    European here! One of these rallys came to my city when I was about 7. I was in catholic school and they came there handing out flyers. The nuns told us kids not to go because these rallys were run by bad people trying to use the lord's name to spread hate and make money by misrepresenting Jesus.
    When my mom picked me up she saw some flyers and got annoyed. She said something to a nun walking past and the nun scoffed and said "Don't we all have better things to do than yell at homosexuals."
    It's ingrained I'm my memory because it was the first time I found out there were other Christians and that some of them were "mean". It blew my little mind.
    And I'm not saying catholisism is flawless, but I will forever be grateful for Sister Justina and her insistance of us all loving our neighbors.

    Genealogist here. I did some cursory research. I found a family tree online for Copeland's father. That tree does include connections to a Native American Chief in the Carolinas, Nicholas Keziah, via a marriage between his "daughter" (may be his sibling/cousin) Sarah and William Winchester. While there is no "proof" of this connection, the family lore regarding this connection is strong enough that within a generation or two, descendants were being named "Keziah." There are hints online that the tribe has their own lore that seems to validate the assertions.
    I also discovered that while Copeland is mostly of English Puritan ancestry, he also some Spanish, German, and Irish ancestors.
    Oh, and it appears he is related to Elvis Presley.

    • @searchingfororion
      @searchingfororion 8 месяцев назад +17

      Firstly, apologies for length;
      If I were him I would lean more on being related to The King (his singing abilities actually give a little bit of inherited trait argument, though ironically I suspect more people would flip tables about that claim...)
      Since I can't see your source, and admittedly I am not personally invested enough to track it down myself, (though for the record I in no way doubt your professional credentials - I would *never* do that and want to prevent my next portion to be misconstrued as doing so) I'm a skeptic regarding family trees - especially due to personal experience reviewing others and especially my own, typically constructed before the golden era of ancestry and other similar dotcoms...
      Things get murky even if documents exist (which I've found to be rare in the cases of celebrities and ones created and passed down by an individual family archivalist, typically a layman who 'traced their history as far back as...') this leads to forms of heritage "lore" that creates confusion and/or contradiction when explored externally. Or the documents are inconclusive, incomplete, have potential counter documents - even in our 'modern' era.
      There was a situation where an in-person request was made at the records office for one of my grandfather's official documents; after a rigorous search via the computer the clerk went to the cabinet and produced the only document the state had as proof that he ever existed - his death certificate. My grandmother was horrified. Luckily she did not have a heart attack because he had gone with her. But it was indeed *his* death certificate with his full unique name, SS, location and date of birth, and, obviously, cause, time and date of death - twenty years prior. He was *very* much alive when this happened (something the clerk was foolish enough to try to argue with him about when he was concerned about his wife's emotional state) until he provided all the evidence necessary *and more* and they have been planning to present in order to get what they had originally requested. (Tangentally he wasn't even in the area documented at the time the DC recorded. It also made a bizarre mess when he *did* die 15 years after their visit... 35 years after the "first" time.)
      Myself as an example: the main archivalist for my family tree, on her side, was my great-grandmother. Due to her generation, the era, and technology all was done "by hand" (e.g public records, documents, ect) before my mother was even born. This was a passion project for her and obviously a painstaking process she spent at least 3 decades on. *Yet* - despite it accepted as the complete 200+ years of history on the subject there were *glaring* issues:
      - many of my great aunts and uncles (her own children) were not included. No falling out or animosity there was no reason for this omission.
      - "Family Mythos" without disclosing too much that would partially dox me (and unfortunately omitted is more related to your original comment) many incredibly well-known names are on the list but the claim that cannot stand up to any scrutiny is "also from direct descendants of Jesse James" - who had *no* children.
      TLDR: IMHO, when it comes to public figures making public statements especially to get a certain amount of personal gain *especially* if the gain is at a personal and most likely financial expense of the tremendously underprivileged when the individual is exact opposite *and* what they're claiming is something verifiable for any middle-class household (and all that concerns you about being of The People is putting their name in your mouth - not even lineage, history, or culture?) - DNA or it didn't happen.
      If Susan up the street was able to mail in a swab and hair sample to get a full profile in 3 weeks (and 1/2 the people I know have done the same thing for their *dogs* to determine their mix and they're on SS) - I think Ken can get a panel run.

      Because part of the Cherokee nation helped the Confederacy during the Civil War because they promised to protect their land rights if they won (modern day Tennessee and Wilson Lake Valley) that then caused lots of Cherokee and Chickasaw to marry into or be 🍇 ed into white southerner’s families that and close relationships with French,Dutch and British settlers during the War of 1812 especially amongst translators and linguists where they also again married into European families…so that is why lots of white southerners claim that they are 1/25 Cherokee or have a “full blooded great great great great grandfather".

    I think one of the most harmful ideas these movies (and many pastors) perpetuate is that you become a good person when you become a Christian. I work in a drug and alcohol rehab and have worked with gangsters, perpetrators of domestic violence, crimes I don’t even want to write here. And most of them identified as Christians the whole time. They (people who make movies like this) just make it seem like it’s so simple, but people are complicated.
    Also thank you for what you said about addiction recovery. It is very difficult but also very possible. If anyone reading this needs help there is so much support out there. ❤

He came all the time to my 35,000 population small town (Moose Jaw) Saskatchewan and performed at the Christian youth (Chem free) drop in center, called Joe's Place. He would play for like max 50 kids, 14 volunteers, and like 5 staff. He was really nice to the kids and made a point to check in with them yearly and hear updates. Genuinely a nice guy.
