  • History of Sydney's Harbord Beach Tramline. A short story about a tram line that only lasted for 14 years - and went to a destination that no longer exists (well the place does but it's name has changed to Freshwater). The more things change.. the more they stay the same... who would have thought Trams would make it back to Sydney...
As you are taking the time (thanks) to read the cover notes...
This was our first ever video. I hope (think?) we have improved the presentation since then....
Videos on this channel are not meant to be 100% accurate historical records. Having said this, we do try to ensure its factually correct by using multiple sources from what we think are credible books, websites, blogs and articles..
Sydney tramlines didn't use colours (or even route numbers) to denote lines - instead they used the 'termini' of each line as its name. We have selected colours just to differentiate the lines visually on the maps.

Every now and then as I cycle around Sydney I find a street that somehow doesn’t feel “right”. Don’t get me wrong, they’re often brilliant streets to cycle on. Oliver St is just such a street. The width, the curves, the constant gentle slope, and signs of cuttings are four clues that you’re riding on a road that once was a tramway.

The same.. now I am on the look out whenever I am driving for the same.. especially those 'very wide' streets that are now quiet or a dead end. Like Talyor Street in Annandale.. now a dead end.. but once the busy Lilyfield line ran down it.

Hi Marty, thanks for an excellent video. I have actually seen some old postcards of trams operating at Manly. Thanks for sharing the details of where the trams operated. Anyway, take care. Rob in Melbourne Australia.

Thanks Rob for the comments. Appreciate them. Sorry not to reply until now but I have been travelling for my 'day job' the last month.. on spare days / weekends I have filmed remnants of former trams in Manila, Philippines; Singapore and HaNoi; Vietnam. Not sure if this channel is interested in trams in other countries.. what do you think?

Thanks TB! I have a full time job (not in public transport) so this is a hobby for me... but have loved trams since my mum took me to the Loftus Tram Museum when I was about 5 years old... I am too young to have seen the original trams in Sydney..

Yes same here overally.. but the Freshie Beach line is one I think we can all agree probably shouldn't have been built and if survived past the 1970s today would have closed today (and I am biased as I live not to far from it today :) )

That's so interesting I use to look after a man who was a tram driver I had no idea how extensive the network really was.

Great video! The only thing letting you down here is your mic levels. Just a tip, learn how to use compression (I recommend doing this in Audacity) and also pay attention to how close you are sitting to your mic when you do takes. Make sure you're always the same distance from the mic between takes. You've got this my man!

Hey thanks. Have to say watching RUclips videos is much easier than making them - so enjoy @JagoHazzard @geofftech2 etc - they make it look much easier than it is. Yes good call.. was the first video made so thanks for good feedback.. need to work on that and have not quite worked out my 'delivery' either.. should have it sorted by video 100 :)
