    I cook it the same way as explained but for "20 min"
    Instead of fifteen.....
    "PERFECT" LOVE IT.!!
    OH....
    I ALSO ADD BUTTER.
    1/2 STICK TO TWO CUPS OF RICE. AND A HALF TEASPOON OF GARLIC POWDER...IT SMELLS LIKE I'M AT THE MOVIES IN THE APT. A VERY HOT BUTTERED POPCORN AROMA PERMEATES THE WHOLE APT.!!

    At 2:03, omg his water is still cloudy. Rice won't come out fluffy and detached. I wash by hand until water is 90% clear. I collect that waste water to water my plants in the garden.
    When I cook basmati rice, I wash and then soak for 45 minutes. Then drain and cook in clean water for just 7 min on the hob. So I save on gas bill. If I do not pre-soak, the cooking can take as long as 15 min. *Question* Do you know how long pre-soaked rice would take in microwave?

    • @cookingwithoutaclue1516
      @cookingwithoutaclue1516  5 лет назад

      Sorry I don't know how long pre-soaked rice would take in the microwave . Time is not a luxury we have much of nowa days, so soaking rice does not fit in with our lives.

    • @Natasha26
      @Natasha26 5 лет назад +1

      I wash and soak the rice before prepping my veg. By the time I am done chopping onions, veg and meat up, it is usually half an hour gone by. Pretty close to 45min I aim for. Then cooking time is halved. Lots of gas saving especially if calculated over a year. :-)

    • @ramabananananarama4860
      @ramabananananarama4860 5 лет назад +1

      Yes, basmathi needs to be soaked. I find that in the microwave, the water and time needed is the same as unsoaked non-basmathi rice. Basmathi rice or any rice will cook well enough if rinsed 3 times no need till clear. And yes the water is good for plants!

    • @Natasha26

      @Anna Soaked and unsoaked have different cooking times on gas. So it is puzzling if it makes no difference in the microwave.
      Just washed and no soaking - 12min on gas + fluff up with fork + 10min resting in closed container
      Washed and soaked for 30 min - 7min on gas + fluff up with fork + 10min resting in closed container

    OK, so I just did everything in this video...except my microwave only cook at 6mins. at a time. Once it stopped, it was stopped for about 20secs, I added another 6mins., and then the water started bubbling out of the rice cooker onto the microwave's rotating glass table. SMH! I guess I should try adding more time just before it hits 0:00 to avoid the bubble over. Rice is cooked perfectly after 13 and a half mins. in an 1100 watt microwave. Hopefully that helps someone else that might have had this happen to them. Now I've got a lil mess to clean before dinner. SMH!😅

      In Asia, we first measure the thickness of the rice after flattening it out in the rice cooker. Then add double depth of water to it. Say like if the rice is 1cm thick, add water until the water level is 1 cm above the surface of the flatten rice. Of course it is done approximately and little bit more or less water only affects the texture. Add tiny bit less water if you like it chewy, add more if you like it soft.

    reallyyyyyyyyyy come on man everyones fingers are different that is a crazy way to measure rice and get some taste in there! use chicken stock instead of water.

    This is how not to cook rice and cook it un higinicly ... you leave it in the steamer after 12 mins in the microwave for 6min so it cooks correct... silly this way will over cook it and leave it dry.

      Really? Most people I know from Japan and the islands nearby (including my mother's home island) ALWAYS wash rice - even more thoroughly than what he demonstrates. All that starch is what so many people making rice find makes the rice clumpy, over sticky and not great tasting. Beyond that he did demonstrate how to use the rice cooker.

      It’s not the point I was trying to make. I was trying to find a quick answer. It already says on the rice packet to rinse the rice!! I just wanted to know how the rice cooker works. That’s all. I guess I have to make a quick video for people like me that don’t have time for trawling through waffle.

    Rice? It was very caked, that is not rice is mortar to build castles. The emulsion of water and starch comes out. I see this product for pasta or vegetables

    2 cups rice = 4 cups water
    Microwave for 10 mins then wait 5 mins
    Perfect rice
    4 cups rice = 8 cups water
    14 mins microwave then leave for 5 mins perfect rice
    You can wash the rice but definitely not essential

    Hello, a stereotypical rice eater here. My question is:
    When you are using your finger to measure how much water to use, how do you know if you haven't moved your finger when you're adding the water???
    I've tried so many time by now and I have found I have always moved my finger on accident when I add the water to my bowl with rice in it.
    Many thanks.

      We have not had an issue.. I guess it's just a teething issue that you will just have to keep trying. We have used this method for years and works perfectly every time.
