Purple fluorite and pyrite are common finds here as well as other minerals, especially coveted are small pockets of tiny crystals referred to as micromounts, microminerals, or thumbnail specimens.
Thats awesome! Thanks for the video!
The fluorite was ok but that pyrite was really nice! I'll definitely add this place to my list! I wish it wasn't so difficult to get into quarries.
Yeah the pyrite was from my first trip maybe 10 years ago or more. I don't think you get to pick where to be so it's the luck of the draw. The other kicker is you have to plan a trip on the weekdays and give a little advance notice.
Does the CaF2 fluoresce?
What is making it turn purple?
Can you tumble those ,,,what is the hardness?
I wouldn't think so, I'm not into polishing or tumbling (currently) but just assume you need a certain thickness of specimen to tumble.
Nice quarry, that’s crazy, never really heard of fluorite in Arkansas
I'm sure someone has gotten some fine fluorite specimens. I would love to see what others have pulled from here.
I’ll have to look for some more videos from there too, thanks for sharing your video
