- Dr Samuel Ross, founder of men's fashion brand A-COLD-WALL*, describes his clothing as “armour for the now” - a personal, protective architecture for the body. Combining elements of sportswear, industrial design, and sharp tailoring, A-COLD-WALL* is revolutionising contemporary streetwear.
This film looks in detail at the Converge Gilet - a signature garment conveying protection, utility, and masculinity - now in the museum's collection. Ross explains the form and function of the piece and its inspiration, from his own fascination with raw materials like alabaster, to diverse historical art references and 20th-century public housing.

I'm surprised and disappointed by the amount of negative comments on this video. I find Samuel Ross one of the most exciting and inspiring designers I've ever come across - but my background is in art and music rather than fashion - perhaps his work speaks more to people working in varied fields than it does to the fashion elitists?
I love the way ACW blends dystopian and working class elements in a way that grounds it in reality more than the majority of "high" fashion - maybe this is why it speaks so much more to me (as a working class person) than most other fashion design - along with a few other pioneers such as Cav Empt.
Can very much agree!! A bit late but I also come from a music and art heavy background and appreciate his layered and considerate approach to design !!
Why would you want to wear clothes that look like the apple ad of 1984? You realise what the goal was there ? Maybe you like being controlled.
You realise the goal of ACW was to always control consciousness? You naively chose the wrong side here.

He’s in the occult
His entire demeanor is so calm and educated. ACW really makes you think about how fast paced life is in the current age and how people are genuinely indifferent to society. It demonstrates the need for protection and displays masculinity as an elegant concept

In art you really can pull inspiration from anywhere and make something with so much meaning like this. Samuel is a genius

ive watched a bunch of his interviews and feel like he doesnt know what hes talking about and just likes the sound of his voice. Whats the idea behind ACW? I still have no idea, and I dont think he has one either, at least not anymore. This feels like a parody of a fashion desginer.
you obviously have not done enough watching or reading into the brand to understand the full scope of what the brand conveys.
@@jolinras no trust me i have, it depends what standard you hold this brand to. to my standards, its only gibblets of information and emotion hanged on losely taped together skeletons. Its just no cohesive enough. Its bright as day.
