Thank you for this video. I installed a Boost Auto Parts - Cargo lights on with Reverse lights jumper near my 2017 Silverado BCM and I unplugged two of the BCM connectors. The next day I had this steering message, again and again. I went to the dealer and explained to them what I learned from this video and sure enough, this was exactly the issue. They were able to delete the codes. I came off looking like an expert. Gotta love RUclips and posters like you. :-)
I just encountered this a few weeks ago. I followed the advice given in one of the videos. 1. Remove battery 2. Clean negative post 3. Replace battery All done, worked like a charm.
Thanks for the video. My 2019 Tahoe with 2,510 miles had same issue with steering, plus wouldn't get out of 1st gear and reverse was GRINDING! Called for wrecker which 2 hours later showed up and the problem magically fixed itself. Drove to dealer anyway and no problem was found. Just fricken great! Year goes by and just had same thing happen in my garage and absolutely no reverse. Come out 2 hours later and again, magic it works. Taking it back in hopefully they know what the deal is now. Very unsettling not knowing if my vehicle is going to work.
I had similar issues in my 2010 tahoe, but with steering, suddenly it came very hard to steer, then it magically fixed it self. Went to the dealer and told me nothing was going on. I had the same issue for 2 months and was about to order a new steering rack. Then I just went on the road and I think the steering just broke and I crashed into a wall. Nothing happened but I think I am not ever buying a chevy again. (Excuse my english, as it isn't my first language).
Mine got me home at lunch to let the Pups out then refused to start. Then when it did? A Christmas tree. It would idle but not go into gear. I coxed her with the 4Hi and 4Low tease to go to the mechanic who...turned into a mental midget and put a New Battery and handed her back to me. I lost 4 days of work and still "Warning Lights" for Stabiltrac and ABS and my Parking Brake. Not a single "Check Engine" light. The lose of Power steering is simple to me. Wear my Grandfathers Fedora Hat and drive like him! GM knows about this. I am a very interested person as far as Recalls. I used to build the Dies that stamped out the Trucks parts. The Electronics Division needs my attention to make a more sealed Control / Fuse box!
@chrismair8161 what did you do to fix the power steering? My denali is doing the same thing. Brake, stibiltrack, abs, warning lights all on and no power steering
This happened to me after try to programa an additional key with an inexperienced technician, after reading a post that unplugging the battery for 10min the message will disappear, I tried and it works. Be careful not to break the nut that tightens the battery positive pole because it happend to me
I also found out that if your thermostat and temp sensor are working intermittently, it can make your steering assist light come on. The vehicle has to know it is at working temp, and it heats the grease up in the power steering assist for it to work properly.
I had this issue with my 2017 Malibu. Dealership gave me several options to fix the issue. The day I was to take it in my battery died. We had 2014 chevy wt pickup 4x4 regular cab . It got to where it would not steer . It threw a power steering service warning up . You could let it sit over night and the next morning it may steer and be drivable . Drive it to work , after work it would not work . Had to drive it home 30 miles like a pulp wood truck . So i drove to dealer . They tested it and said it had no com . They said the steering rack module was bad . Replacement was $2,000 and $1,300 labor . They charged $125.00 diagnose that . So heck with that . I drove it home to my shop . Put it on my lift and up she goes .I pulled the harness out . I done a continuity on wires . All where good . I had a problem with the bottom filth wire getting a pin in the plug in to check continuity. I felt like one of the spade connectors was broke off in it . I looked in the motor plugin at the bottom . Sure enough the bottom spade was missing on the 5 spade side of the plugin . Its got a 4 spade side toward front and a 5 spade side to rear . When I initially unplugged this thing it was full of water .The entire plugin was saturated . I got to order a new harness , because I can’t get the broke spade out $140.00 and im buying a late model used Steering module for $400.00 out of a wreaked 2014 with very low miles . Im going to install myself and put a good bit of dielectric grease in those plugins . Maybe silicone spray them good afterwards . Then i got to pulp wood truck drive to Chevrolet dealer ship and get it reprogrammed and calibrated . Another $125.00 charge . Just letting you guys know what to look for . GM is ripping the shades trees a knew arse on this one . But we will adapt .
Ramos Lopez no. It was a broke pin in the power steering module. We changed out entire unit . It needs reprogrammed afterwards . However it did steer after we got it changed out . But it has to syn with the steering sector module in the mass jacket , to calibrate the stability Track, and ABS,
