle jacket & trousers.
The DPM temperate Jacket is British Army ( Combat 95 Pattern) , if you like that jacket look for the DPM Arctic ,Windproof/SAS ( both hooded ,awesome bits of kit ) or PARA ,sniper smocks that are a lot better , want something lightweight and quick drying ,brighter colours but same pattern check out the jungle combats ( trousers loved by British squaddies )

some good information, so here is some information in return: if it says ABL its probably Belgian. A = armée (french for army) B = Belge (french for Belgian) or Belgisch (dutch for Belgian) L = leger (dutch for Army)
The Western powers supported Iraq as a bulwark against radical Islamist in Iran (after the fall of the Shah) for many years...Saddam was a tyrant, but he was 'our tyrant' so a lot got overlooked. Same with the Shah, for that matter -- he was a brutal tyrant, but he was our guy, so anything was OK. Yet another total SNAFU of the US in the ME...
Role players/ OPFOR at SERE as well as those who worked with Robin Sage, and other portions of SF training at Ft Bragg were known for wearing black BDU style uniforms in the 90's.
Beret is Serbian that's 100%. Its used by Serbian land forces as regular head wear. Recently is replaced by the patrol cap in new camo, but there is stories about beret comeback...
If somebody went to the TASC(Training Aid Support Center) on a Army base they would offer a variety of beat to hell OPFOR uniforms and fake weapons of the Soviet variety. The one at Joint base McGuire, Dix, Lakehurst. currently has a great selection of middle east clothes for current training requirements. Turning BDUs inside out was a solution when the TASC was out of items or when nobody wanted to get on the signature card for TASC.
I prefer the old Portuguese lizard pattern than the dpm we use now is rubbish And for the jackets try Gortex that's the brand of our cold teampature dpm coats
11:04 As far as I know this is a pattern was used by the west German "Grenzschutz" ( Borderguard ) who controlled the boarder between west and east Germany against smugglers and other criminals. They wore Nazi German equipment in purpose so they would not be confused for American soldiers by the Russians. For comparison, the "Bundeswehr" (Federalamry) used US Uniform and weaponry in the early days of the cold war. Later the pattern was kept but the green was made an occa tone.
I think the RedDawn camo was inspired by the Soviet, but they "jazzed it up" so it would look better on camera. Hollywood is not known for technical accuracy. 😉
Soviet era 1988 tritsvetnaia kamuflirovannaia odezhda (TTsKO) or three-color camouflage uniform was in general service with some units of the Russian Armed Forces (particularly the VDV or Airborne Forces) in the 1980s, followed by the VSR (for Vooruzhennyye sily Rossii or Russian Armed Forces) or dubok (little oak) did not enter service until 1991, and then only initially by specialized units such as the Airborne Forces (VDV). By 1994, the pattern was being distributed universally to most ground units of the Russian Armed Forces, as well as many units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD).The Russians are always a tricky bunch to follow, making attention to detail to those involved , a matter of life and death .
This "french" lizard camouflage uniform has never been used in french army. This is a F1 or F2 uniform, the french army only used them in army green. They are often wore by african armies of former french colonies. In France only hunters use them. The lizzard camo was created in 1947 with the m47 TAP uniform. Lizzard camouflage was mainly abandoned after Algeria war except for some units fighting in Africa which used them until late 70's. Camouflage was back in 1991 with 1st golf war (daguet desert camouflage ) and in 1993 with the CCE (center europe camouflage ) which looks like american woodland with bigger spot.
+BFOP15 , La veste est un mélange destiné au marché civil ou militaires hors France : elle a les pattes d'épaules se fermant par des boutons à pression comme sur les F1 + elle n'a pas de cordon à la taille comme sur les F2.
DPM was supposed to have a seasonal variation with a reissue every six months that never really happened. in the end it was mainly the winter variant unless you got the jungle issue uniform which was more of a tropical BDU and a much brighter lighter colour scheme. there's a blue variant as well used by the jamaican navy if memory serves. DPM was invented by a french abstract artist in ww1. German flecktarn was also issued with a seasonal scheme and then the desert tropentarn
The Polish emblem is fascinating, in so far it reminds me of the first Bulgarian coat of arms, designed back in the end of the 19th century during the last years of the Bulgarian Revolution against Ottoman control. There was a lion on the coat of arms that didn't have a crown. Vassil Levski, a pivotal figure in the fight for freedom, didn't approve of the coat of arms because he wanted the lion to have a crown, as the crown symbolized for him national sovereignity and independance. So the Polish crown in this case might have had the same significance, when we exclude the idea of (Polish) royalty - Poland in these times was a Soviet "vassal", so their independance (from Soviet Russia) was questionable.
Yea Im collector of uniforms but Serbian ones Bosnian Serbs used DPM uniforms in brigade called “Vukovi sa Vučjaka” And also tiger pattern I have some M89 and M93 uniforms in private collection

one thing to remember about British DPM is that there are an awful lot of aftermarket companies still producing uniform parts especially small one like hats webbing etc in DPM not only in a total mixture of period patterns but also widely varying shades
we now use MTP but still have DPM bags and webbing for training
I own so much Italian camo, and I have a different coloration for every season.
I absolutely love the pattern.
We had different shades and assumd it was caused by the number of washings.
@@stanleygurski7733 There are four basic colorations, the pre-WWII, post-WWII, post-WWII desert and the "San Marco" navy infantry. Internal variations among those four are caused by different batches made by different companies and by the washings.
The dutch jumpsuit at 11:15 is a dutch variant of the British DPM pattern. C. 80's probably. See Camopedia for more references.
You need some Australian hearts and bunnies
11:22 Seyntex ? That's a Belgian brand. They do most of the ABL uniforms (with sometimes for desert camo another brand with a flemish name U don't remember the name), and they are pretty popular outside Belgium too (I have a friend in the French military who wear Seyntex along with TOE)
British DPM rocks. I think its the best looking camo out there. I have collected way too many pieces of the british and dutch variants.
17:17 the brazilian armed forces use the lizard pattern and this is what the navy uses, with a predominance of light brown. the army predominantly uses dark brown, and the air force uses shades of blue.
The French Lizard Camo ( predecessor of the Tiger Stripe camo) was also used by the French Foreign Legion in Vietnam and during the >Battle of Dien Bien Phu < against the Viet Minh ( later Vietcong ) in the 50s .

I definetly cannot choose which camouflage is my most favourite one. I say British DPM, German Flecktarn and US ERDL
Nice video. The dpm british jacket is a soldier 95 or cs95 field jacket if it doesn't have a hood. If it has a hood its a smock. The bonnie hat in dpm is tropical dpm. Not alot of that around nowadays.
I was in Germany in 78 through 82 we had cards that had all Soviet Union uniforms We were up force in refoger
Color can be a camouflage. My grandpa 82 ABN, D-Day to Berlin said the German gray uniform blended in with shadows
15:33 its the same as dutch but this is a english jacket!.
16:21 nato issue english helmet..
one would think any surplus store would have these. they do in europe!
13:48 Seems like garment produced in Romania for Iraqis in the 80's. Those were exact copies of British DPM but printed and sewn in Romania.
Love that Red Dawn KLMK camo
10:50 Sturm is a german factory which produces cheap replicas of any uniform and equipment you can imagine. Sometimes it's not worth the little price you pay, sometimes it's good or even excellent. And yes, it's a replica of the german Splittertarn camouflage, used primarily by the Wehrmacht, not the SS, and it has seen some use in the postwar Bundeswehr.
That Brown one @5.00 looks like a 3rd pattern Vietnam Tropical shirt....with British Buttons. Buttons normally give away a Uniforms identity.
The Dutch jumpsuit was and is issued to armoured personal. It was worn over the regular uniform, but under the jacket.
Woah, shout out to Priority One Surplus in Hamburg, I only live 20 minutes away and have been there a few times, they have a whole wall of uniforms.
The "dutch" camo is actually a 90's British DPM uniform we shared with most of Europe
Dutch version of dpm, same splotches but slightly different colors.
@@jankaas4504 not quite, Dutch woodland pattern is also lacking the spotty fringes on the splodges of dpm.
Superdoei
@@psychoaiko666 you mean the ones the limeys stopped printing in the later variations?
Dpm was uesd by a lot of countries
@@jankaas4504 really? Stopped?
I saw them on active personnel as late as 2014.
Sorry for the late response, I somehow was notified just now. 🤔
Fijne avond
The DPM boonie looks like a NZ army issue version, during the late eighties/early nineties the NZ army had complete missmatches of DPM colours with pine greens/grass greens and a very dark green version nicknamed "diesels". The diesel was so dark many soldiers soaked it in bleach untill the green became more of a grass green, at the same time the sand colour became a very sexy desert pink. If you look for pictures of NZ soldiers in Bosnia you can likely see the different shades of DPM.
In 12:30 that camo was the greek army camo
Another excellent video Chris. Stan is very entertaining and knowledgable. Do you know how old he is?
Born Dec 1947. retired but still serving
Stanley Gurski Thank you for your service
The last jacket is Cuban -worn by Advisors in Angola.
Funnily enough I have the DPM temperate camo jacket you admire!, its pretty good quality, and my only retro DPM.
Very informative and nice collection
BTW, the surplus store's website: www.priorityonesurplus.com
I've had good luck with Coleman's Surplus, got a set of Italian Vegetato camo and a Turkish desert camo shirt. www.colemans.com
Outstanding
The unidentified disruptive pattern jacket he was talking about is a Canadian Airborne Regiment DPM smock! I know that tag anywhere!
it is not it was the same as my issue smock i still have it
I wore the clown camouflage uniform Czech army in the late 80s as a opfor in the army we were a special opfor for the army only..but sturm makes Foreign uniforms for different countries and for movies they actually have a wholesale store in Georgia I collect foreign uniforms for the last 25 years Lot of those uniforms come from bill sportsman guide and they get most of on from Sturm they have been making Uniform since World War II . I've actually been to a couple of their factories in Germany I am very familiar with every uniform that you've had in the video I actually have just about every one and accessories for all of the Uniforms. I can probably tell you anything you wanna know about any of the military uniforms you have on your collection.
17:20 is the official greek camo lizard
"If you wanna have somebody persecute Christ he's gonna have to be in an East German uniform, I gave 'em East German uniforms..."
One of the best stories ever. xD
Definitely making a note of that...
The British floppy hat is a different shade of DPM because it’s the jungle type. Pre soldier 95, when the temperate stuff was issued you had a separate issue for jungle warfare. After Soldier 95 came into issue it was kind of a one issue does all.
That last pattern was made for the military of Transkei.
From UK and our army surplus shops are full of DPM, it got fazed out about 10 years ago for MTP! It won’t be around forever soooo.....
i was issued DPM until about two years ago as it wasnt issue the the ATC but now i have MTP but miss the good old DPM but going off track but the should do an MTP style DPM
Cool. I have a German winter poncho & NATO Polish nbc bdu. I have the nbc mask but the canisters are used. Your friend is very smart guy. I thought he was from Poughkeepsie area, not down in Pennsylvania.
The last uniform is Transkei camo,
South Africa, then?
Hey Christhe Dutch piece of equipment seems to be a vehicle crew jumpsuit.
There are 2 variants, the OD one which is usually issued to vehicle crew which don't see the light of day as much like tankers and such.
The second variant is in the camouflage pattern which is usually given to vehicle crews of open cars like the MB G280 CDI.
17:20 It's looks like brazilian army uniform and the brazil's green barret.
The brown one BDU, near by the start of this video, looks like and made in the U.S. Vietnam era style "Slant pockets", poplin Jungle jacket & trousers.
yes.But it is so well done i wondered if it was manufactured rather than the "war story" I got from the previous owner.
The DPM temperate Jacket is British Army ( Combat 95 Pattern) , if you like that jacket look for the DPM Arctic ,Windproof/SAS ( both hooded ,awesome bits of kit ) or PARA ,sniper smocks that are a lot better , want something lightweight and quick drying ,brighter colours but same pattern check out the jungle combats ( trousers loved by British squaddies )
funkyfenman THANKS for that point!! The Brighter coloured Tropical DPM had Better "PRICKLY HEAT " protection than later DPM tropical iss# LOT of UK LADS prefer it !! ALSO Tropical DPM trsrs DRYED QUICKER on OPS !! UK PARAs and R.MNES CDO on OUT of AREA OPS (SAIF SAAREA EX :OMAN ) 5 ABN BDE /3CDO BD3 wore tropical DPM as NOTHING else available !!!
In Italy the di let you keep your uniform and part of your kit after the compulsory military training, and so you could see many parked cars around covered by the that camo tent sheet!
alright mate, at the sixteen minute mark thats the british soldier/combat ninety five DPM gear
Justin Roberts they took inspiration off the British uniform just as the Russians did
some good information, so here is some information in return: if it says ABL its probably Belgian.
A = armée (french for army)
B = Belge (french for Belgian) or Belgisch (dutch for Belgian)
L = leger (dutch for Army)
Using NATO uniforms for the enemy doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
how to fight your allies🤣
The Western powers supported Iraq as a bulwark against radical Islamist in Iran (after the fall of the Shah) for many years...Saddam was a tyrant, but he was 'our tyrant' so a lot got overlooked. Same with the Shah, for that matter -- he was a brutal tyrant, but he was our guy, so anything was OK. Yet another total SNAFU of the US in the ME...
11:37 that Dutch uniform is a British uniform. The British lended out to multiple countries, their own brushstroke pattern.
It's Dutch DPM, very similar to British but slightly different. The cut is also different to any British kit of that time.
Role players/ OPFOR at SERE as well as those who worked with Robin Sage, and other portions of SF training at Ft Bragg were known for wearing black BDU style uniforms in the 90's.
i last left Bragg in 1992. SERE group also had local tailor made Soviet dress uniforms with hammer and sickle wood buttons.
I think the British DPM jacket might be an aircrew jacket for loadmasters etc
On the 2nd camo,'the red dawn' also appear in rambo 3.
Army and Outdoors sells a heap of surplus DPM patterns. Really cheap too
Beret is Serbian that's 100%. Its used by Serbian land forces as regular head wear. Recently is replaced by the patrol cap in new camo, but there is stories about beret comeback...
The units I was in never had any high speed OPFOR uniforms. We just turned our BDU tops inside out.
I prefer the old Portuguese lizard pattern than the dpm we use now is rubbish
And for the jackets try Gortex that's the brand of our cold teampature dpm coats
4:38 is some kinda copy of us jungle fatigues used during the Vietnam War
That dutch uniform seems to be in a pattern similar to that of British woodland DPM.
Priority one surplus in Hamburg Pa. is the name of that place for camo
The berate looks like its from serbia and montenegro / FR yugoslavia / just serbia... (its fun here in the balkans)
cool video btw
A better version of the DPM jacket is the WINDPROOF SMOCK.
it was the windproof smock
I think the RedDawn camo was inspired by the Soviet, but they "jazzed it up" so it would look better on camera. Hollywood is not known for technical accuracy. 😉
What camoflauge pattern did Soviet Paratroopers use in 1988? Anyone know?
This video isn't specific, but shows examples of USSR and Russian Federation paratrooper uniforms: ruclips.net/video/470tcpvPTaE/видео.html
German flecktarn was also issued with a seasonal scheme and then the desert tropentarn
blue dpm and now blue mtp is used by British troops when they're playing as the enemy

If I’m not mistaken is the Dutch uniform you got there an early version (begin 90s) dpm tanker uniform
The dutch camo uniform is for tank and armoured vehicle personel.
The beret is most likely a serbian/yugoslavian beret. Green is worn by the infantry and armored forces.
19.16 nzdpm mate looks like the de version stacks of it here
I have been to that army surplus store in Hamburg, PA, good shit there
Is it in the Cabelas store, or like right next to it
The Dutch one looks so similar to the British Woodland DPM 11:14
Yea Im collector of uniforms but Serbian ones
Bosnian Serbs used DPM uniforms in brigade called “Vukovi sa Vučjaka”
And also tiger pattern
I have some M89 and M93 uniforms in private collection
I have one of those W German overwhite tops in my sniper kit from when I was in the army. Fortunately I never needed it. That pak jacket- I have one just like it. I found it in afg during search.
