Ahh, so glad you reacted to her. She has always been singing, but when she was 20 years old and newly married she got cancer in her stomach and had to go through several operations. Because of this, she can no longer have children. But being member of the church she got people praying for her, and she survived the cancer.
Because of this she sees her life a gift from God, and she wanted to dedicate her life and singing to him. She said she wants her singing to comfort people who are in pain, telling them “I see you- I’ve been there”. She has since then almost exclusively been singing at churches at home and abroad, at charity events, or events to honor other artist - meaningful events, and avoided taking part in the big music industry. She has been contacted many times by international managers who could help her getting famous here in the West (she is famous in Asia, despite her limited performances), but she has always refused.
Now she is about 40 years old (she looks so much younger!) and the last few years she has been participating in South Korean music contests on TV. When she first started singing on these TV shows she was very conflicted if this was the right thing to do. But then she saw a woman in the audience crying while she was singing, and she realised that her calling was to reach out to everyone who is hurting, not just people in church. ❤️
I would love to see you react to her other performances, So Hyang always delivers a lot of emotions in each performance like Arirang (a traditonal Korean folk song known to unites South Korea & North Korea), Everyone, Where Are You, also Raise Me Up (in this performance, So Hyang had pneumonia, because of what she has been through her emunity is pretty weak so she's often sick, the doctor told her in this day that she shouldn't even talk but she still went and delivered an amazing performance with Raise Me Up)
Her background as a Gospel singer shines through...she is a master Arranger and Novelist as well...special lady.

Good reaction. I want to introduce you to a Korean singer. She is such an amazing singer and you won't stop being blown away by her every performance! She originally started out as a Gospel Singer in her church and worked her way up from there. But the reason why she is not mainstream and everywhere is since her reasoning for singing is not for fame or money but to sing for God. Michael Jackson's vocal coach once offered to make her a big star worldwide but she declined politely. She is so humble and strong since she had cervical cancer when she was in her young adult life. Please react to her songs, this is just the tip of her amazing singing! But this should get you started. Hope you enjoy! ^_^

Great reaction,very informative. You should watch her performance of 'Arirang Alone' a song which is traditional S.Korean. many people have tried to sign her to a recording contract but she shuns the limelight.she wants to use her voice to help those who are suffering,as you said in your video. This is probably because she herself is a survivor of Cervical cancer in her early 20's which left her unable to have children of her own.she is such a beautiful person inside & out. You can choose any performance by So Hyang & you will never be disappointed but you should watch her performance of 'Everyone' which I have seen many times & it still makes me cry even though I dont understand the lyrics.I think this a great quality in a singer if they can touch your soul even though you dont understand the language. You should also check out her performance of Whitney Houstons 'I Have Nothing' at the DCM festival where,in my opinion,she gives the great Witney Houston serious competition as to who's version is the better.

Actually, when I saw her in person at her concert, she looked a lot younger and I was fascinated by her glassy eyes. :) I recommend the new version of 'You raise me up' performed in '18. It's my fave and you won't be disappointed, I bet.

There are parts of the performance (no spoilers 😉 ) that are more impactful with lyrics. The video of this performance in RUclips is incomplete because of the lack of lyrics. This _"Everyone"_ performance is not simply a vocal masterpiece, as it sums up who Sohyang is as a person, not just who she is as an artist. If some has been been reading Sohyang's backstory, everything will click and make sense once you've experienced this performance. It certainly was an experience for me.
Every artist also has a song that define their career. For Sohyang, that performance is:

Are these two linked performances above my top 2 favorites of Sohyang's? Well, no. Because at #2 is a performance where I fell in love with her because her superb emotive capability, while still with excellent techniques in the meanwhile, of course. Here is it:

first of all great reaction. she has so many amazing performances,my favorite is my love from king of the mask singers but everything she sings is amazing
Ooh, the same as me. The song (My Love or Dear Love) is about a woman who pines for her husband who left her for another woman. Despite his infidelity, she still loves him deeply and the song is about her anguish and longing. You can hear the pains and the cries clearly within the song if you hear with your heart. Waves after waves of hurt and wailing is incessant until tears welled up in your eyes. To me, it is a masterpiece as I cry everytime I listen to it. It is even more impactful if there is Eng sub.
While spontaneous reactions are fun as well but I feel that knowing a little about the Artist's background does give a clearer picture and helps in appreciating their work better esp. when doing an analysis

Once you hear Park Ki Young , you will know what angelic is. Here are a few to consider ( privately or publicly)that will silence your mind and open the floodgates of your heart and soul.

“ Spring Rain” ( those last high notes amazing)
“A Song For you” ( last note one of the longest by a female vocalist I have ever heard)
After listening to these I am certain beyond a shadow of a doubt you will be a lifelong fan.

Zashiki, Hi, She has Whitney's deep power from the Chest voices, which Mariah Carey lacks. So I did say that. I live in the U.S., work as a doctor and have been in music. Since I was very young, with my parents, I have been to several concerts by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. And I knew about Sohyang in less than six months. At first I was very shocked and surprised that there was a really amazing and fantastic singer in the world. I thought there would be no singers in the world who would compare or surpass Maria Carey and Whitney Houston. But after I saw her, I found out that I was not well. Sohyang is the only singer in the world that combines Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. Good lunch time !

For some reason, I think you would appreciate Myles Kennedy, who is a rock singer, with a 5 octave range, which you know is extremely good for a guy. The song I think you might enjoy, is called Blackbird, from the band called Alter Bridge.
