She said if I played it she would buy the guitar for me. Long story short I've been practicing it for 20 minutes and I've memorized it and can play it at half speed and she's worried. update: riff learned, bet won, guitar ordered
I remember seeing a Strat on display some decades ago. I picked it up and started playing it. It didn't feel amazing in my hands, and I could see it was pretty beaten up. I started playing it and after about 10 minutes or so I felt this connection and went into almost a dreamlike state. I know it sounds corny but there was something about it, some ethereal connection I had. I convinced myself it was just my mind trippin but I couldn't shake it. I put it back down and stared at it for a while, then made my decision. That day I walked out to my car empty handed. It still rings in my mind all these years later about the loss. Sometimes you just gotta grab the ring and live life.

Same over here. When you advertised "searching musicians to form a band" you got calls from 990 solo guitarists, (917 could not even tune their instruments), 4 drummers (6 of them couldn't count to 3), 3 piano players, 2 bass players (who were really 1 guitarist and 1 organist) and 1 rhythm guitar player... a few years later you'd get 35 guitarists less and instead 35 keyboarders who'd never get the same sound twice...

Congratulations mate, I can see why this guitar spoke to you. I have often thought that the 1970s Strats were totally underrated. You're on a winner there.
72 was a good year. I was 16 years old. While I had seen a few up and coming bands like ZZ Top and Nugent, I made my first major concert to see Wishbone Ash and Captain Beyond. I was hooked! From there, I saw every major bad of the 70s. If I had only known more about guitars back then.

Haven't focused on guitar for almost 10 years. I finally decided to buy a good little practice amp. A PRS SE and signed up to Guitar Super System. Ready to refresh the brain and get back into it.
I've been playing guitar for 50 years and I've played many of Strats from every decade and what I'm about to say is only my experience with early 70's Strats. I never once found a early 70's Strat that I like. This includes my other guitar playing friends. In fact we avoided them like the plague especially the one's with maple neck because Fender put so much lacquer on the neck they may as well been dipped in rhino liner.
This is such a cool watch mate. What a find as well, there's just something about a 70's Strat where you just know that it's got some seriously great stories to tell, some of which can't be fully disclosed, and this has whatever that is I've just described in abundance. Congrats 👏🏻👏🏻
A "68" Strat is my holy grail. I played one when I was 28. I have NEVER had a guitar speak to me like that one did. One of these days. Just found your channel. Frickin' love it.
I'm curious to ask, since you said this is the first time you felt this way since your green PRS, have you struggled making that same connection with the purple PRS?
I felt like he didn't like it as much as he hoped... Sure, it looks awesome but I feel like he isn't talking about the purple private stock in the way of it being something that is so incredibly special. Maybe he is really just talking about the "it has mojo and stories" aspect tho. The green PRS has been his baby for years and he has experienced things with it. And the 72 is just as mojo as it gets. The purple one probably needs to be worn in to have the same appeal as the other two. Like, I'm pretty sure he LOVES it but it's not that somewhat mysterious, old companion it is yet to become over the years.
@@JimmyFeelsIt That makes sense, yeah, maybe he meant it more in the way of a guitar that has the battle scars and history like his green PRS does ALso, now that you mention it, I have also noticed that, he doesn't use the purple PRS that much and I don't hear him mentioning it much, so maybe something about it isn't quite as he'd hoped? Happens to the best of us
It makes sense to me I love Guitars but can't play , I'm in to bikes I bought a near new Harley with a 103 Engine after I got it off the trailer and put it in the shed I walked over to my 1985 Evo and patted the Dash and said I'm Sorry , we have been though 280,000 Kl 3 rebuilds I did lots of Custom work on her , I did try to love the new one but Evan throwing money at it didn't help , so I have sold it to a friend of mine , ( and the Evo Her name is Wanna Boogie , stopped leaking oil )
Hey, beautiful guitar... congrats! I just wanted to say I've been watching your vids over the years, and while I still think "Music is Win" is a dorky name for a YT channel, your playing has gotten better and better, and you are now playing stellar stuff! Keep up the good work!
@@MainPrism Lmao 🤣. I originally meant for it to be "cant hold" instead (as a self deprecating joke) but i guess you still managed to understand it correcly. Source: An idiot.
Reminds me of the 1973 Tele Custom I bought new in 1974 and sold thirty years later. The construction was just like that vintage, maple neck and all. Mint condition. As an investment, that one would be worth 6-8 grand, today.
That “feel” you talk about. My old buddy who passed away not long ago, he got me into lead and slide when I was 14.. He believed in the feel / mojo on a guitar. When I found my esp at 37 years old it was the first guitar that I felt out of my guitars
I love how every few months you have a new video essentially about finding your ultimate guitar. I get it, but it seems a little funny from afar. That RUclips lyfe be crazy tho
The problem with the 70's Strats and the 3 bolt necks, wasn't the number of bolts, but the fact that they didn't make the neck-pockets tight/precise enough. So by a little shimming/modifying, you can make them play really really good again!
70s guitars are extremely underrated. I feel like a lot of the opinions in the 90s and 2000s were from the fact that 70s guitars weren’t really considered valuable enough to have major work refrets/setups/neck resets done. 99 % of the 70s guitars that people showed me that “sucked” that just needed a neck adjustment and refret. I worked in a vintage guitar shop and played tons of really bad 60s fenders and Gibsons. Some of the best guitars I have ever played are 70s Fenders, Gibsons and Martins.
Congratulations on the beautiful vintage Strat!! My goal is to buy one some day. I just signed up for your Guitar Super System. Totally floored by the amount of content based on the fee!!
Sick Strat bro. I've always had a soft spot for 70's Stratocaster's because of the playable neck. Not real big on single coils, but, you get such a classic guitar sound from them I won't lie. I started at 7 years old on a red/white EVH Strat clone that my dad got me, with single coils and a similar neck to the 70's strat, I think that will always be my go to is the strat body style. To this day I still have that first one (it has single EMG 85 and a Floyd Rose now though 😈🤘)
I absolutely love the maple fretboard on Fenders with any sort of a blue color body, one of the prettiest looking guitars across all makes and models - picked up one myself 8 months in electric blue with maple fret… but it was brand new lol
This hits home. As far as dream guitars go. You actually own my dream guitar. The Green PRS SC245 that Phil (Sharpen My Axe) absolutely went beast mode on. Dude.. Tyler.. I feel this my guy
I have never cared for strats because of the contours... tele's speak more to me. But the combo of the pickups, the neck, the age, your excited hands... It's making me kinda want to get or build a strat now. And of course, congrats on the super system update dude. ❤ I'm going to check it out on the app store shortly.
Love it. I had a ‘73 hardtail that I should never have gotten rid of. Seriously, mojo like no other. Everyone rags on ‘70s Strats but… nah. They’re missing out.
Bloody good on you! I find that RUclips guitarists, compared to rock guitarists, are far and away better guitarists. They don’t have hit singles or great albums to fall back on. They only have their skill and personality. The solo at the end of this video is some of the most jaw dropping tasty phrasing I have heard, and a great example. It’s beautiful! Thanks for the content I will definitely keep watching.
You're a stud man, love this video. I also am very aware of the negative connotation with the 3 bolt 70's strats. good to see them getting some love. And my goodness does it sound incredible.
Now Fender needs to release 100 reproductions of this :) So glad you found this brother ! Finding a guitar that voices your inner soul is almost priceless ........almost HAHA .
Congrats Tyler!, You finally got the guitar that you "waited" and wanted your whole life. I have the same feeling sometimes. I bought all the top most playable "Superstrats" i can find. I have a Suhr Modern Pro, a PRS 24 custom, an EBMM Petrucci Majesty, a very rare Ibanez 30th anniversary JEM, Jackson Soloist, ESP Kirk Hammett, etc. 🤟 But I still "WANT" and "NEED" a vintage Strat like that haha. Maybe someday I can find that elusive unreachable "Strat" or maybe I'll just buy the "Yngwie scalloped signature Strat" hahaha.😁
I have a few vintage strats and quite frankly I choose them 99% of the time even over my Custom Shops which were built to my specifications. There's just something magical about playing a 50y+ old strat. Even if it's just mental trickery.
My brother in Christ, the amount of times you’ve gotten your “dream guitar” is off the charts, it’s also a strat, a guitar that has been produced since the 50’s, what the fuck are you on about?
I was never a strat guy when I started playing. But over the years I’ve learned to love them, especially ones with a maple neck. You just get the perfect tone 👍 you done well
I was never a strat guy either, but recently got a MIM SSH and am just blown away by the feel of the maple neck. It just feels SO good. Probably just because of the 9” radius but man its so comfy.
Dude that's awesome. As a guitarist/musician, I can't wait for my moment either. Also, I may envy you a little bit lol. Side note, I noticed you've lost a lot of weight compared to your older videos. I see it in your face mainly. So, keep up the good work both musically and focusing on your health.

If by advanced, you mean weirder and faster, check out Rick Beato's videos. He loves playing in funky modes. That said, Tyler's lessons are very informative, delivered eloquently and have an accessibility that many other tutorial video lessons do not.
Love that they put the basses on the floor because they know that bass players can't hold a guitar.
Source: a bassist.
Or is it because noone cares if you drop a bass? 🤣🤣🤣
Source: A guitarist.
Sorry I had too lol. Keep rockin man!!! 🤘
@@MainPrism Lmao 🤣. I originally meant for it to be "cant hold" instead (as a self deprecating joke) but i guess you still managed to understand it correcly.
Source: An idiot.
I feel like its more so because the bass' best place to be is on the floor
Very nice to see you excited about your new guitar. I’m getting into Super System. Thx for your hard work.
Who was expecting a signature PRS?
Great video anyway. happy for your achievements, Tyler!
Reminds me of the 1973 Tele Custom I bought new in 1974 and sold thirty years later. The construction was just like that vintage, maple neck and all. Mint condition. As an investment, that one would be worth 6-8 grand, today.

Awesome vid!! I watch Trogly's vids regularly (vicariously collecting through him, lol). Seeing vintage guitars just gives a good feeling.
Sweet sounding guitar Tyler, congrats man, you earned it! 👍❤️
That ‘68 melted everything else
Absolutely...
Yeah, refin or not, that thing was 🔥
The problem with the 70's Strats and the 3 bolt necks, wasn't the number of bolts, but the fact that they didn't make the neck-pockets tight/precise enough. So by a little shimming/modifying, you can make them play really really good again!
Great video. Felt like a mini documentary. Would love more stuff like this. Seriously
Tyler, I really loved how the lead didn't kick in and blow the reveal. Well crafted!
Congratulations she's definitely a keeper. Looks and sounds equally beautiful. 70s Strats are great, ask YJM
I absolutely love the maple fretboard on Fenders with any sort of a blue color body, one of the prettiest looking guitars across all makes and models - picked up one myself 8 months in electric blue with maple fret… but it was brand new lol
Congratulations… it’s a beauty… and the neck pick up sounds killer! Enjoy!
Great vid, congrats on the guitar! Just downloaded the new app, thanks for the inspiration you give us all. 🎸
I'm happy for you, man. Congrats. I will admit I was hoping your big announcement was new music, but this is cool too.
Great looking Strat, I really love those "70's" headstock models.
This hits home. As far as dream guitars go. You actually own my dream guitar. The Green PRS SC245 that Phil (Sharpen My Axe) absolutely went beast mode on. Dude.. Tyler.. I feel this my guy
Each guitar I buy I have the feeling that I’ have waited all my life for it…… Until the next one….. Fortunately I’m not already dead……
You look and sound great with that vintage guitar, congratulations Tyler.
Yeah, not close dude. There’s a reason they’re not in a successful band
You're a stud man, love this video. I also am very aware of the negative connotation with the 3 bolt 70's strats. good to see them getting some love. And my goodness does it sound incredible.
Don’t you already have a strat?
Wowsers that's nothing short of fantastic, I personally love 70s stratocasters.
jeff beck sold u that strat? Thats sick
Awesome! I just got my first vintage instrument a few months ago. 1977 Strat. Absolute killer
Now Fender needs to release 100 reproductions of this :) So glad you found this brother ! Finding a guitar that voices your inner soul is almost priceless ........almost HAHA .
Great choice Tyler!!
Dang you can make that beauty sing! Sounds awesome and lake placid blue for the win!!!!
I have a few vintage strats and quite frankly I choose them 99% of the time even over my Custom Shops which were built to my specifications. There's just something magical about playing a 50y+ old strat. Even if it's just mental trickery.
Yeah that's spellcasting for ya. I have the same feeling.
My brother in Christ, the amount of times you’ve gotten your “dream guitar” is off the charts, it’s also a strat, a guitar that has been produced since the 50’s, what the fuck are you on about?
“You just don’t see a guitar like this that often “ looks like any other fender
ONE OF THE BEST SOUNDING GUITARS I'VE EVER HEARD - AMAZING!
I'm 64 and still own my first electric guitar an early 70s Gibson melody maker w 2 p90s. I still play the heck out of it to this day.
I hope it will be given to other countries like the Philippines Im 16 years old my dream guitar is electric lespaul guitar I always watch and support you!! God bless!
I've been waiting a long time
For this moment to come, I'm
Destined for anything at all
Downtown, lights will be shining
On me, like in a diamond
Ring out under the midnight hour
Well, no one can touch me now, well
And I can't turn my back, it's
Too late, ready or not at all
Well, I'm so much closer than
I have ever known
Wake up!
Dawning of a new era calling
Don't let it catch you falling
Ready or not at all
Oh, so close enough to taste it
Almost, I can embrace this
Feeling on the tip of my tongue
Well, I'm so much closer than
I have ever known
Wake up!
Better thank your lucky stars
Say, hey, hey
Well, I'm so much closer than
I have ever known
Wake up!
You better thank your lucky stars
Say, hey, hey!
I've been waiting a lifetime
For this moment to come, I'm
Destined for anything at all
Dumbstruck, color me stupid
Good luck, you're gonna need it
Where I'm going, if I get there at all
Wake up!
And better thank your lucky stars
I've got my 1971 lake placid blue strat almost exactly like yours except for its 4-bolt net and skunk stripe neck. absolutely loves it.
Great content Tyler like always! Can an advanced player get much from Guitar Super System? If so what exactly, I’m thinking about trying it.
If by advanced, you mean weirder and faster, check out Rick Beato's videos. He loves playing in funky modes. That said, Tyler's lessons are very informative, delivered eloquently and have an accessibility that many other tutorial video lessons do not. Camera angles, edits, explanations of the "why" behind something, while peppering in some opinionated admiration. Tyler seems to have figured out just the right formula.
@@Londonjefsomething nice. I like trying different pay for online lessons. I know a lot are focused mostly on beginner and intermediate and I could most likely get stuff from intermediate… I try it out steal what i can, put it in my tool box. The more I learn it find it harder to get more advanced lessons even thought there is SO much more to learn. I just want to hear what others think. I can’t say I have given Rick Beato much time of day. Is there anything you’d recommend I check out of his?
@@captain4420 just dive in via his "what makes this song great" series. Pick an artist/song you already like and he'll probably touch on a few points that make you go: hmmm I'd not thought of it like that, or heard that before. Those little moments fuel your own curious discoveries from then on in. His page is a ride, a fun one, but a ride.
@@Londonjefsomething huh, sounds pretty cool. I’ll check that out. Thanks!
@@captain4420 got watch some of Ricks shorts or instagram to get a feel for some of the stuff he teaches. He posted a cool quartal guitar line idea today
I think you need to park the idea that you don't have a tonne of accomplishments mate. You do yourself a massive disservice. You're helping people to get into guitar. Beginners like me at 60 years old for one. Thank you.
I swear people act like the only guitars to exist are fenders and Gibsons
Uh oh! Tyler, you've been bit, there is no turning back, you are forever hooked to the pull of vintage guitars. Mark my words.
Aaaaand it's just another strat.
For those who are interested in strats, although not vintage, the new Fender Player series strat is incredible. Affordable and well- made, it sounds and plays unbelievable. I just bought one ( maple neck, blue- burst with a touch of aqua, absolutely stunning finish) I'm 64 yrs. old and playing since I was 11, this is hands down my favorite to this day...
Crazy that I was captivated by guitar playing at 9yrs old by Hendrix. But I’ve never had a strat or fender for that matter. I’ve always been into the Washburn / Jackson bodies. But I just bought a real teli. And it sounds amazing and plays like butter and has the fender tone
Congrats for that piece of history, i just subscribed to Guitar Super System this week and looked for an app and there wasn’t one so I’m glad to know that some days later you got that covered, greetings from Guatemala keep the good work 🎸🤘🏽
Not kidding about that intonation! Rings like a chime!
That Strat is from the year of my birth. It’s beautiful! I have a ‘78 white Strat and love it.
