      Hey Destin.
I know it's a little late, but I was thinking a bit about what you were saying about not vlogging your family. I fully respect your desire to not do so, but I thought I might just give a couple counter-arguments to your reasons not to...
You are certainly right that it can go too far and have negative effects; my wife was a big fan of that "famous vlogging family" you mentioned, and I couldn't help but get attached too, watching over her shoulder. It's terrible what happened with them and it's a good example of basically why trusting in strangers, even ones you think you know, is a bad idea. I also think that the way they did it was borderline exploitative.
I guess the desire to vlog also depends a lot on how easily you are put off by comments online... People may say nasty things like they did on that Easter Sunday video and your girl shooting the .22.
That said, I think the main argument *for* sharing more personal content is the potential net *good* it could be for many people... As Christians, we talk all the time about living out our faith. Nothing can replace personal interaction but the internet is an effective platform for reaching more people by just living an example and explaining why we are the way we are.
Many people don't have great social environments or are just hungry for sincere and effective living, and that's one of the things that draws people to you, I would say. Vloggers may exploit those needs by giving people tons of content portraying a "perfect family," to obsess over, and that's not healthy for anyone. But I think there's a better and more effective way to do it... not one that leaves you sad about your own condition but makes you inspired to improve yourself. I believe you are capable making such an influence, even as you are showing people that rednecks can learn some cool science stuff too. ;)
As far as influence on your kids is concerned, I think a casual approach; not daily videos, but like you have with the videos you share now; could potentially help your kids understand the societal influence of the internet without it become a force of peer pressure, like you mentioned. I believe that it, like homeschooling, is something that if done right, could be a good learning experience.
I wouldn't want you to film and share more of your family simply out from being pressured to please others, but I think there's significant net gain in doing so. Your *personal* influence, not just your professional one, is your greatest legacy. I know that I for one am not just made happier by your personal content, but also inspired, to a degree.
      Sincerely,
A potentially selfishly-motivated Canadian brother in Christ. ;)
P.S. Please check your "message requests" on Facebook... Had something to share about "The Veldt."

Matt, your point at 6:30 about Paul's beheading and why he's typically depicted with a sword reminds me of a comment I heard from a Roman Catholic priest. He explained that Paul is often depicted with a sword pointed toward the ground because it shows his repentance from being a persecutor to a defender of the faith.
Thank you for putting together this video. It was fascinating and I enjoyed it!

Been watching since Destin first recommended the channel a good while back, often very late at night when my kiddo with special needs needed a travelling buddy in life from midnight to 6am so I didn't comment much. I just went through and binged watched the lot over a few weeks. It was amazing to see you develop as a content creator. I love your content and the way you present it. I appreciate the way you don't talk down to your audience but you don't downplay your own knowledge either. I feel comfortable recommending your channel to a lot of people in my life from very diverse walks knowing that you will present scripture well, respecting the document and the viewer. There is exactly one other channel that creates Bible content that I feel as comfortable recommending to a diverse crowd (The Bible Project) and you are more appealing and accessible to a lot of my non-christian and non-academic friends. You are absolutely nailing it in your new series. I can see how God is using a lot of the different elements of your personality and history and knowledge (that you have generously shared here and on the podcast) to work through you and create something pretty cool that furthers his kingdom. Thanks for letting God use you to encourage a tired Mum from downunder and reach out to the delightfully snarky uni student, history nerd middle-aged atheiest or questioning high schooler on her Facebook friends list.

The Ten Minute Bible Hour Wonderful initiative! Forgot to mention, that I am writing from Austria, and that I have a great deal of relatives that are Lutherans, and for the most part (there is is always the exception) we enjoy looking and finding the common ground rather than the differences. I believe that in times like these, where Christianity and Christians are being so hardly persecuted, is where we most need inspiring people like you. God bless.

Wow, nice job man. I can't put it in words, but there's a difference between watching a documentary and seeing a video about a friend's trip and sharing the emotion. Your expertise on the subject was more than I'd expect from the History Channel, but you communicated the emotion in those places as if I was right there. I could even smell that prison! I trust your judgement as to the validity in these places, and I'm glad you interjected your thoughts/ opinions on everything. I love (and share) your skeptical spirit. It gives you credibility.

Just finished the book of Luke-Acts and I feel like I've never read the Bible before (even though I've heard/read it in bits and pieces all my life). I never realized how the Bible trails off with Paul's story before. One question that maybe you can answer is did Dr Luke travel with him and if so, why didn't he mention himself explicitly? Was that literary tradition? Thanks for all your videos! They help me see the Bible clearer.

Sword theory: Christianity is represented by the cross, which was the item of Christ's earthly death. Since Christianity is represented symbolically by worldly objects that represent the overcoming of a worldly event, it only makes sense that Paul is depicted with a sword. May be obvious/weird observation, but I figured I'd throw my two cents in.

Can you do one on Marcion editing Paul's texts, James rebuttal of Paul, or Paul's change from hunting Christians to becoming one all after the death of Jesus.

Nero neither blamed the fire on Christians or persecuted them, there is little evidence of any Christians in Rome at that period.

The existence of Paul has long been disputed. Justin Martyr who wrote thousands of pages about The Early Christians and who lived at the same era, never mentions Paul´s name. The translators of the King James Bible saw inconstancies and made extensive notations as to the correct chain of custody citing that actually the letters are nothing but preachments of doctrine. What handwriting expert has certified these documents? Many early christian scholars have long doubted the reality including the famous Terrullian. If Paul was executed in Rome, why is there not a death warrant signed my the them emperor in national the archives?

So, you're saying Paul was the inspiration for Rand's "The Fountainhead"? That's definitely the point of this video, right?

"Okay you're not dumb. These relics and claims of things that have to do with saints, especially from the First Century AD, don't hold up under scrutiny."
    I guess I'm dumb.
