    In this video I share with you a quick impromtu drive and walkaround tour of Racingline's 520 PS 7.5 Golf R demonstrator which normally lives at Awesome GTI in Manchester. The main aim of the video is to explain how this Golf has ended up with 210 more horsepower than stock and to demonstrate its performance as best as I can responsibly on the public highway.

    That's not turbo lag. It's called being in the wrong gear. If you put any car, turbo or non turbo in a high gear and try to pull away it will not pull away fast. That is most definitely not lag

    • @vagwiz
      @vagwiz Год назад +9

      Not sure what your point is. It’s a lot laggier than a standard turbo car in the same gear/rpm, even Racingline admit this and tune the gearbox to work around it in auto mode. Sure 7th gear wasn’t the best choice hence why I changed down but in either gear there was more lag

    • @h2489-m2l

    • @chrisyoung5573
      @chrisyoung5573 Год назад

      @@vagwiz Hi, i think the point i was badly trying to make is yes there will be a certain amount of lag on all turbo charged cars and more on heavily modified cars like that but it's not as bad as you are portraying it to be. All cars will take time to build up speed if your in the wrong gear for the speed your travelling. ( Turbo or non turbo) If your in the right rev range in the right gear the lag is non existent. You used to be able to take a mk2 3.8 Jag from 0 to 100 all in the same 4th gear but until you reached the optimum speed for that 4th gear it was a very slow process. Hope all this waffle has made it slightly clearer what i'm trying to get across

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Год назад +1

      @Max Torque It's not good for the engine but it's part of the testing process and the gearbox allowed me to select that gear - if it was so bad the DSG's programming wouldn't allow it

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Год назад +2

      @@chrisyoung5573
      "but it's not as bad as you are portraying it to be" - you are seeing the car as it is behaving, that's the beauty of video, it's as bad or good as it is on the screen. It's no surprise that it does what it does because it's a BIG turbo and the trade off for some lag is explosive performance in the powerband which is the overriding impression that the video gives.

I had a different exhaust (REMUS) which sounded more rounded than the one in the video. 0-60 in 3 flat. 100-200kph in 6.5 and standing quarter in 10.7 at 130mph all at full weight on road tyres. These engines are solid and are good for up to 500hp before needing some internal work done to keep things from blowing up.

    The thing is about the Golf R and S3 unless you get the DSG Fart on every gear change they’re a relatively boring car. I can't wait to tune my Cupra Ateca with the same base engine. It's the 300HP/400NM tune of it. I still have 4 years 11 months warranty remaining LOL so I just can't bring myself to do it yet but I know I won't wait the full 5 year warranty period. There is only one Cupra dealer per state in Australia, all sales are done online really, and he told me they don't have the infrastructure set up like VW and Audi do where it automatically reports if the car has been tuned when taken to service, so I am trying to negotiate a deal with him to keep quiet about it so I can at least do a Stage 1+ for now (ECU tune and Gearbox tune). In a few years I will definitely go to 2+ and when totally out of warranty, assuming the car has been reliable, I will go all the way to Stage 3. It's just such a comfortable car that I don't want to get rid of it, even if I do get a performance EV next. I am 6ft4 and this little Ateca is THE most comfortable car I have ever owned. I also owned an RSQ3 in 2016, the second engine revision of the original model. That's mum's now. I was comfy in that but nothing is like the Ateca. The wheel and seat have so much adjustability that I think anyone from 4ft10 to 6ft7 would be able to find a perfect position. I LOVE taking it for long interstate drives like you did in the RSQ3. I have already taken it up north, 1700KM each way, and will take it all the way to Perth later in the year (from one side of Australia to the complete opposite other).
    I love the EA888 and really enjoyed this video. Love Golf R's. Just too low for me to get comfortable.
