To make planting in the sides of baskets easier just toll your plants in a wide strip of paper or newspaper then push through the sides, remove paper and this helps prevent damage to plants and roots!
I love your baskets Katherine. I just wish you had a pic of the basket after they have been growing a bit, to see the final effect. Thanks for the info and the tips. Never knew I could do this with the lobelias!
Mine look good when I buy them, nice and full. Then they get stragley and thin and look terrible,. Should the flower heads be picked off as they die? Thanks
Excellent, thank you, I was struggling with a window box after a disappointment last year and not really knowing anything about gardening. Most of the videos I found were USA based.
If I were a little plant, I'd want you to handle me! I actually cheated today. I went to Walmart to get some plants to make a 'thriller/filler/spiller, but they honestly had some of the most beautiful potted plants that I've seen in a long time, so went ahead and bought several. Home Depot usually has the 'thrillers' already made up too that are gorgeous. I don't have really good ground, (without a LOT of work amending it), and this arthritis doesn't like me digging, so my yard and around the house still looks really pretty. I love the idea of how you cut the holes in the coconut husk! Do you make the 'spherical hanging baskets' too?
Jolly nice presentation Katherine! I've found that calibrachoa are splendid long-lived performers in hanging baskets - and they come in a good range of colours too. I usually have about 35 baskets and they never disappoint.
Thanks for the great tutorial. i want to build a frame over my bathtub and have plants hanging down. do you think if i line the base of the hanging frame with coir and cut holes in the coir for my succulents, air plants and bromeliads, that will work?? or will the compost fall out too much?
After you’ve watered the lobelia, the root ball is easily squished flatter that then can be pushed through. Then I fluff the roots out and put compost all around to give them a head start with branching out. Better root development.
This was fabulous! I have a question: Can I use old horse manure mixed into the soil when I'm planting? I sometimes worry about adding too much nitrogen to the soil when planting flowers as I understand I may end up with all greenery and no flowers. But I have lots and lots of horse manure available -- and if you can use the pelleted chicken manure, seems like it would be okay, Thanks in advance for your reply!
For hanging baskets the general rule is to use one plant per inch of basket diameter - so 12 plants per 12 inch basket. You'll only need 5 plants per 12 inch hanging basket for bigger plants like Geraniums (Pelargoniums), Surfinia Petunias, culinary herbs and Fuchsias
Last year I bought a planter of Paper White flowers, after blooming, I let the greenery die down. Then cut it off. This spring it resprouted, and is growing nicely. Tall stalks, no flower stems, just green leaves, why? What can I do? Thanks 😊
What size basket is this? Could I put 10 trailing pansies in a 12in basket on the sides, then do 4 or 5 on top? Or would that be too much for a 12 in basket?
its so hard to find these flowers here in california. imagine 1plug is like $4-5. theyre not really selling 1.5 inch plugs in homedepot or lowes. sometimes they have 6 plugs for $7 but only limited. the trailing pansies, cascading petunia, trailing vinca anything trailing, they dont sell it cheap and not even available. so it's like when u make your own it will cost you over $30bucks. So im stuck with allysum, lobella, regular petunia, regular geraniums, regular impatiens. If you buy it online on ebay, they're not selling to california buyings bcoz of excess shipping cost. it's like wth??? :-/

What is it that you recommend to do? I tried what she did. I Pulled the plants and destroyed the roots.
@Noel Emery.. What specifically did you recommend to do in order to keep the root. I did what she did and failed.

Hi Brad,
Happy to help! Let us know how your window box's go this year with the hashtag #silverlinetools 🌻
Knackered a trailing lobelia doing this way today, so rammed them through from the outside. Job done.
Can't wait to try this! I just wish she would either move the pot closer to the bag of soil...or the bag of soil on the table.
Susie Fairchild Lott she could just tip the bag in much easier
Wish people would make this first part then finish making the video when the plants have grown so people could see how it turns out
That turned out absolutely Beautiful 🥰
Thanks Katherine I think ur just fantastic and I could listen to u all day, great stuff can’t wait to do great tips .
Love your accent!!! Move your basket close to the potting soil and you will eliminate a lot of your work and mess. 💙
Awesome idea to insert small lobelias through the small around the basket👌

Please show a picture after the season is near. Not just on this video, but all the ones you do.
Fantastic. Please come to my house!!
👍
Never mind. I got it.
Almost all your plants seems to be root-bound. Should one not thin out that mess of roots before planting?

Hi
Trying to concentrate on what's she is saying while the orchestral music is playing is not easy 🥴
I normally wear hand glove to protect my hands
Why does'nt she move the pot near to the bag of soil
My plants kept falling out the hole!
“...of the decade,” reeeeeally? 🤔
I feel that she was most likely told by the director to mention it. Notice that she's not comfortable when doing so.
I bet she grows dank ganja
Wish you could write all those
FLowers down.
Informative video, but her pronunciation of compost was like nails on a chalkboard.......compust ....compust.....compust.....compust.....PUUUUST.
I wanna tell you that the channel 'easy crafts' has stolen your content!! :(
Very nice!
