    Micarta or Phenolic can be eyedroppered but it absorbs ink and will stain. It can soak through the barrel with time. You can also use polyurethane to seal the Micarta and give it a gloss finish.

      That's good to know, thanks for the input!

      sbrebrown one thing about polyurethane, it will darken the material. I saw a TWSBI Micarta treated with it and it turned almost a dark cherry wood color.

    Stephen, thanks for another interesting review. For the price and the amount of customization that can be done to the pen, it is really a great price. Must admit when I first saw the pen that I thought it was made out of bamboo (silly me!), but it really is a stunning piece of work.
    Congrats on the purchase, now I must go an update my "list"😊😊

    I love this pen! Just beautiful. I have contacted Joseph about ordering a similar pen. Thank you.

    Steven (and Joseph): I like it! A lot. I wish I had the funds to support it but am watching that closely for now. That's a shame because it's such a nice looking pen, it would be my first Micarta material pen and it would be my first #8 nib. Thanks a bunch for the look-see though. Now I'm envious. Best wishes to Joseph and his pen making endeavors.

    I have a Bock Broad nib and because it writes so well upside down as well as write way up its like having 2 pens in one. I have it on my Metal edc pen, a Jinhao 886 and love it.
    This pen you are showing here is beautiful. A tad big for me though.

    Thank you, Stephen. I like the clip placement relative to the flat crown.

    Thank you Stephen for a very interesting review! I think it's quite a looker with the grain of Oak wood but in green. I have to say that I was teasing you a few reviews ago on the use of quite an unpleasant ink color, and although the ink here is somewhat similar, it oddly works coming out of THIS pen. Go figure. If I saw someone writing with this pen and to add to that visual, this color, I'd be very impressed. If you have his email to pass along, that would be terrific. I'd like to follow up to see if he makes styles with sightly less girth.

    Nice. I want to have one, the cocbolo ones look interesting.
    I wonder, what made you choose these nibs ?

    A question for those with micarta pens: do micarta threads fatigue over time? Do they stop becoming air-tight?

  • @edwinparker6732
    @edwinparker6732 6 лет назад +1

    Micarta consists of fabrics and fibres so don't be surprised that machining it for perfect fit and finish is difficult, especially those screw threads.

    Interesante estilográfica, que evidentemente esta hecha "a mano", porque los ajustes no son nada buenos, por decirlo de alguna decente manera. El material se ve llamativo, me gusta que las lineas sean estables y nada comparables a las de las de ebonita, que en general siempre asumen patrones irregulares. La punta #8 se ve genial.
    Entiendo que cuesta $50 dólares y eso me parece justo para la calidad de acabados que se perciben. Cordial saludo.

    Fit and finish looks horrible. Look at the gap between the cap and the body and how the gap varies as he spins the pen around.

    • @randy-9842
      @randy-9842 6 лет назад +2

      Steve Hollatz and Joseph -- I wonder if the gap between the cap and body could be rounded a bit where they meet? That would make the gap (and a little bit of any misalignment) less noticeable. Is it the LB5's that kind of do that?

    • @limmoblack

      It's unique, and you're not going to get another like it, which makes it a collectors item.If i were you i'd order one. And it's bin prescribed by Doc Brown no less, so it's a win/win

    Maybe it's just me but that ink looks like someone puked into the ink well
