- If you buy your wheat flour wholesale and reuse your oil like I do, a plate of these chips is like 25 cents.
Basic "recipe" (I always eyeball this, so go by sight and feel):
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup water* (you may need more or less)
a pinch of salt
Combine the ingredients into a dough that is soft and moist, but not too sticky. (a little stick on your hands at first is okay, but if it keeps sticking after a couple minutes, add more flour 1 tablespoonful at a time.)
Coat the dough in flour, cover with a cloth, and let it rest for at least 20 minutes.
Separate the dough into 6 balls roughly of equal size. Roll out each ball until it is the thickness of a tortilla chip. Cut each circle of dough into 4 pieces (or however you'd like.)
Heat a heavy-bottomed skillet of 1 inch of oil to 350 degrees F.
Fry the chips about 6 at a time for 2-3 minutes, flipping halfway. Cook until golden (which is difficult to see, since these are whole wheat, but do your best.) Do a couple test chips if this is your first time. Chips should be crispy and not tough to chew. If they're tough, roll them out thinner. If they're not crisp, cook them longer.
Place fried chips onto paper towels and sprinkle with salt.
Serve with yogurt dip:
1/3 cup plain full fat Greek yogurt
a splash of lemon juice
a small garlic clove, grated
salt and pepper
minced fresh herbs (if you've got them)

Halfway through making this video, I finally accepted that I can no longer use that video camera. So until I can afford either a new camera or a good tripod with a phone attachment, I'll be shooting these on my phone without a tripod.
👏 👏 👏 EXCITED VIDEO👍
I don't buy any kinds of chips at the grocery stores bc of the prices. I just can't convince myself to pay so much for just bags of chips. But, I still like to eat them here and there. I make potato chips every now and then. This wheat chips look so yummy. I will definitely make for myself very soon. Thanks for sharing.
oh boy, I am getting back out of bed and making these
