Ha 11:02 you were in Esslingen with this lens :D
Great detailed video! Seeing the result you showed I wouldn't get this lens simply because of the price and the performance based on it. The Canon 50mm 1.4 FD looks for my eyes better and is cheaper to get. But perhaps I'm biased since I own the Canon FD from my father, who bought it new in the 80's :D
Very cool to see a new long form video from you! It is hard to grow a channel in parallel to kids and as you said, family first!
Hope your kid is healthy again. Have a nice weekend!

Hehe! you found it. ;-) That was on our trip during christmas market time. We were lucky with the weather, but it was very cold! :-D
The canon is definetly better in terms of sharpness. It is also 10 years newer and pretty cheap this days. I just like the nikons bokeh more, so that is my personal favorite up to now. But perhaps i find a better one in my collection some time. :D
I think the next long form video will will be a little more gathered, than this one. But i found some you in a lens i got from my oncle this christmas. Pretty much a cheapo cheap plastic fantastic, but supprisingly good for that. :D
Yes, the children are healty again. This time there was a cold, that kept them coughing for several weeks. Very exhausting for all of us. But luckily it is over now. :)
Have a nice weekend, too. :)

Great video! I used the 50mm planar for a while but really hated the handling. You can't hold the lens without turning some dial. On the other hand the canon fd lenses are trully amazing ! I have the same 50mm nFD and it's incredibly sharp even compared to modern lenses!

I also decided to use the canon for comparison because it is 10years more of lens research and that came out in the test. But the canon has not that bokeh in the mid range focus. Here the nikon is better in my taste. But the differences are small. And the canon can be really cheap. 50mm 1.4 for under 80€ is quiet a deal. :D

ty for the review. I have the 50mm f1.7 version of this lens and tbh, i don't use it much. i'm not a fan of the severe cat's eye bokeh. its not a bad lens at all, just not wild enough in the character department. i prefer the za 55mm f1.8 sonnar most of the time these days.

      Thanks for the commen. :)
In any case, there are only 2 types of opinions for cat's eyes ;)
The sonar has an enormous advantage over the planar. It has autofocus. I've always thought about replacing it with another 50mm, but apart from the Sony 50mm 1.4, none really appeals to me. But for being quite expensive, the real difference is quite small.

@@manugeee I have both sony zeiss lenses - the 55mm f1.8 and the 50mm f1.4 (the autofocus is no good and its heavy) . I would trade them both in for a brand new sony gm 50mm f1.4 if i didn't have to pay out more cash.

Thanks for sharing! Really nice videos about vintage glass!!
Which 50mm f1.4 would you recommend to adapt to EF (video mainly, focus ring should not move, my idea is to use with focus gear on follow focus)?
Keep doing this reviews, really cool nowadays :)

      Thanks for your comment. :-)
Hmm... i am not so firm in terms of adapting to EF and in film cameras. I think it is possible, once I have adapted a Canon fd 50mm to EF. But because of the smaller flange distance, it is not to easy, as with mirrorless systems.
So far, I liked the Nikon 50mm f1.4 ai-s pretty much. The Pentax SMC 50mm f1.4 is also very nice. These are my favourites so far.
The next tests will also come. :) At the moment I have not that much time, and I am switching to the Nikon ZF for the tests, which takes it´s time. But at the moment, I am using the Nikon 50mm ai-s pancake Japan version. So the test will come, i just don´t know when. :)
