You can't beat the thump of that motor and the low idle. Don't go too low and stave it of oil it will go low. Listen for little end eye rattle. I have had this in engines that give heaps of torque. My Subaru , my Volkswagen, my Triumph and my Royal enfield. Give them some revs it won't hurt them and fuel is cheaper than rebuilds. After market parts can be low quality.
Those 650 Intercepters are good bikes , see plenty of them over here in the U.K, my neighbour has one and it really goes well, sounds nice too on standard pipes, she keeps up with me no problem at all and I'm on a Triumph America 900.

I'm in India riding a classic 350 since 5 yrs and trust me it hasn't disappointed me even for a day. The road grip and presence is really awesome. I also have a Honda scooter for grocery shopping but my Mum only prefers Royal Enfield if she wants to go a for a short ride.

The gt or interceptor 650 has nice performance , and the single cylinder thumper Re are meant for cruising and both bikes are practical , these have been used since ages here in india , the material selection of the gt650 is impressive , i guess they are using good grade Al alloy in their engines similar to harleys
