Cheers for this video. I just watched out of curiosity as I do want to retrofit front and rear fog lights to my daily, an 02 Opel Astra. My first German car, same generation year as your E53, but a far less complex car. Kudos for doing it the right way too, using correct connector sizes and reusing OEM connectors. I would love to fit LED bumper mounted, as halogen is such old technology and isn’t as bright. I subscribed; I enjoy your work on complex vehicles!
Thanks mate! really appreciate you! back in school there was an Astra bertone coupe in town with an utterly nice bodykit. loved that car! can't find any pics tho. I'd say you can do it! have LEDs in other cars and love it. looks very clean. but for this X5 I had a different plan. check out the bumper I build for this thing and you know why. also dropped some 100W bulbs in there but would say still not as effective as LEDs.
no. either those cables are in already or it's utilizing a canbus, but you "only" need to wire from the light switch to the LCM in the passenger right footwell, and in the trunk from the TCM to the lights. I wonder if the European or Canadian models have a TCM even when the car doesn't have towing capabilities (just for the rear fog lights) or if they're wired straight from the LCM..
theoretically you could pinch into the wire for the front fogs and lead it back to the rear so that all (front and rear) come on with one button. but that might cause some trouble since the load is changed. if you already go through that trouble it's just 30 min away from doing it OEM. the newer platforms like F10 have all the wiring done in a more modern way so that you can only add the bulbs and change the switch and it's done.

No way as I’m looking to see how to make my rear fogs work on my e53 I find this video posted 1 day ago! Thankyou my friend !!!
let's call it fate 😂
I've only had a blog post to go off so I hope this will help you through the process
Me also 7 months later 🤣
Don’t you have to run wires from lcm module to the rear light?

Hello, it seems to be a lot of work... Is there a way to make them work by making a connection from the other headlights? Thank you in advance
It needs a switch in the cabin to function as true fog lights. If you wired DRL you could but it’s still similar amount of work.
