The original was much more focused around gang warfare, with only one martial arts themed enemy (jeff). This version feels a lot more like a martial arts themed game where you travel around, beating all the different martial arts masters to become the best with the gang warfare being more of a subplot. They even added nunchucks and escrima sticks which are the most powerful weapons in the game.
There are normal Abobos, original arcade Abobos, afro Abobos, Mibobos, blue Abobos and even golden Abobos. You also fight a pretty princess pink Burnov near the end which I thought was pretty hilarious.

They have really done Abobo dirty in this game.
His mooks are usually a bigger threat than he himself.
