This game was so fun in coop in the police chase missions. I remember we would alternate between one player actually trying to win the race and the other losing early on on purpose to become a police car and help the other player bash cars away.

I absolutely LOVE the style of this game and it makes the decision to not fully commit to the cartoon artstyle in Unbound all the more baffling. Also the soundtrack is such a phenomenal gateway to hearing the type of music that was popular around the late 2000s. The game's charm is just so infectious! ❤

Track list is my only issue, at 2 per city with drag strips its just too repetetive too quickly. The events aren't overly long as HP2 but even just slightly longer track lenght would have been fine.
But i like the odd pick car list, i mean you got Reventon over the Murcielago, Cube, Cayenne and a Tesla roadster, its a weird car list but honestly much more interesting than whatever basic cars youd get on something like TD Brotherhood of Steel or any of those street racing games we had.

I’m shocked EA hasn’t ported this to the switch or remastered the title it’s the only NFS title exclusively for a Nintendo console maybe twitch some of the issues add more custom features and have players download custom cars by online to see creative designs and keep the arcade style racing and change the cars for some cooler ones and done

For how little talked about this game is, there's a lot nice going for it, such as the visual style, the proportions of the cars, and the territory being covered in your car's art when you're in the lead. I had Nitro X on the DSi which was also a fun time.

I grew up playing Nitro on the Wii my family members and I shared at my grandmother’s house. It was (for the most part) a blast.
Like with most of the others in this comments section, the thing that makes Nitro stick in my mind is its art style and graphical presentation. It’s so unapologetically cartoony that it ends up giving off big Hot Wheels vibes. It was a huge breath of fresh air for me back in the day, and it still is today, for better or for worse (more on that a little later).
I also really appreciate the oddball car roster showcased in Nitro. It’s already kinda rare to see the classic VW Beetle show up in any racing game that *isn’t* a Forza or Gran Turismo game, and that rarity is exponentially more pronounced with the Nissan Cube, the Renault 4L, and the VW Type 2 Microbus. And that’s a genuine shame; I guarantee you there’s an untapped market for racing games where you drive these kinds of $#!£box vehicles. (The more standard cars, including the Shelby Super Snake and the Zonda F, are a welcome inclusion too.)
In terms of the controls…I personally had no problem getting the hang of them. Drifting became second nature for me within the first hour of play, so much so that at one point I tried to see if I could complete all the Gold Cup Drift events without snaking back and forth. (It uhh…didn’t go very well. XD)
I do agree with the complaints about the lack of content and the camera though. More unique powerups, more tracks per city (or at least more cities to race in) would’ve gone a long way to helping Nitro stand out even more. And yeah…the whole lane-changing gimmick for Drag Race events - while something I didn’t have much issue getting used to - is still problematic.
All that said, when looking at it from a modern perspective, Nitro is a very flawed game that still manages to hold its own and stand out in spite of its flaws. Especially in the art style department, which…
    …*sigh*…
…if I may be blunt for a moment, a part of the reason Nitro was (and still is) such a breath of fresh air for me stylistically is because at the time, I had grown thoroughly tired of the art style most NFS games sported up to that point.
Like…I get why everyone likes that particular art style. I really do.
But when that art style gets reused for three games in a row - potentially four, if we include The Run - and it’s combined with gameplay that had long since gone stale, you end up with both individual games and a franchise that I felt had lost its ability to excite me; It felt like every future NFS game was just going to be a carbon copy of Underground 2 or Most Wanted, except worse.
(And boy howdy, did that ever turn out to be f%€¥ing prophetic.)
So to say it was both a surprise and a genuine delight to see EA try something so radically different from those previous games, and to do it with an art style we hadn’t seen in an NFS game up to that point (except maybe the first four games in the whole series)…well, as I said, it was exciting. And it still excites me to this day.
…And in a lot of ways, that makes me genuinely upset. Not just because most NFS fans (specifically those who grew up playing the Black Box games) tend to trash this game’s art style simply for not being super gritty or realistic, but because EA may likely never give this art style an honest second chance ever again.
And to those who say Unbound is carrying the artistic legacy Nitro pioneered…no. It isn’t. Stop lying. Unbound’s art style is literally just an unfocused mish-mash of cel-shaded characters, cartoony visual effects, and photorealistic car models that at best comes off as messy, and at worst feels so noncommittal, that they could remove the cel-shading and visual effects, replace them with more realistic looking models and effects, and no one would do much as bat an eye.

I really liks both versions of this game but unfortunately, Nitro is regarded as a pretty bad NFS game from a lot of fans because of how kiddie it looks as well as being overly arcade. It's an underrated game woth a campaign that can be played with 4 Players, which is something no other NFS game have ever done and it os a great way to have some friends over and go through each races bumping and yelling at each other! Great times!

    • @suntannedduck2388
      @suntannedduck2388 Год назад

Mashed up no. If assets and more cartoony then the other entries on Wii have maybe but content no completely different it's more Dodge Racer comparable then other NFS games. Think 4 regions, 2 tracks per region so super light on content then but then again some are that way with Auto Modellista, R Racing or GT Port Series even do not uncommon.
Motion, Classic controller or GameCube are nice I played GameCube controller as I don't like motion in it or most racing games compared to other motion games.
About I think 8-10 events each region with 2 locked each time needing stars and of course stars of a certain cap for each region.
A few game modes that aren't as fun as the DS version (has these and more included and I think 5 regions then 4 so more tracks too) but do a fair job of elimination, race and time trial besides drag and speed limit reaching. Besides I think a drift points one. I forgot haven't played in a while due to it being hard and awkward sometimes.
Arcade is there but not worth experiencing and multiplayer never tried but I assume is pretty simple of modes, a few people at least 4 and play split screen.
DS has a police chase with 3 cars, a cone mode, and a few others not in the Wii version. They are more fun.
Plays very arcade like a Ridge Racer game for drifting needs then an NFS game ever would at least those I've played of the circuit only ones or footage I've seen of other entries (Nitro Wii/Nitro DSi, Underground Rivals, Pro street, Shift 2).
Characters are in cutscenes once and don't mean much but appear whenever starting a region so you see them again per difficulty.
Stars to unlock events. Ok customisation. Prices for cars versus unlocks I don't find worth it just get whatever possible and use it.
3 difficulties. Play once and you have seen the whole game it just repeats. By difficulty I don't mean oh pick one I mean unlock them format and repeat events over again but also new cars at that tier to unlock. I think it's cheap and lazy but GTI Club on PSP does the same so eh (but also has other more dumb and fun modes).
Either way NFS Nitro gets real hard on medium somewhat but way too hard on hard difficulty so tight of turns later on to get events done of speed limits, drift points and time trials and this is with a GameCube controller (classic controller also supported). Never an issue with the DS version it's way easier to beat even besides skipping achievements. But gold on all events.
Online I don't remember I think so. Checked my physical copy and it says no so split screen offline only.
DS version is better with multiplayer I doubt online but with DSI version it's only DSi version players not DS version players so that's dumb, I think besides multi DS. I only own it on DSIware aka 3DS so can't test but as far as I remember from the menu it's probably the expected multi DS then single cart but I don't see any likely Nintendo Wifi or EA mentioning it.
Better modes. Achievements. More interesting tracks. I think the police chase mode is more fun I don't remember it in Wii or wasn't as fun. (Own on 3DS digitally so no box). Beat this version and had more fun then the Hard difficulty on Nitro Wii which is really hard.
The DS version is just better.
So while it's a different game it feels cheap in areas to make a game quickly for the Wii and DS while DS is superior in content, playability and more fun.

I consider the EA published games on the Wii to be a mixed bag. I have a soft spot for some of the MySims games, EA Playground is alright if you don't mind having to unlock the handful of minigames, the Boom Blox games are underrated gems and Monopoly Party is one of the more enjoyable video game adaptations of the board game.
I also didn't realize that the EA games on Gamecube were inferior to the other versions in terms of gameplay, though I guess that makes sense given the system's mini discs. Not that it mattered to me since I was a PC gamer, whom at the time would start console gaming with the PS2.
As for this game and the use of controllers, I believe the Wii remote on its own was done for accessibility reasons, which would be fine if it actually worked. Though I remember that you're suppost to twist the remote to steer, which is what you clearly weren't doing when showing off footage of using the thing. Just saying...

I have a soft spot for nitro. We got it for Christmas, and I was a huge need for speed fanboy back then. I loved the cartoon proportions of the cars, the different environments, and the little details like how the city gets tagged with the scheme and icons of the leader car. Hell, I even liked the cheesy boss intros. It wasn't a perfect game, but I spent a ton of time on it, as all we really had was a Wii back then.
Now, after all the fun I had with Nitro, when we got the rebooted hot pursuit for Wii, that was another experience entirely. Weirdly awful graphics and settings, but something about the car handling made me stick with it to the end. That's an interesting one to check out for sure. I bet it's aged pretty poorly.

I remember being excited when my brother called me over my aunts phone to tell me they’re bringing back a NFS game and when he came back with this I was really disappointed. It did grow on me fast and now I have a weird nostalgia for it and remember it not being that bad. I still blast Code of the Road by Danko Jones when I’m racing to pick up my gf

it can be fun but I hated the controls. Parallel Lines already had an awful control scheme and they carried over to San Francisco as well. I dont hate motion controls, I think the pointer is great for the shooting sections, but Driver games used some bizarre schemes like using the C button and the analog stick on the nunchuk at the same time. Using A or B to accelerate instead would be way more comfortable to play but these games dont have remappable button schemes.

      @thawkade Год назад

@@thedugal1373 Yeah, OTC was strictly a handheld game, both GC and Wii had the original version. It wasn't until Undercover that the Wii started getting separate games from the other consoles.
That being said Carbon on Wii still had forced pointer/motion controls so your complaint is probably still valid with that.
