I’m not trying to draw sympathy or anything, I’m way past my grief. She died of breast cancer in 2004. Her spirit is all around me especially when I’m in the bush camping & fishing, which we did so much of together for 17 years. So really we’re still together. Cherish her Jim. You won’t find ANYONE else like her. BELIEVE ME. . . .

Finally found a video without thousands of comments so hopefully you might actually read this. An a quick tip that might make your portages a little easier from an old jungle soldier is to carry a pair of garden secateurs. They are light and easily operated with one hand but able to clear a track through bushes to make life that much easier for you. Merry Christmas from Australia, we will be sweltering while you are cuddling up in front of a nice fire.

Lol, you know the level works just as well the way Tori uses it? I got on her case about it initially and she showed me how it still works laying it flat....so that means it’s just me with the issue 🤷♂️
Great DIY vid! You may want to consider adding some small diagonal sway braces under each horizontal beam, even if they are only a foot or so long. It will add a ton of support, especially if one side is heavier than than the other. Also will prevent warping of the horizontal beams over time by directing more weight to the vertical support beam. Also might be a good idea to be able to tie down the canoes, if you get a big wind storm, it's possible it could lift them up and off. Easy to add some quick hooks, and just do a quick wrap with some rope on each of them.

I've seen so many bad things on utube I'm not sure what to think. I just hope are country's open back up. I worry about the fishing camps in Canada. merry Christmas jim & tori just a thought if you spend another 5 minutes to put 6 more pieces in between the cross pieces it will strengthen the cross joint greatly and not allow side to side travel
Make sure you tie them down. I had one get lifted of the rack and land in my pool. If in the winter yours lift off it will land right side up and slide down the hill into the river. I am a subscriber and watch on regular basis.
That'll work 👍 You could bolt that down to a utility trailer too if need be. My Wife always tries to de-pants me when I get the canoe above my head and usually succeeds 😅😔
The profile of this rack has perpendicular boards only and it all rests on one vertical axis. Good thing you've got 6 canoes, not ant 5 or 3, but still... I hope you get my point. Bet of luck!

You could always make it stationary in the future when the ground isnt frozen by marking the cinder block spots, moving the canoe tree, digging post holes under the cinder blocks, dropping in a 4x4 (shou sugi ban the wood first to prevent rotting), filling the hole with cement, cutting the 4x4 off to flush level cinder block, ta dah. lol
Ya but it can do damage to the outer abs martial on the Royalex boats. I out a UV protectant cost on them. Still, it’s not major damage that you’ll see in the short term. I also don’t live in a southern climate where the sun is intense. We do get a lot of snow so I eventually added 45 degree angle 2x4 brackets to the underside of the upper 2x6 anchored on the vertical 4x4 and on the top side of the bottom horizontal piece
No prob. There is no list of materials and dimensions. Sorry about that. I added supports between the horizontal and vertical pieces on either side to deal with the heavy snow load we have here. Thanks a lot for watching.

We used 8-2X6 8ft board for the base and canoe supports, 2 2x6 16ft board for the x cross beam, trimmed the rest for the 2 8ft high 4x4 boards. Then used a 6 inch 4x4 in the middle of the x beam. Secured everything with 2 1lb boxes of 3 1/2 inch exterior screws. We love it!

How many prospector 15's you got? Is it your canoe of choice when going solo? Would be nice to have one but they cost 1943 CAD in sp3 here in Sweden so I'm leaning towards a packraft instead.
I have two, one Royalex and one Blue Steel. I have four 17’ Prospectors, three in Royalex and one in TuffStuff Expedition and then I have one tandem whitewater canoe, a 16.6’ Moisie in TuffStuff Expedition. So I actually have 7 canoes.....not counting the pakboat folding canoe my brother and I got for an arctic expedition in 2008.

Jim, you need an impact driver. Trust me it drives 3 - 4 inch screws with ease. Looks like you use a dewalt 12 volt, they make 12 volt impact drivers.

I thin a side to side support would hurt, back to front it quite sturdy. It’s solid though and can be moved, even bolted to a flat bed.

The blues steel composite one I put inside the pop up tent shed and the other ones I leave out. We get between five and 8’ of snow accumulation here.

Some gussets 4x4 to horizonal beams, they make galvanized versions. but what you have works.
