seeing these always makes me feel so sad. I yearn for the nostalgia of going shopping with my friends and being at a mall all day and never running out of things to do. It wasn't just about material goods and services it was a social mecca and place to feel connected to each other. What does it say about us as a society that those places of connection are all shutting down?
This mall looks IDENTICAL to the Illinois Center Mall in Marion, IL, which is now dead. Completely the same. Even the outside looks identical. I guess they had the same building plan.
It's sad that shopping malls are a dying breed today, thanks in part to the advent of online shopping. I have to admit I love that retro video game store at 2:23, especially since it has statues of Mario and Sonic in it.
The first malls were open air & then in the 1980's they enclosed the malls. Kid's would hang out in the Malls & or the parks - no cell phones so parents did not track you. Now people can buy anything on Amazon etc. Kid's barely leave the house. Malls were nice at Christmas Time.
This mall also had Sears as an anchor. Sears is closed forever. I worked at this mall when I was a sophomore in high school setting up the new Carson Pirie Scott store. My Mom worked at Carson’s in the old location for many years before moving to the mall when it opened in 1990. I always thought the mall was really beautiful especially with all the skylight.
My town has two malls. One is dead but was never really alive to begin with. The other which is on the newer side, late 2000s, was bumpin then and still constantly bumpin now. Including PC Penney.
I was in a hotel that was next to the mall. It's a shame it was closed, would have been fun to stop there and do some shopping. I feel like they could have used this mall in Stranger Things.

You took the words right out of my mind. And you are right; it is an accurate reflection of the deterioration of the social fabric of this country. 💯

Cool designs in this mall. Shame to see all this space just going to waste.
I like the skylights and atriums can’t we repurpose the spaces for education or health care

It’s depressing 😮

I live right by this mall and I'm so sad that it's dead. It is beautiful inside 😢
It's beautiful. Can it be repurposed?
